Sony announced today via the PlayStation Blog that Metal Gear Solid fans here in the U.S can look forward to a Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP bundle. The pack will include a “Spirited Green” PSP-3000 system, the game on UMD, a voucher for in-game content, a PSN downloadable movie voucher and a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo. The highly anticipated Metal Gear PSP title picks up where MGS 3 left off and “marks the return of Hideo Kojima’s world-renowned stealth-action series.” Not sure why Sony wouldn’t be trying to push the PSPgo especially with a big title like this but maybe it’s because you can get all of this stuff for $50 less than a PSPgo. The entertainment pack will sell for $199.99 and will coincide the release date of the standalone game on June 8.

Sonic-the-Hedgehog-4The eyes of the internet, or at least those of us who grew up playing countless hours of Sonic games on our little black boxes, were on the video included below.  Supposedly, this video shows leaked gameplay footage of Sega’s upcoming Sonic game, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, which was recently announced.

Even if this video turns out to be a fake, I’m still super pumped about the upcoming game.  My only hope is the price isn’t too steep.  For now, enjoy the video.

p3p_logoAtlus and Persona series fans had heard about the infamous Persona 3 Portable months ago, but that was sadly for the Japanese version.  While SMT fanatics played through Persona PSP, we waited (as patiently as we could) for today: the official announcement that Persona 3 Portable or P3P, will arrive in North America in July (both on UMD and via PSN).

finalfightCapcom hit the airwaves this morning with a few announcements concerning two of their upcoming releases, Final Fight:  Double Impact and Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.  First up is a contest concerning throwback PSN and XBLA title Final Fight and coloring!  Not really kidding about that.  The contest basically asks fans to color the box art (pictured left, click to enlarge).  Yes, it sounds odd (particularly as the game is a digital download), but who I am to criticize a contest?  They’re giving away a copy of the game, as well as an all-expenses paid trip to New Orleans to party with the Capcom crew at their “Captivate” event.  That alone sounds cool enough to warrant entry into the contest, but the winner also gets a poster of their colored art and some more undetermined swag.

Review: Madden NFL Arcade

Posted by Eric "TheHerp" Galaviz on December 5th, 2009

arcadeBWThe NFL Arcade genre has pretty much been dead for a while now. Just a couple of years ago we had some really great titles in Blitz and NFL Street, but the NFL wanted to clean up their image thanks to the Bengals and Adam “Pac Man” Jones. Even the famous Blitz games went away from their standard Arcade style in favor of a more “realistic” game. EA Tiburon had a nice run with NFL Street each title receiving critical acclaim but then they stopped making them because the game was too gritty for the NFL. In 2008 they put out a much tamer title in NFL Tour but the game was terrible to put it lightly. After almost two years EA Tiburon is once again trying their hand at an arcade title, this time with the downloadable title Madden NFL Arcade. Although it is very apparent that they are trying their hardest to get back to what made NFL Street so good, the game lacks depth and customization even for a downloadable game. The title can only be enjoyed in small intervals and for that price tag I feel like I should be getting more.

peggle-deluxe-screenshot-2The casual gamer inside me is rejoicing right now! Peggle has been a long time casual favorite of mine, and I’m happy to see it come to PSN this week.

The addictive game by PopCap Games is planned for release on PSN Thursday of this week. What’s the perk to having Peggle on PSN as opposed to the PC, DS, and XBLA versions? Players will be able to send video replays to their YouTube account right from game. You don’t even have to leave the game to upload the video.

The price of Peggle is going to be $9.99, while the Peggle Nights expansion is going to be $4.99.

Madden NFL Arcade is a brand new way to experience the Madden NFL franchise. Brought to us by the same Madden NFL team from EA Tiburon, the 5-on-5 football game features a new arcade style game with easy pick up and plays controls. The game also featuers a unique art style and gameplay that reminds me a lot of the popular NFL Street titles.  Not much has been released about the game but EA Sports recently announced that the download only game will be available on Xbox Live Arcade on November 24th and November 25th on the PlayStation Store for $14.99. Along with announcing the release date, they also released the complete listing of each teams ten-man roster. Click here to download the excel file to see check out the roster and on the second page of the file you will find the players available through the “Entourage” Game Changer during gameplay.

A game that once was a Xbox 360 exclusive arcade title and quickly became one of the highest rated, best-selling games on XBLA is finally making it’s way over to the PlayStation 3. Sony officially announced that Braid will be making its debt on the PlayStation Network on November 12 for $14.99. This platformer/puzzler blew critics and fans away with it’s unique gameplay, receiving a Metacritc score of 93 and becoming the second-best-selling title on XBLA for 2008. It’s been over a year but I’m sure PlayStation fans can’t wait to play this game. Check out the new trailer released today.

As soon as Madden NFL 10 was released in August, EA was quick to announce they were working on an arcade version of the storied franchise. The title was said to be similar to the 3vs3 NHL game that was released on XBLA and the PlayStation store. Today EA officially announced the new game titled Madden NFL Arcade. The arcade title will be a 5-on-5 football game that features a unique art style and much faster paced gameplay. Just like the NHL title, the game will be available as a downloadable title on the 360 and PS3, and will cost 1200 Microsoft points or $14.99. The game is being made by EA Tiburon, the same company that makes all the Madden titles, and is set for a December release date.

trine-logo1What are all the things we would really like to see but feared we never would, Alex?

You are correct, Snarkasaur!

But wait, skeptics, it appears as though one of our hopeless wishes has come true because Trine is finally going to hit the PlayStation Network.  And folks, the timing couldn’t be worse if they’d decided to release it the day after a nationwide blackout.

A question to Spawn Kill readers:  If you were a publisher of independent games and had been sitting on a well-reviewed title but were waiting to release it because of concerns otherwise best left unmentioned, would you then choose to release said game on its potentially strongest platform a mere week after Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend have their epic opening day face off?  In case it weren’t obvious, you would not.  This week would have been a fine choice!  Next week even could have seen a better sales rake-in.  October 22nd… not a good plan.
