It’s odd how something that I hadn’t even heard of until about two months ago could suddenly become such a big part of my life, but in a short time I have become a completely devoted Scott Pilgrim fan.  I loved the movie, devoured the graphic novels, can’t get the movie’s soundtrack out of my head, and after finishing the game, am completely smitten by it as well.  The tale of Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers has left an indelible tattoo on my non-Canadian brain, and while the game itself may not have quite the storytelling flare as its other renditions, it’s probably the best possible way that such a story could have been translated into a video game.  It takes all the tributes to gaming that the books and movie relate and condenses them into it’s own tribute, and it gets even more fun the more I play it.

It’s been a long, bumpy ride, but Sam and Max have finally reached the end of their latest journey.  We’ve battled evil space apes, petulant pharaohs, elder gods and their minions, even a misguidedly demonic dummy.  The final episode of this third season leaves us with our biggest challenge yet: saving the city from a giant, mutated, rampaging Max-beast, and most importantly, attempting to save Max himself.  Naturally, this will involve more crazy characters, a few pointed jokes, and plenty of zany puzzles.  But how does this finale measure up against previous episodes?  How does the season fare overall?  Is it worth taking the plunge at last (for those of you who’ve been holding out)?

GameStop may have arrived unstylishly tardy to the whole “digital download party,” but maybe we should all extend our courtesy and forget we’ve been practicing this immediacy via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network since, well, a while now. It’s simply another case of weighing each service against another, so let’s see if GameStop has anything Earth-shattering to offer, shall we?

Were you excited about Sonic Colors for the Nintendo Wii and DS?  Are you over the age of twelve?  If you answered yes to both of those questions, forget about buying Sonic Colors.  Apparently the game isn’t for you.  Normally I love brutal honesty from developers, but I think lead designer Takashi Iizuka just created a bit of a PR disaster when he basically sent off some seriously mixed signals recently.

Free Music from Shank

Posted by Kevin "K-Tuck" Tucker on August 5th, 2010

Klei Entertainment, the developer behind the upcoming PSN/XBLA/PC game Shank, has already given gamers more than enough reason to be excited about their polished-looking title. Now, they are giving even more. Available from The Official Shank Blog, a single piece from the game’s soundtrack is now available free for download.

The developer had also planned to promote its Facebook page for Shank by promising that if the game could get 1,500 fans, they would release the entire soundtrack. Seeing that their goal was hit almost immediately, the full soundtrack to Shank (scored by Vince De Vera) will be available for free download in the very near future.

Last week Marvel gave a sneak peak at LittleBigPlanet Marvel Costume Pack 3 at Comic-Con and today they officially revealed the characters that can be found in Pack 3 which, is on sale now on the PlayStation Store. The pack includes Invisible Women, Rogue, Captain America, Venom and Wolverine. Not a bad pack at all, although the Invisible Women can’t actually turn invisible. Cap looks awesome with the “A” taped on his head, and Venom and Wolverine just look badass. Check out the first screens released today.

After being left hanging at the end of Q-Games’ PixelJunk Shooter, many couldn’t help but wonder what would come next in the sequel to the critically-acclaimed game. Thanks to Sid Shuman, Senior Social Media Specialist for PlayStation Blog, we have some new details regarding PixelJunk Shooter 2, as well as a trailer to show off the game and all of its awesomeness. According to Shuman, PixelJunk 2 expands upon its predecessor in many ways. One way includes the use of light and darkness. Apparently going through dark areas will “attract invulnerable apparitions – the spectral remnants of a “lost civilization” — and almost instant death.” Be weary of the darkness, folks. (more…)

At first glance people might think Dead Nation is another run-of-the-mill zombie shoot-em-up game and completely dismiss it. But when they hear it’s from the same people who made Super Stardust HD, arguably one of the best PSN titles out there, and they’ll immediately gain interest. Dead Nation looks to take the same Super Stardust formula but bring it to a flat space and instead of having asteroids flying at you, you’ll have a ton of zombies to contend with. Today Sony released a new trailer for Dead Nation and some new screens that feature the hero fighting off a horde of baseball players who are infected with the virus.

Review: DeathSpank

Posted by Kevin "K-Tuck" Tucker on July 22nd, 2010

I have the feeling that DeathSpank is going to appeal to a lot of old-school gamers. Too many modern-era games try to deliver a serious, intense, epic, and dramatic story with multitudes of plot twists, betrayals, and the like. DeathSpank goes the complete opposite direction. Full of crisp visuals and irreverent humor, the latest from Ron Gilbert and Hothead Games delivers what many gamers want, but not necessarily what they might expect.
