Square Enix Confirms the Trademark “A Survivor is Born”

For those who saw the tease spread in the current month’s Game Informer issue, speculation of what that single phrase and image could possibly mean. Was it fan-made or is it truly hinting at a new Tomb Raider game?Today, we learned that the spread was not fan-made. In fact, it was Tomb Raider‘s current owner Square Enix who created and owns the spread.

Combined with the leaked concepts for the next Tomb Raider game, this spread is under heavy inspection as the wrecked ship and tag-line are reminiscent to those concepts. Checking the United States Patent and Trademark Office, we notice that Square Enix had filed for ownership on the 23rd of November. The “A Survivor is Born” tag-line, as stated on the record, could be seen on or in the following:

Computer game software; computer games; video game software; video games; electronic games for mobile phones; computer game software supplied on line by means of multi-media electronic broadcast or network transmission; publications in electronic form or other data provided by means of multi-media electronic broadcast or network transmission; disks and tapes pre-recorded with computer game software, video game software, or other electronic publications.

Now, to decide whether fans of Tomb Raider will be presented with a new entry in the series or if Square Enix is teasing them with something completely void of Lara Croft. My guess is that we’ll just have to wait and see what December 6, 2025 brings us.
