The Tokyo Game Show is returning on September 16, and we can hope for some major announcements to be made at the event, or at least some awesome gameplay to be shown. Konami, Level-5, Sega, and Tecmo-Koei have announced their lineups for the show, although it isn’t known which are playable and which will be presented in video form. Some notable familiars are Metal Gear Solid: Rising from Konami and Sonic Colors from Sega, but you can check after the break for the full list.

To be honest, I’d almost begun to think North America wasn’t going to see a DSi price drop.  While other countries saw the price fall, ours had remained steady throughout the summer, with no indication that Nintendo would lower either the DSi or DSi XL MSRPs any time soon. However, today Nintendo made it official: the DSi will now retail for $149.99, and the DSi XL for $169.99: a $20 drop.

It’s Monday yet again, and hard to believe that summer is almost over.  For those of you who may have started class already today, take some consolation in the fact that And Yet It Moves has finally arrived on WiiWare.  And, even better, for those moms (or dads) out there who have finally gotten rid of–that is to say–shuffled your children off onto those shiny yellow school buses, you can kick back and (finally) relax with either that game or even (gasp) a Virtual Console title, not to mention four other DSiWare releases for this week.  Hit the break for all the games released today.

Oh, Dragon Quest, how they love you.  In Japan, anyway.  With the recent release of Dragon Quest IX for DS, however, Nintendo hopes to change that.  Through a careful combination of old and new, Nintendo, Square Enix, and Level-5 hope to make the West crazy for (or at least more familiar with) the iconic, “smiling slime” RPG.  Still, as gamers, we all know that while avoiding innovation can make a franchise feel stale, changing things up too much can ruin the core experience (just ask Sonic).  So has this group of developers and publishers succeeded in crafting something that can be successful outside of Japan?  An experience not just for the die-hard few, but something perfectly palatable for a wide-range of Western gamers?

You know, Monday is one of those things that takes a hold of you sometimes, so I apologize upright for not posting the weekly “Nintendo Monday” updates yesterday.  However, to help make up for my tardiness, I have a few juicy tidbits to help make things a little sweeter.  In addition to new downloadable titles released yesterday, today Nintendo announced official release dates for three of their hotly anticipated fall and winter titles.

Again, Virtual Console languishes, as we have two new releases for WiiWare and four for DSiWare this week.  Hit the break to read more about these games and learn the new release dates for Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and more.

Following last year’s innovative puzzler, Super Scribblenauts is a sequel with adjectives in the mix and a greatly improved control scheme that should fix the major problems in last year’s Scribblenauts. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a new trailer for Gamescom ‘10, and it highlights some of the new features. Too bad some of the more interesting adjectives will probably not be in the game… you know, to be safe for the children. Anyway, check out the trailer after the jump to find out you can do “fire breathing alien” and “powerful cheetah” instead of just “alien” or “cheetah.”

Electronic Arts recently announced the global athlete to grace the cover of FIFA 11 and today they released the NA cover that features Team USA’s Landon Donovan and Carlos Vela of Arsenal F.C and Mexico’s international team. Personally I would have loved to have seen Javier Hernandez, the up-and-coming star athlete from Mexico. It’s great to see Donovan on the cover especially after such a great World Cup performance. I think it’s smart that EA wanted to capitalize off of his famous goal scored in extra time that sent Team USA to the knockout round; I think it can be great for Americans who might have already forgotten about soccer. Check out the NA cover in all its glory.

Ah, Monday, Monday, so good to me.  It means it’s time for some fun new updates to Nintendo’s downloadable marketplaces.  Looks like the VC is once again left alone in the corner of the dance floor, as this week’s updates are for WiiWare and DSiWare only.  Today, you’ll find six new games to tickle your fancy, including more aquarium fun on WiiWare and some more puzzling adventures on your DSis.

We’ve all been burned before in the past by Sonic the Hedghehog, and so many of you may be reluctant to try out Sonic Colors in November.  The new gameplay trailer however shows a different side of Sonic that we haven’t seen since the days of the Sega Genesis.  2D meets 3D in Sonic Colors, where the game seems to be making a beeline towards its roots at lightning speed.  Even if the game play trailer isn’t enough to make you at least want to try the game, the pre-order bonus may offer the right amount of incentive.

Those of you with an iPhone may be familiar with the quirky title known as Angry Birds (and mentioned briefly in our last podcast), in which you play as some pissed off pigeons trying to save their eggs from a bunch of pigs.  The highly successful title will be coming to PS3, PSP, and DS soon, according to Chillingo Co-Founder John Wee, although details were scarce at this time.  My guess would see this as a possible “minis” title on PSN and DSiware on DS, most likely for more than the current $0.99 App Store price tag.  However, it’s possible that the console versions will have more levels or other bonus features to entice gamers to purchase the game (perhaps some for the second time).

That’s right, kids, it’s Monday yet again, which, although usually not a good thing, can be seen as great if you are a Nintendo fan, because it means it’s time once again for another update to WiiWare, VC, and DSiWare.  This week we have six new titles (none for virtual console, unfortunately), with the headliner being BlayzBloo for DSiWare, the kawaii version of the fighter BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, previously only available on non-Nintendo systems.  Hit the break for details on all that’s new to download this week. The Kill Kast is back again and this time they are talking portable gaming. Stephanie, Rebecca and Eric get together to talk about what they’ve been playing which includes Persona 3, Limbo, Borderlands and Hulu Plus on the PS3. As always we chat about some recent news and we go into our topic of the podcast which is portable gaming; what we like about it, what we hate about it, why we play portable games or why we don’t, and what we hope to see in future. More importantly we talk about our upcoming Halo: Reach contest which no one will want to miss out on. So check it out, find out what our big contest is and enjoy the podcast. Thanks for listening!

So we don’t live in Japan where everyone plays Dragon Quest, population density is huge, and public transportation is extremely common.  Nor do we live in the land where having a bar where you can gather to play and exchange game items is not only normal, it’s expected.  As a result, many North American players have expected to miss out on the features of tag mode that helped make the game such a success in the land of the rising sun.  Nintendo seems to have realized this, and so has organized a series of Dragon Quest IX events at local retailers and malls to spread the word about the game and give US players the chance to get some new treasure maps.
