The Calling Announced for Wii

Perhaps publishers are finally realizing there are serious, Wii-owning gamers out there tired of Barbie shovelware. Whatever the reason, horror fans have reason to love their little white box, as a slew of titles are hitting the system over the next few months. You may already be following Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Cursed Mountain, and Ju-On: The Grudge, not to mention the various Resident Evil sequels and re-releases. Now, fear fans have another title to salivate over: The Calling.
Having absolutely nothing to do with the band of the same name, the game, announced recently by Hudson Entertainment, is a take on stories like The Ring. A mysterious website called The Black Page exists: rumor has it that anyone who visits this page will die shortly after, but is it just an urban myth? You soon discover the horrifying truth: anyone who sees the Black Page is soon transferred into a limbo-like world composed of the memories of the dead, trapped between life and death. You must search through this mysterious world in order to find some escape and discover who is drawing the living into this terrifying netherworld.
The Calling looks to play like survival horror meets point-and-click adventure, as you navigate your surroundings, using the Wiimote to examine items and interact with your environment. Every item is potentially important, as many will harbor clues that will help you solve the mystery and escape.
“Players will be asked to use their wits and senses to survive the world of Calling,” said Mike Pepe, Director of Marketing of Hudson Entertainment. “It is a game that revolves around real people and real emotions – no chain saws or suits of armor. The game is traditional survival horror at its finest.”
Details are limited; for example, it isn’t yet clear if the game will play more like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories or whether it will involve combat of some sort. More reveals are expected at San Diego Comic Con later this month.
