Microsoft Rep Responds to Mass Effect on PS3

In lieu of a very PS3-critical announcement via Gamescon, one would think that Microsoft would be a very jealous and bitter ex-lover of Bioware and their Mass Effect franchiseâwhat with their previous choice to see each other exclusively and all. Whelp, not exactly. “Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect franchise,” a Microsoft Representative seemed very matter-of-fact about declaring to IGN. So, youâre probably thinking, âHow am I supposed to enjoy Mass Effect 2 if Iâve never played Mass Effect?â Good question, Aguado.
Once I RRoD, my love-hate relationship with my 360 strengthened, however; I enjoyed the XBLA selection a tad more than PSN, I became accustomed to a more convenient and cohesive way to socialize with the gaming community, and I was often at an advantage for multi-platform releases. Within the last year or so, like many of you, Iâve been convinced that the PS3 and 360 are *both* worth their weight in solid exclusives and according to Bioware CEO Ray Muzyka, Mass Effect 3 is a âgood guessâ for a PS3 release, as well.
In an interview with VG247, Muzyka said “[ME3 on PS3 would] be a good guess, but we havenât announced any details on any future formats or anything, or even formally announced Mass Effect 3 yet, although thereâs a natural assumption that there will be a Mass Effect 3 as itâs a trilogy.”
“Weâve said that and more or less confirmed it, but we havenât announced any details on the product yet, or the platforms.” Muzyka also went on to discuss the multi-platform nature of EA and their desire to cater to everyone, 360 or otherwise.
âI said it on stage; weâve been asked again and again by journalists, fans, the community, âWhenâs it going to happen?â We wanted to make sure we could do it right. Weâve been working on it for a while. Weâre pretty excited by it. Weâre excited to bring Mass Effect to a new audience.â Hopefully, we all recognize that Mass Effect 2 is a 50~ hour (amazing) continuation of Mass Effect, yet Bioware has zero plans to release the first Mass Effect on the PS3 and January isnât very near. So, thereâs âŚthat.
