All Points Bulletin Shutting Down Permanently

Realtime Worlds hasn’t exactly been having a good year. After many forced layoffs in the company, it seems as though they are shutting down All Points Bulletin, the open-world crime MMOG…forever. This is obviously very bad news if you’re an APB fan, an MMORPG that only just came out at the end of June 2010.
Realtime Worlds is also responsible for Crackdown and their upcoming game, Project: MyWorld. Despite their best efforts to create the best possible game they could, All Points Bulletin was released to mediocre reviews and hacker problems. Realtime Worlds claimed to have a playerbase of at least 130,000 people, and they also had high hopes they would find a buyer to help get them out of trouble, but it seems as though these efforts have not paid off.
Community Officer Ben Bateman had the following to say about APB’s termination:
“APB has been a fantastic journey, but unfortunately that journey has come to a premature end. Today we are sad to announce that despite everyone’s best efforts to keep the service running; APB is coming to a close. It’s been a pleasure working on APB and with all its players. Together we were building an absolutely amazing game, and for that, we thank you. You guys are awesome! From all of the Realtime World staff we thank you for your continued support.”
If you were an APB fan and have outstanding points, there has been no official word on what will be done in compensation. There also hasn’t been an official word on when the servers will be shutting down specifically, but Eurogamer says they’ll be going down for good tomorrow. So jump into the game one final time before it’s gone for good while you still can! The game is no longer on store shelves or on Steam.
Despite how you may feel about the game, it’s always sad when an MMORPG (or MMOG in this case) dies. Many people put in a lot of time and effort into their characters and many forge lasting friendships and relationships through online titles such as APB. The development team worked very hard on their title and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

Wow, I knew they were having trouble and APB wasn’t the best, but MMO’s are so dynamic, I had figured the problems would work themselves out. I can’t believe it’s shutting down after only a couple of months. That really is sad for everyone involved.
Yeah. This all happened so incredibly fast. I feel so sad for everyone involved.
Thanks for sharing this!
