For those who have waited for fourteen years for a sequel to the ever popular and considered one of the best platformers, the news of Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii is likened to hitting the jackpot. And what better way is there to spend your time awaiting the November release than to ogle at these latest screen shots and trailer released by Nintendo? This is the first entry in the series to not have Rare for the developer but I must say that Retro Studios looks like they can do the series right with this side scrolling, 2.5D platform game.

The Donkey Kong Country series is probably one of the series I have put more time of my life into than any other game series. The latest trailer does not disappoint for those looking for a quick fix of nostalgia. The music alone is enough to get a blind fan’s blood pumping. If there has ever been a remake that played true to its roots after such a long period of time has passed - Donkey Kong Country Returns so far seems to be getting as close as one can get to that delivery. Looks like one of the Animal Buddies, Rambi the rhinocerous, has returned! I’m excited to find out if there will be new companions and if we’ll see others like Winky and Expresso will be returning.

Check out the trailer below and 20 new screenshots!

It’s such a great feeling to be really, really excited about not just one, but two upcoming Wii releases this fall. Our pink friend Kirby arrives on store shelves in only a few weeks, and then, in November, along comes Donkey Kong, whom we haven’t seen in his own game in a long time.

In case you haven’t yet pre-ordered Donkey Kong Country Returns, Gamestop has a pretty sweet pre-order bonus offer for you: a cute banana Wiimote holder (aka banana pouch). I have to admit, this has me seriously tempted to pre-order from Gamestop instead of somewhere else.

But act quickly, as these bonuses usually come in limited quanities. DKCR releases in North America on November 21, 2010.
