sk_pcIf you’re anything like the hardworking staff at Spawn Kill (or at least three of them), you’ve probably got a bone to pick with Modern Warfare 2 and its status as potential game of the year material. Spawn Kill owners Molotov Cupcake and Tigresa, along with staff writer The Herp bring you a bountiful, informative, and snarky cavalcade of discussion involving their reasoning behind nullifying Modern Warfare 2’s candidacy for game of the year (single-player finesse aside), Black Friday shenanigans, and inappropriate crushes on anime characters whose names rhyme with “fajita.”

But wait, there’s more! If you listen now you’ll have a chance to get in on a swanky contest. See an upcoming post for further details, or just have a listen at the third episode of the Spawn Kill Kill Kast: Why Modern Warfare 2 Is Not Game of the Year.

Thanks for listening!

I think Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the best game That came out I do understand How people think That theres to many camping maps. In any game that u play today there is always going to be camping and I have to admit I don't like camping but, it's going to happen so U just have to live with it so and the other thing that I don't like about the game is some of the perks are not needed but, over all the games is the best. The Campaign as to be my favorite part it keeps u on the edge of your seat through out the whole campaign because u never know what is going to happen so MW2 is tha Bomb so peace out.

IW dropped the ball with the game's overall presentation, I agree the multiplayer is halfassed. The game is really CoD: 4.5, the modded controllers doesn't help as much as people think. But I seen the glitches where people jump in a spot where you can't see them but they see you and shoot you. I went back to World at War =). Camping is lame and frag spamming sucks.

I want this on iTunes, that is all. :)

Entertaining Podcast; it was excellent travel fodder! On an unrelated note, something about the "Never" in that tagline "Sticking our Boomsticks..." just doesn't seem to "feel right" (mind you, I am borderline insane)...

    Keep up the nice work!

Sorry you almost got macheted. (Is that a word?) I nabbed Dragon Age from Amazon on Black Friday - although that PS3 bundle was sweet... would have gotten it if I Didn't have a BC one already or had someone to give it to. ;)

I find MW2's experience to be much more enjoyable than MW's ever was. But then my playing experience is probably very different from the majority. I don't go in to any playlist solo very often. I have a good gaming community to draw teammates from.

I really don't understand any complaints related to "camping". If someone is repeatedly killing you in/around a certain area... why continue to go there? One guy camping isn't going to be able to overcome a team working together. And a team holding an area of the map isn't "camping". It's strategy. Why should they give up their preferred spot on the map?

I've never understood the idea that if you don't run around the map chasing the other team, you're not playing the game correctly. But then I've been accused of "camping" even when I'm roaming the map with marathon/lightweight and a pair of 1887 shotguns.

I'm also quite happy at the removal of party chat from my personal favorite list, Hardcore Search and Destroy. It was an exploit used to get around the game mechanics and it no longer works. So huzzah.

I find the map design a vast improvement over MW. I'm not sure what the issue with map "variety" is? There are a bunch of different map styles, from my playing experience.

I think the new additions are pretty neat, in terms of killstreaks, attachments, perks, etc. I think that generally, they did a very nice job balancing the game. Sure the emblems and titles are fluff, but they're fun for people who like to be unlocking stuff constantly. It's just a little spice added for those of us who plan to prestige 10 times.

Whether or not it's the game of the year... personal preference. I have issues with it (mostly around the issues with their lobby system/matchmaking still being broken in the second game, and the vastly overpowered 1887... which I love) but it's clearly a great game.

I think I may have to disagree with your guys' take on MW2. I actually feel the opposite, meaning I think the multiplayer is awesome and the campaign was weak. first my thoughts on the campaign. I like a story that throughout the game I build some sort of connection with the character I am playing as, but here I can never achieve that connection because the character you play as dies basically every other mission, and that connection process has to restart each time. I understand that this is a game about war and that people die in war, and that you aren't playing as Master Chief, but some form of connection would be nice. The story is filled with so many twists and turns it is sometimes hard to follow what is actually going on, especially since there is quite a bit of dialog going on while you are fighting of swarms of enemies and trying to keep your wits about. It would be a better fit for the silver screen than for your platform of choice.

For the multiplayer I feel it is pretty awesome. I will say that I do kind of dislike deathmatches, only because I am more of a tactical player and prefer having an objective other than just killing the other team. I do like the maps and how they have different vertical planes, which I feel changes how you approach areas and makes you more aware of your surroundings. I can't think of a game that has such varied elevations, which is nice since I am not a run and gun type player, although it is very satisfying to knife people.

Anyway you all had excellent points on the podcast, and I enjoyed listening to it.

Just wanted to say CoD Isnt SOCOM/COUNTER STRIKE/RAINBOW SIX/GHOST RECON/ ANY OTHER FPS WHERE U DIE IN ONE HIT.

IW is retarded, they had a good formula and then they go on to lower the health to encourage *teamwork* as someone said on the comments. Yea... and if you play ffa then what? hiding in a corner isnt strategy. even in games like counter strike, people dont usually camp. It's a just a n00bs strategy but i dont blame them, its IW fault.

I'm gonna be out of here now and wont be reading any responses.

It might be a LOL to us, but Infinity Ward's decision to omit party chat from team-based gametypes was a move meant to encourage teamwork, and it's a laughable attempt at best. Camping is hardly thinking when it comes to some of the cretins that play on Xbox Live, and the type of "thinking" they mainly do is more focused on memorization, glitching, and advancement of their rank rather than proper enjoyment of the game that's fair to others. I haven't dabbled much in the third-person playlists, as my gripes with the game aren't wholly focused on the camping aspect -- that was more of Tigresa and The Herp's point. Mine is that the additions and tweaks feel much less like augments of importance and more like salt on buttered movie popcorn. It's excessive and it's extraneous, and it just wasn't necessary. And like you say, that's just me. I will still prefer Call of Duty 4 as I felt it had an excellent balance of maps and playlists to suit several different styles of play and not one singular movement: camp until you can't camp any more.

Got to admit you need some variation and different viewpoints, you all have the same opinion on the games you reviewed lol. Also DAO is amazing beaten it twice now if you're a girl you can get with Alistair too. Also, leliana is harder to bed for a guy just like the elf is for a girl.
  • The Herp
everyone get off MW2's balls cause it plays just like WAW and everyone hated that game.
  • Rob
Not talking about encouraging teamwork because really, teamwork? On XBL? LOL

I'm talking about encouraging a change in player habits. I don't condone camping but I do wish people would play smarter. If camping makes people my teammates stop and think, then so be it. Can't tell you how many times I've seen idiots run through a doorway and watched bodies pile up (because someone's probably camping on the other side), while I just look for another way around to flank.

I'm thinking this is what IW had in mind with the new map designs. It took me a little getting used to, but what really drove it home was playing in the third-person playlist. Reminded me of Ghost Recon and I started playing more like that style. After that I found the game less frustrating and more exciting. But that's just me.

Don't fall asleep next time! n___n
  • Molotov Cupcake
Using tact and intelligence to come out on top in a match is a completely different strategy than simply parking your derriere in one location and waiting for someone to walk by so you can up your kill count. It hardly encourages teamwork, IMHO, and it makes for a dull gameplay experience. I'd much rather have a chance even if I don't hop on every single night of my life.
  • Teaming up on a poor defenseless game huh?! Gotta do it when no one's around to defend it HUH?! Pick on someone your own size punks!
  • Rob
I don't get the complaints over MW2 maps and camping. I think the new map designs encourage strategy, and if you're a run-and-gunner then of course it won't be your bag. Maybe because I come from the Tom Clancy/SOCOM style of games, but I prefer using tactics to figure out where an opponent is going to be and create push and pull in a match. Sure, some players just pick a spot and sit there, but if that gets people to slow down and work through the map a little more carefully (and not get murderized all the time), I'm all for that. Especially they're on my team. :D
