The Kill Kast is back again and we hope to start a new streak of consecutive podcasts. In Episode 14 Stephanie, Eric and Rebecca get together to talk about what they’ve been playing which includes Dragon Quest IX, StarCraft 2 and Mafia II. We go through some recent news such as Mass Effect hitting the PS3, the Windows Phone 7 and the Sony PSP phone. For our topic(s) this week we discuss last week’s Community Voice and what you all said along with our recent Staff Picks and why we love those soundtracks. We also talk about Dragon Age a whole lot, mainly why Origins is so awesome and why Dragon Age 2 has us worried. It happens. I think it’s high time we just start a separate Dragon Age podcast…

Spawn Kill was able to sit in on a Mafia II developer conference call today with Jack Scalici, Director of Creative Production. He was responsible for creating the authentic setting in Mafia II; making sure the environment fits the era along with finding the the 122 tracks that are included in the game. In the call Jack talks about the struggles of creating a new engine, how hard it was to narrow down which songs will be included in the game (from the thousands he listened to), what went into creating the authentic 50’s mafia world and what the future of the franchise is, which could include the Russian or Japanese mob. We conveniently recorded the call for you so you can listen to it here or head over to iTunes and download it there. Enjoy!

In this episode we talk about recent news, what we’ve been playing (Critter Crunch!), we laugh about a study that says kids who play games can turn into drug addicts later in life, and we discuss our topic of the podcast which is the recent copyright ruling that essentially said  jailbreaking an iPhone to create homebrew apps is legal and what that means for  gaming.

Don’t forget you can subscribe to us on iTunes and also remember to enter our Halo: Reach Special Edition Xbox 360 bundle giveaway! Thanks for listening.

The Spawn Kill sports team is back for yet another episode of The Away Team. As always Gabe (Lethalwraith) and I (Eric) will be discussing the games we’ve been playing which includes Halo Reach, ModNation Racers for the PSP, God of War 3 and some Lucha Libre. We then tell you everything we know about Madden 11 and prepare the New Orleans fans for a rough year. Finally for our main topic we discuss sports games that don’t have an official license. With the upcoming game Backbreaker and the ever growing Quick Hit Football browser game companies seem to be willing to make sports games without the official license. We talk about whether some of these games can compete with a fully licensed product like a Pro Evolution Soccer can and what, if any, is a benefit of not having a license. Check it out to see what we think and let us know what you think in the comments.

Today we got a chance to take part in a Split/Second developer interview with Game Director Nick Baynes from Black Rock Studio. For those who don’t know, Split/Second is a brand new racing game in which players race through a destructible environment taking out their opponents using the explosives around the track. Coming from the creators of the critically acclaimed Pure title, Split/Second offers gamers a Hollywood style and intensity never before seen in a racer.  Like always we recorded the call for your listening pleasure and also included a little run down of what Eric and Dave think of the game so far. If you want to learn more about Split/Second you can check out our previous coverage here. For you iTunes users you can download the interview here otherwise, jump down to the bottom of the post to stream or download. Enjoy!

I know it’s been a criminal amount of time since we have posted up an episode of the Kill Kast, but we are here to make amends and get back in the groove. Our latest Kill Kast is hosted by Stephanie (Tigresa) as she is joined by Eric (The Herp), Dave (Dave) and for the very first time Rebecca (Cuatro Chihuahuas), who has only been here pretty much since the inception of Spawn Kill…! This time we talk a little about what we were playing — the criminality of glitches in Dragon Age Awakening, and other masochistic things we’ve been up to gaming-wise, with the main entree being the topic of Metacritic — As the title says, is it good, bad, or a necessary evil? Listen in and let us know how you feel in the comments! Thanks for listening.

We recently got a chance to sit in on a group conference call to discuss the upcoming football title Backbreaker. During the call producer Rob Donald talked a little about how a UK developer went about creating a game based on an American sport and what going up against a franchise like Madden entails. For those who don’t know what Backbreaker is, it’s a football game from the creators of the Euphoria engine. This engine created by NaturalMotion attempts to simulate true-to-life AI and their reactions with their environment. This engine was put to use in games like GTA4, Star Wars The Force Unleashed and the upcoming Red Dead Redemption game. In terms of a football game the Euphoria engine, it will present gamers with the most realistic tackles and contact never before seen in any sports game.

AwayTeam02In Episode 02 of The Away Team, Eric (The Herp) and Gabe (Lethalwraith) talk about what we’ve been playing which includes Bad Company 2 and Tiger Woods Online. We will also be previewing MLB 2K10 and the first round of the closed beta for FIFA Online.  As always we’ll chat about recent news in the sports gaming world and share some of our opinions on in-game ad support in sports games. This is a very interesting topic which we hope to get Stephanie (Tigresa) involved in for a future podcast so we didn’t spend too much time on it. For those of you who are also playing Tiger Woods Online, we have a group created called Spawnkill The Away Team Cast if you are interested in joining.

Of course you can follow The Away Team on Twitter and for you iTunes users you can download and subscribe to the podcast here.  Enjoy the podcast!

KillKast-sm7In episode 7 of the Kill Kast, Stephanie (Tigresa), Eric (The Herp), and Dave (Snarkasaur) as always talk a bit about what we’ve been playing before we get into this episode’s main topic: The Ethics of Reviews. We discuss what type of things in reviews are, obviously, ethical in each of our opinions, i.e. how long you should play a game before reviewing it, who is qualified to review what game, the most worthwhile/helpful type of reviews, etc. But, no matter how much we banter like hot 20-something grumpy grandmas about what is the “right” way of doing things, as Dave says in the end, the essence is somewhat moot, because it’s still all subjective.

For this podcast we could really use your opinions on the topics we discuss regarding reviews! We’d love to hear it to make our reviews the best they can be for our readers and listeners at Spawn Kill. We take a lot of pride in our reviews, and it’d be awesome to know what you all think, if you like “Second Opinion” type reviews, and more. I hope you enjoy this week’s episode of the Kill Kast here at Spawn Kill.

Feel free to follow the entire Kill Kast (both present and not present this week, including our very helpful podcast editor K-Tuck) on Twitter as well as download and subscribble to the podcast here. We should be up on the Zune marketplace as well soon.
