3D Dot Game Heroes Gets NA Release Date!
Posted by Snarkasaur on November 17th, 2009
Whenever it gets to me during the Thanksgiving ritual of telling everyone at the table what we’re thankful for, my answers are always the same: Cherry Coke Zero, the hot waitress who works across the street from my apartment, and Atlus. Why Atlus? Because Atlus does right! And they’ve done right yet again by picking up From Software’s latest gem, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and giving it to the North American masses, complete with English language text! Today they announced the release date, and while it could certainly release sooner for my tastes, the May 11th street date gives players plenty of time to finish up the March released Final Fantasy XIII, and whatever else the first quarter of 2010 brings us (which is quite a bit).
For those unfamiliar, 3D Dot Game Heroes is “the ultimate love letter to retro gaming,” in particular The Legend of Zelda franchise, and unlike most of the love letters I write, this one will never land you a restraining order and a bad reputation. The entire visual scheme is pixelated, though manages to convey a fantastic looking aesthetic despite its retro theme. It’s also a PS3 exclusive. You can find more information (though the site isn’t quite complete yet) here.

I am grateful for this game and for Dante’s Inferno who rewards us for killing babies.
Yeah I said it.
Right on, sister! I’m excited as all getout for this game. Quirky speaks to me, as does retro!
LOL. Must be an interesting thanksgiving at your house.
Seriously, I am so glad we will be seeing this game in the US. I was worried it wouldn’t get localized, and I was going to have to start learning some Japanese pretty darn quickly…
Edge took a shit on it in their mini preview, but I don’t care. I think it will be awesomeness.
Does anyone know if this will be a PSN or retail release?
I thought I saw a retail disc, but it may have just been a mockup.
I’m excited about this game. This is one of those games for me that reviews mean nothing - It will be picked up.
Well, it looks like Gamestop has it for pre-order for $40, so I guess it is a retail release
.
Oh boy…40 bucks. This reminds me of our shovelware discussion on the podcast. 40 bucks make me think inferior game. That’s troubling.
$40 says to me this game isn’t small enough for PSN (not size-wise, of course), but it’s not quite a $60 title. In fact, I probably wouldn’t have purchased this outright if it was $60. I mean, it uses over 20-year-old mechanics! However, $40 makes it an day-one purchase for me.
I love that feeling! When you are so confident in a game’s awesome sauce. <3
Agreed! Reviews won’t sway my purchase at all on this one.
