Atlus Announces Persona 3 Portable

Atlus and Persona series fans had heard about the infamous Persona 3 Portable months ago, but that was sadly for the Japanese version. While SMT fanatics played through Persona PSP, we waited (as patiently as we could) for today: the official announcement that Persona 3 Portable or P3P, will arrive in North America in July (both on UMD and via PSN).

Although this new release gives those of us (like myself) who missed out on the original or its upgraded version (Persona 3 FES), those who have already experienced the game still have plenty to come back to in this new PSP release.

Among the improvements are the addition of 5 difficulty modes, ranging from “beginner” (perfect for those new to the game or the series) to “maniac” (for the most die-hard SMT fans). Also added are skill cards and part-time jobs, as well as the new ability to directly control your party members in battle. Perhaps one of the biggest draws of this new version (other than the portable part), is the fact that you can experience the whole game from a new, female protagonist’s perspective. As a female gamer, this was definitely an addition I enjoyed, as I personally found it disappointing that you couldn’t play as a girl in other Persona games. However, this doesn’t just mean a change in your avatar: playing as a girl will have a drastic change on the gameplay, as the entire social dynamics are altered due to your character’s sex.

Although it may seem like a long wait until July, here’s a video and some screens to help you pass the time. I don’t know about you, but I’m super psyched! Now all we have to do is wait for Persona 2 PSP. . . .

It’s a good thing I already finished this so I won’t be compelled to buy this again because it’s new and shiny and revamped…and, oh wait. NO. THIS GAME TOOK OVER 100 HOURS OF MY LIFE. IT GETS NO MORE.

    But it probably will. <3

I hate myself because I’ll probably buy this. Any mention of it coming with FES intact? I’d assume so, but haven’t seen any info. Maybe I’ll be able to resist. I haven’t even done the FES on my original game yet after all…

No, they haven’t said yet about FES, although I’d assume that’d be included. I haven’t played the game yet at all, so this is a “must buy” for me… even though I still haven’t finished P4…

Was there ever any doubt about this? Still, it’s awesome to hear the confirmation. That means the time for waiting is less! However, it’s still a long ways out… Maybe I’ll finally beat P4 in the meantime.

You bring up an exciting point. They brought P1 to the PSP so they theoretically could do the same for P2. I think that’d be fabulous and if Atlus did it should include both Eternal Punishment and Innocent Sin.

I’m guessing they’ll include the FES additions. The addition to control your characters fully like in P4 seems useful, since they make some dumb decisions in P3 sometimes… But I’m not sure the new additions are enough to buy it again. Imagine spending another XYZ to the billionth degree amount of hours of your life AGAIN on it?! I’ll still be playing catch up on this skeery Q1 landslide! Though, if you wanna talk Persona 5… I’m all ears!
