Review: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Posted by K-Tuck on December 6th, 2009

Modern Warfare 2 had more hype than any recent title that I can remember. It look a lot of active work for me to avoid details before I was able to experience the game first-hand. The work paid off, of course, as I had no expectations for the title outside of the many hours of fun I had with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I can say with certainty that Infinity Ward has improved upon the Modern Warfare formula.

sk_pcIf you’re anything like the hardworking staff at Spawn Kill (or at least three of them), you’ve probably got a bone to pick with Modern Warfare 2 and its status as potential game of the year material. Spawn Kill owners Molotov Cupcake and Tigresa, along with staff writer The Herp bring you a bountiful, informative, and snarky cavalcade of discussion involving their reasoning behind nullifying Modern Warfare 2’s candidacy for game of the year (single-player finesse aside), Black Friday shenanigans, and inappropriate crushes on anime characters whose names rhyme with “fajita.”

But wait, there’s more! If you listen now you’ll have a chance to get in on a swanky contest. See an upcoming post for further details, or just have a listen at the third episode of the Spawn Kill Kill Kast: Why Modern Warfare 2 Is Not Game of the Year.

Thanks for listening!

Posted by Spawn Kill on November 17th, 2009

sk_pcFor the Spawn Kill staff, delivering on solid news and reviews (and everything in between) isn’t quite enough. We want to deliver a full-circle experience for the reader. Hence, we are happy to bring to you Spawn Kill Kill Kast Episode 2.

Episode 2 of the Kill Kast features the presence of Tigresa, TheHerp, Snarkasaur, and K-Tuck discussing the impact of Modern Warfare 2′s controversial missions and multiplayer gameplay mechanics, Dragon Age: Origins, the preconception of budget games as being innately inferior, and the many titles past and present being played by the staff.

Feel free to download and share, and let us know what topics you would like to hear discussed in Episode 3!

**If you missed out on Kill Kast episode 1, it was a short (30 minute) pilot episode done by the two leading ladies (as they call us) Tigresa and Molotov Cupcake in celebration of E3. Feel free to check that out as well!

So sometimes people in the industry will do a little ditty for the fans and record themselves opening up the box of a game before it is attainable to us. Usually, it’s less than exciting and has something useless like, oh I don’t know, a helmet that can only fit the head of newborn kitten. But this, this… (Call of Duty) Modern Warfare 2? I put it in parentheses because the last that was announced was that Call of Duty WAS going to be in the official finalized title, after all the switching back and forth a la Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams (Or whatever they ended up deciding on/Are still deciding with Bioshock), but in the strikingly exciting unboxing that was revealed via Robert Bowling’s twitter feed the other day, Community Manager and Bossman of all things Modern Warfare, Call of Duty was lacking from the boxart of the Hardened edition shown. Then again, I suppose there is plenty of time to make amendments, but I figured if it was being revealed as an epic unboxing, that it was the finalized packaging.
