Re-Mastering Metal Gear Solid: A Wish List
The interweb is a-buzz this week with rumors of a remastered Metal Gear Solid pack featuring the first three games of the series, currently in the works for the PlayStation 3. Being a humongous fan of the series since its re-emergence on the original PlayStation, and having just had earnest discussions about a potential remastery, this news struck many delicious chords in my gamer-soul. I love re-playing classic games, but living in an HD world makes it painful to do so. Games also feels very different from when returning to them years later, and advances in controls and technology often render the old ways obsolete. With all this is mind, I decided to lay out what I, personally, would love to see from this remastery of a pack of masterful games.

Well would you look at that. This short VGA teaser pretty much consists of Geoff Keighley talking about all the amazing things that will transpire tomorrow night at Spike's VGA festivities. Regardless of which game wins or loses, in reality, we'll all be winners thanks to all the reveals that will take place. This video teases one that may be a bit unexpected.

Just yesterday, Hideo Kojima came strolling along the streets of SOHO, New York City in Metal Gear REX touting his Big Boss shirt to celebrate the recent release of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (June 8th) for American fans. Well, maybe they couldn't fit REX in Koji-san's helicopter, but he definitely had a nice entourage of bodyguards for any "just in case" crazy New York fan moments. We understand, Kojima. (more...)

Sometimes I go to bed thinking about Big Boss. I know I shouldn't, but the man haunts me. He is so much machismo. So much manly dominance. He is testosterone. Thus you can imagine my delight seeing the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker demo heading to the PSN this week. It boasts the four missions seen at E3, is in English, and is ready right now. Read on to grab the demo!

Metal Gear Solid has been hailed as one of the best games of all time. Not only did it win numerous awards and become an Editor's Choice at numerous publications, it spawned one of modern gaming's biggest and most profitable series. Since its release, Metal Gear Solid has been ported to the PC and PlayStation network as simply newer versions of the original game. Though Metal Gear Solid is a true classic, it doesn't quite live up to the style and visual flair of the Nintendo Gamecube's 2004 remake, appropriately titled Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. It wasn't very long ago when I was sitting at work talking to customers about their gaming experiences. I was still stuck in the PS2/Gamecube era, and the folks I conversed with had told me about amazing experiences with their Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems. I've lived through several next-generation conversions, though to my knowledge the more recent hardware changes offered little more than graphical enhancements. My interest in Sony's six-hundred dollar machine was piqued when I heard stories of games with far-out mechanics and non-traditional presentation. When I made my purchase and dived into familiar genres, I wasn't too impressed. It wasn't until I picked up a few key titles that I was truly sold on what next-generation meant. These five games are the ones that sold me on the premise of next-generation gaming. (more...)

Just this past weekend I headed out to NYAF (New York Anime Fest) at the Javits Center in NYC. I snapped some shots of cosplayers (myself not included here 'cause I'm shy) all around the convention center, supported my local artists by nabbing their artistic swag to plaster on my walls and sat quietly through the masquerade as cosplayers showcased their epic (questionable...) talents. Although it was not a gaming convention, the anime and video game culture are so closely linked that an abundance of video game characters were able to make it to the show. Check out some snapshots of a few video game cosplayers I peeped below! Chrono Cross...! (more...)
