Are you ready to lay the smackdown!? Well, before that, get ready to make a decision about which store you’re buying this year’s Smackdown vs. Raw from, because many stores seem to be offering different bonuses. Ranging from different characters to even money off of Pay-Per-View events, it seems like there is something to try to appeal to each Hulkamaniac… or Kanonite… or whatever’s in now. Take a look to see which stores are offering which bonuses on WWE’s newest addition to the Smackdown vs. Raw series.

I’ve been a DDR player for around 8 or 9 years now. I’m not one of those professional plays-on-two-arcade-machines-at-once kind of gals, but I’m certainly decent. If you’ve read my E3 hands-and-feet-on preview of the Wii version of the upcoming DDR game – you know my dilemma with how the series has changed over time. It’s gone from a tracklist of Eurobeat, hardcore, and Japanese-inspired songs to Britney Spears and Sean Paul songs slowly but surely. That’s when I left the scene… And waited ever so patiently for a return of the music that devoted DanceDanceRevolution players have been waiting for on current-gen consoles and arcades. We’re tired of tap dancing around on the PS2 if we want good music! Luckily I had a chance to try out the upcoming PS3 version of DDR at a Konami preview event in NYC this week which also utilizes the PlayStation Move hardware.

Sneak Preview: The music is back!

BioWare fans have plenty to look forward to: a new Star Wars MMO is in the works, a rumored Dragon Age: Origins GOTY may be coming soon, and Dragon Age 2 is on the horizon.  Today, BioWare and EA gave the RPG sequel a firm release date, and also revealed that Mass Effect 2 will be hitting the PS3 in January.

Earlier today, GameStop listed a PlayStation 3 Slim with a 160GB hard drive, available alone for $299.99 by itself, as part of a $404.97 God of War 3 bundle, or as part of a $379.97 accessory bundle. Any mention of the 160GB SKU is now absent from the website. According to Joystiq, GameStop’s front page labeled this particular SKU on the front page as “Just Announced” even though Sony hasn’t said a word regarding a 160GB PS3 for North America. Currently, Sony has a 120GB PS3 Slim for $299.99. We’ll report with updates as they come from Gamescom tomorrow.

Today Disney Sing It: Family Hits hits retail stores, the one singing game I’ve been looking out for for a while now, my one chance to sing “A Whole New World” and “The Bear Necessities” in an arena outside of my humble shower. Loaded up with 30 songs from Disney (and Disney/Pixar) movies a lot of us have grown up with, it launches today on both the PS3 and Wii. (more…)

Last year Netflix Instant Streaming finally hit the PlayStation 3 but in order to access Netflix you had to use a DVD that brought you to the streaming application. At the time everyone suspected that this was the only way Netflix could get around the exclusive deal they had with the Xbox 360, which has a native app. Now that the exclusive license is sent to run out, Netflix is finally going to offer an app which will not require the disc for the PS3.

For all of you who missed out on this great series for the PS2, the Sly Cooper Collection is coming to the PS3 this fall. Much in the spirit of the God of War Collection, the Sly Collection will be remastered in high definition. The price for this new deal is set to be $40. How can PS3 owners pass this deal up!?

Review: Naughty Bear

Posted by Stephanie "Tigresa" Palermo on July 16th, 2010

Naughty Bear, when first announced, gave me a vibe that I’d get from those games I used to play as a kid but shouldn’t have, you know, like Conker’s Bad Fur Day. The games you had to have your friend’s less-righteous-than-your-mother parent to buy at Blockbuster for you because you’re 12. While not nearly as mature as anything like Conker, you can perform some incredibly criminal acts to the seemingly innocent sacks of fluff living on Perfection Island. Oh, if they had just invited me to their birthday party…

After more than 20 years, everyone’s favorite moonwalker (may he Rest in Peace)  is finally getting another video game made for him. Ubisoft’s Michael Jackson game, simply titled Michael Jackson: The Experience, is going to be developed for the PSP, DS, Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. According to Ubisoft, The Experience will utilize the Wii MotionPlus, Kinect, and Move. Get ready to Beat It, Jackson fans.

The Wii version will be similar to Ubisoft’s Just Dance, while the Xbox 360 version is going to project 3D images of the player onto the screen (can we say Michael Jackson costumes?). Both the DS and PSP versions are said to be tap-based games. Not too much has been discussed about the PS3 version yet, but be sure that we will keep you updated as frequently as possible about The King of Pop’s latest video game appearance.

It’s too few and far between these days that we get to experience solid console co-op games. The last enjoyable one off the top of my head that I played extensively was Resident Evil 5, and that was already well over a year ago. Oh, and Borderlands, which is certainly fun, but moreso in the way that you and some friends can “hang out” and do a ton of mindless (the story is as generic as generic gets and you know it!) but really fun missions. That’s why when Bethesda announced they were publishing inXile Entertainment’s upcoming co-op title Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, I’ve kept my eyes peeled ever since. Luckily, at E3 I had the chance to play an extremely polished demo of Hunted and walked away with feelings of probably the game I would have been hands-down most excited to take home with me from E3.

I didn’t get a chance to play every PlayStation Move game at E3 but the few that I did gave me a good idea of what I could expect from the Move. For those who don’t know what the PS Move is, its Sony’s new motion control peripheral. Working in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye (camera), the Move controller with the ball at the end of it can sense almost every movement the player makes. I was able to test out the Move playing Time Crisis: Razing Storm, Resident Evil 5 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. Each of these games shows off a different way to use the PS Move and, more importantly, are geared towards the more “hardcore” audience.

I could sum up my thoughts in a single sentence about this game:  Red Dead Redemption is my Game of the Year right now, and I honestly can’t see anything surpassing it.  The attempts to bring a Western to the gaming world have been relatively rare.  Rockstar tried it once with Red Dead Revolver, but that title wasn’t even really their game as they had bought the rights from Capcom to publish it.  Gun was a marginal success and even saw PSP and Xbox 360 re-releases, and the Call of Juarez games did all right too.  But the Western genre has never seen its the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.  There have been quality attempts, but nothing blockbuster.  Red Dead Redemption changes that, and sets a nigh unreachable bar for any future attempts at gunslinging. Remember that old awesome board game we used to call Chess back in the day? Yeah, that old game that’s been around for some-odd centuries or what-have-you. Or maybe you stuck to your guns in the simpler red and black checkers game, and that’s cool, too. But we wouldn’t want you to miss out on the upcoming Battle vs Chess, SouthPeak’s upcoming chess game using 3D models and beastly war ravaging pieces taking chess to a whole new level. It’s only going to be able for just about every platform ever except for that newfangled iPad doohickey, too.

Just over a year ago, Street Fighter IV ushered back 2D fighters in a big way.  Now, with the release of Super Street Fighter IV, Capcom proves that if it ain’t broke, tweak it and make it better.  The genre is here to stay, as this game has been eagerly anticipated since hints of it dropped last summer.  But is Super Street Fighter IV worthy of a full disc release or is it simply just minor DLC-esque add-ons to an already great game?
