Xbox Live Arcade is home to a lot of unique titles of all types of genres. The Spawn Kill crew fished for each of one of our favorite picks available on the marketplace that we’d recommend to our readers. As usual PopCap games sneak in and are some of our coveted addictions, but don’t be surprised if a zombie or explosionary icon sneaks up on you either. Plants vs. Zombies, the hit game by PopCap, has been in the news quite a bit recently. There’s an Xbox Live version of the game hitting the marketplace soon, and the company recently had to take out Zombie Michael Jackson and replace it with a disco zombie. Now, Valve and PopCap games wants us to know that the Game of the Year edition is available for download on Steam.

Gyromancer Now Available

Gyromancer is the result of PopCap and Square Enix getting together and bumping uglies until something beautiful came out. The title is a blend of PopCap’s undeniably addictive puzzle games (this game seems to be heavily influenced by Bejeweled) and Square Enix’s strong proprietary blend of role-playing herbs and spices. Gyromancer has players solve puzzles and puzzle-like scenarios while defeating monsters with summoned beasts and magical abilities.

shantae-dsiwareThings are really starting to look up for Nintendo’s latest iteration of their popular handheld, the DSi. Last week saw the US release of two new colors for the device, which is now available in Black, White, Pink, and Aqua. Also revealed last week was the system’s first episodic game, the fan-favorite Shantae (who previously appeared in a GameBoy Color game), which will be making an appearance on DSiWare in three installments, the first of which, subtitled Risky’s Revenge, will be available this winter. The game got extensive (6 pages) coverage in the current issue of Nintendo Power, in which WayForward revealed the series will be both individual, smaller games while still being a unified whole. Players who purchase all three episodes will be rewarded, as their inventory will carry over from one episode to the next. Although no pricing has yet been discussed, this promises to be a great game with a high gameplay value, and will truly be comparable to many retail titles in quality, something currently lacking in most DSiWare games.
