BlurThe Blur multiplayer beta is set to kick off next week but Activision doesn’t want you to forget about it so they released a gameplay trailer to keep the hype going. I’m not sure what will be included in the beta but Blur will be the first racing game to allow up to 20 players online at the same time with objective-based racing events. There’s no word on how many of the 50 licensed cars we’ll see in the beta but the trailer gives you a good idea of how intense the action is going to be. Check out the new trailer below!

With only one more day to go, the follow up to last year’s best baseball title, MLB 10 The Show looks to once again provide gamers with the most realistic baseball game in the market. For those who haven’t been closely following the upcoming title or if you just missed something, we created a one stop shop for everything you need to know about The Show. What you’ll find in this preview are some highlights of key features and additions to MLB 10 The Show and all the videos released, and yes that includes the “Dear Playstation” commercial that we all love.

If you haven’t seen it already or even if you have, the commercial for MLB 10 The Show is hilarious. Check it out.

The realism that Kevin Butler is talking about in The Show comes from all the little subtleties in the game.  Last year I was blown away by how accurately they were able to capture certain player’s rituals or mannerisms at the plate or on the mound.  This year’s version will include all of that and will also bring a more realistic environment. MLB 10 will have real-time players in the dugouts and bullpens, fireworks, rally towels/tundersticks, working clocks and home run counters like the one seen in San Francisco. Of course you can’t bring a game to life without fans and this year crowd detail has also been improved. They will be much more active this year, reaching over the wall for foul balls, scrambling for home run balls and making more noise in pressure situations. This might seem like very small additions but brought together it helps bring the real game to into the virtual one.  Here’s the trailer showing off some of these features.

Road to The Show (RTTS) is one of the best modes of the MLB The Show franchise. It has been the leading sports title in creating a realistic and engaging “create a player” mode. This year in RTTS you’ll have much more control over what your player looks like and his accessories. Once you create your player you’ll be sent right to the Double-A season. While last year’s version had you start in spring training, starting in Double-A will give you a more realistic approach to working your way to the majors as most players don’t receive an invite to spring training until after their first year. Before you get into a game you now have the option to participate in pre-game batting practice or when you get called from the bullpen you’ll get some time to throw practice pitches. Just like batting practice and your time warming up on the mound, it doesn’t help you gain experience, but it will help you get ready for the game or at-bat. Once you are in a game you have full control of what you want to experience. You can play out every pitch/play in the game, only the last pitch in the at-bat, or just plays that involve you. Whether you are on the field or in the batters box there is a bigger emphasize on fundamental baseball. Throwing to the wrong bag, stealing when you shouldn’t be or failing to cover a base will put you in a bad spot with the manager. Lastly a huge emphasis went into gaining skill points and the flow of the game. New training modes have been added for both hitters and pitchers, and goals throughout the game will be shown in way as to not break from the pace of the game. You can also hit the D-pad to show the goals of the game in case you missed it, which is really nice.

To go along with RTTS you now have the full control as the catcher in the new Catcher Calling the Game mode. You’ll be calling for pitches and locations which includes 9 zones inside the strike zone or 8 zones outside. Just like in real life it is your responsibility to know the batters and your pitchers strengths and weaknesses. The pitcher might shake you off so you can pick another pitch but sometimes the catcher knows best and he’ll throw that pitch if you keep asking for it. You’ll have to also watch out for wild pitches and base runners, which adds to the difficulty of being a catcher. It’s a really cool mode and I’m excited to get a chance to call a game but then again, playing every game as a catcher might take it’s toll.

Making it’s return to the series is the Home Run Derby. Fans have been asking for this to be added to the game for some time now and we finally have it. You won’t only get the Home Run Derby, you’ll be getting the entire All-Star experience. During your franchise or RTTS season you’ll get a chance to play in the All-Star Futures Game along with the Derby and the regular All-Star game. Check out this trailer that showcases the new All-Star experience.

MLB 09 The Show suffered from very poor online play, mainly due to lag. Sony has been saying they have worked very hard on fixing that issue for MLB 10 and if they can then I think fans will enjoy the improvements to the Online Leagues. In addition to added customization when creating the league, people can now drop in and out of leagues during the season. If someone can’t handle the season and needs to back out, the commissioner can find a replacement to take over that team. Fatigue is also another factor managers will have to deal with as you will no longer be able to use your ace for every game. Here are some of the key features of the new online leagues:

·    Additional Commissioner Slot (6 total leagues now)
·    NEW Auto-resolve feature. Set to On/Off when creating a league and helps keep leagues progressing
·    Ability to Drop and Replace players within an In-progress league
·    Apply a Custom Slider to a league
·    League Invitation system upgrade
·    New My Complete Leagues list, showing a summary of all completed leagues, the winner and playoff participants
·    New League Round-up and League History tabs in Gamer Card
·    More emails and communication on league changes
·    Players Needing Leagues upgrade. Commissioner can now send invites directly from that screen
·    Additional information about users for a commissioner resolving a game
·    Quit a league at any time (commissioner or league member). No more being held hostage

Finally Real Time Presentation Mode is one of the brand new features to this year’s game. The new presentation mode should give gamers a further sense of realism by attempting to capture the camera angles and shots seen while watching a game on TV. Instead of going in-depth on how this new system works here is a short video displaying the Real Time Presentation.

There is a lot of detail put into every offering of The Show and I don’t expect MLB 10 to be any different. If you want to learn more about the game you can read the full preview here. I am extremely excited about the upcoming title and I hope that all of these new features can come together to bring us the realism that we have come to know and love from this franchise.

AGAINDSRPIf you enjoyed Hotel Dusk, then you have two reasons to be happy. One, because CING, the developer behind that great game, has a new mystery title releasing in only a few weeks: Again comes to DS on March 30, 2010. Second, because a new mystery starring detective Kyle Hyde from Hotel Dusk has been announced, although details are sketchy (no pun intended).

Still, Again, although it has a far more realistic look than its cousin, with real actors “scanned in” and using full-motion video segments, promises to be intriguing. You play as FBI investigator Jonathan Weaver, who has the ability to view a crime scene both in the present state and at a time in the past. Holding the DS like a book, you will have access to both versions of the crime scene, and thus must carefully study each to help gleam clues in order to solve the crime.

Check out this new story and gameplay video for more insight into this chilling mystery.

Sonic-the-Hedgehog-4The eyes of the internet, or at least those of us who grew up playing countless hours of Sonic games on our little black boxes, were on the video included below.  Supposedly, this video shows leaked gameplay footage of Sega’s upcoming Sonic game, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, which was recently announced.

Even if this video turns out to be a fake, I’m still super pumped about the upcoming game.  My only hope is the price isn’t too steep.  For now, enjoy the video.

ssfiv-juriMy love for foxy boxing runs deep, and it doesn’t get any foxier than a three-way tag-team match with Chun-Li, Juri, and Cammy, all of Super Street Figher IV fame.  I’m slightly disappointed that my favorite corporate vixen isn’t there slamming the ground and throwing flaming kicks, but I suppose Viper isn’t as popular with others as she is with me.  That, and three’s company, four’s a crowd.  This trailer is badass, though, and really displays the artistry of the Capcom team working on the Street Fighter stuff.  I’m continually impressed.  And below the trailer you’ll find a special valentine going out to all the female readers of Spawn Kill from your very own beloved Spawn Kill bachelor, Snarkasaur.  Happy V-day ladies.  Call me.  <3

MLB 10 The Show Debut Trailer

Posted by Eric "TheHerp" Galaviz on February 12th, 2010

mlb10For those who missed out on last night’s GameTrailers TV, here’s the MLB 10 The Show Debut Trailer. Nothing really special but it does show some in-game footage that we haven’t seen much of so far. It definitely gets you pumped and ready for the upcoming release in 3 weeks but I would have liked to see more actual gameplay. Enjoy the trailer courtesy of GameTrailers and remember to check back with us as we’ll have a little preview of the online leagues and the Real Time Presentation that is new to this year’s title.

zenoclash_ACETeamIf you’re looking forward to the Ultimate Edition of Zeno Clash for XBLA, then you’ll enjoy this video, which shows off the new attacks found in this updated version.

“Initially, ACE Team had offered to demonstrate the new moves in Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition in person for the Atlus staff,” chuckled a grimacing Aram Jabbari, Manager of Public Relations and Sales for Atlus.  “We all thought they were kidding when they talked about cool-sounding moves like the ‘headbutt’ and ’spin kick.’  After a week in the hospital, I’m happy to say that fans can expect to find those and equally punishing new attacks in Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition, and that the moves deliver the same satisfyingly visceral feel as all the other injury-inducing first-person melee combat Zeno Clash has to offer.  In other good news, the doctor says the swelling on my head will go away in about a month or so.”

For more info on the game, which is set to release March 30, 2010, exclusively for XBox Live Arcade, check out http://www.zenoclash.com, or scroll down for an ACE Team roundtable interview, discussing frequently asked questions about the upcoming title.

dpIf the delayed release of Dementium II has you down, don’t worry, horror fans, because you might want to keep an eye on the soon-to-be released title Deadly Premonition.

The story behind the Red Seed Murders in the game Deadly Premonition begins to unravel further in the rural town of Greenvale, with the introduction of the inquisitive Ingram Twins in this week’s character trailer. The survival horror title and Xbox 360 exclusive arrives February 23, 2010.

LastRebellion_LOGOThe Last Rebellion is an RPG from NIS America that isn’t getting a whole lot of press.  We can blame Mass Effect 2 or Final Fantasy 13 for this certainly, or we can even blame a waning interest in JRPGs in general.  What we probably shouldn’t ignore is that another RPG with some major potential is heading to the PS3, and given the strong output of Nippon Ichi over the years, I for one am taking heed.  Sure, they haven’t been pure gold (A Witch’s Tale, though decent, needed work), but they’ve been solid.

The Last Rebellion follows protagonists Nine and Aisha.  Nine is a Blade, who can kill things physically, and Aisha is a Sealer, who can kill things spiritually (like most women!).  In short, they’re summoned to a kingdom in need to sort out some monster issues, there’s some gods and goddesses, typical JRPG stuff.  There’s more to it, but that’s just the gist.  World exploration is free range and combat is turn-based, but also involved in that players don’t just choose an action and end their turn.  Rather, certain body parts can be targeted, Aisha and Nine can be used alternatively or exclusively, etc.  The game looks beautiful, as the trailer and screens can testify below, and bears a lovely resemblance to Tales of Vesperia and even the Wii and Gamecube versions of Fire Emblem.

The game, in a shocking turnaround, will release in the states a mere month after it’s Japanese introduction, possibly even less, with a vague hint at February.  With a January 28th release in Japan, that’s quick localization!  Hopefully not too quick.  Though some of the passion for JRPGs might be leaving western shores, I know myself and a few others are glancing with hopeful eyes towards this February horizon.

traumateam_screens_devfeaturette2_conceptartThe folks at Atlus don’t like to disappoint, so they’ve provided us with more screens and a video that gives you a sense of the flow of the game.  Check those all out below.  A word of warning, though: the video is all in Japanese (with no subtitles)!  For more details on the behind-the-scenes of Trauma Team, check out the full developer’s featurette here.

Transformers War for Cybertron_Logo_v2_LtBkgI know what you’re probably thinking: Dear, God!  Not another Transformers game! But still your heart: unlike the other recently released Transformers titles, this one is not based on a movie, and the developer, High Moon Studios, is doing what they can to do the fans the service they’ve been waiting for.  The goal is to be like Batman: Arkham Aslyum was in 2009, only doing for the Transformers franchise what that game did for Batman (and all comic book games, by extension).  We’ll have to wait until June 22 to find out for sure, but for now, check out the new trailer to whet your appetite.

finalfightCapcom hit the airwaves this morning with a few announcements concerning two of their upcoming releases, Final Fight:  Double Impact and Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.  First up is a contest concerning throwback PSN and XBLA title Final Fight and coloring!  Not really kidding about that.  The contest basically asks fans to color the box art (pictured left, click to enlarge).  Yes, it sounds odd (particularly as the game is a digital download), but who I am to criticize a contest?  They’re giving away a copy of the game, as well as an all-expenses paid trip to New Orleans to party with the Capcom crew at their “Captivate” event.  That alone sounds cool enough to warrant entry into the contest, but the winner also gets a poster of their colored art and some more undetermined swag.

final_fantasy_xiii_logoI’ve been lukewarm about the imminent release of Final Fantasy XII, until today. I think I’m a sucker for trailers, and I know I’m a sucker for anything Final Fantasy, but even so, this one tugs at the heartstrings. It brings the Leona Lewis song together with some fantastic voice work and even lips that move in English (something I honestly did not expect as I’m so used to the dubbing generally used in North American releases of Japanese games).

It also looks better than any RPG I’ve ever seen.  Even if it’s purely cut scenes, there’s no question that this sets a bar for animation work for future epics.  Anyway, no more talking.  Enjoy.
