Diablo III Beta Given to BlizzCon Attendees and New Gameplay Footage

At the close of this year's BlizzCon, Blizzard announced that they will be holding a semi-public beta for Diablo III. They gave away 1,000 beta codes to random attendees who went to the closing of the event. Does this mean there is reason to be hopeful that the title will be releasing in the near future instead of two years from now? Maybe, but remember they gave away beta codes for StarCraft II at the 2008 BlizzCon and the beta didn't come till this year. While those lucky fans take part in the beta, those of us will have to sit at home and watch the new gamplay footage over and over, wishing we could play Diablo III. Check out the new footage.

Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm Still in Development

Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm is still undergoing significant changes. Blizzard's lead producer of Starcarft II, Chris Sigaty, says that the content and mechanics of the game are in a flux. However, we can expect the campaign structure to be similar to Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty. We can also expect changes on the multi-player component; it's highly likely that those changes will reflect across the three races. Although Chris Sigaty does not have any specifics, we can tell that there will be both small and big chances across the board with Heart of the Swarm.

Banning Isn’t Blizzard’s Only Way of Punishing StarCraft II Hackers

During the beginning of the month of October, Blizzard banned 5,000+ StarCraft II accounts due to usage of hacks to gain an unfair edge in the video game. Not long afterward, we learn that Blizzard has stepped up their actions with a lawsuit against three programmers who are accused of creating and releasing game-modifying hacks to the public.

Diablo 3 Level Cap Announced

Blizzard Entertainment's employee, Bashiok, has responded to a user on Battle.net about the level cap for Diablo 3. The addicting hack-and-slash, point-and-click action RPG has been in development since 2001, and not much has cropped up until the recent announcement about the character classes (the Barbarian, the Witch Doctor, the Wizard, and the Monk) that will be used. Eager as we are, we finally received word about the level cap, and it's a bit surprising - level 60. Yes, the cap used for WoW is the same for Diablo 3.

Character Name Changes Coming to StarCraft II

Character name changes are coming to StarCraft II in a similar fashion to World of WarCraft's paid character name changes. When first connecting to Battle.net in, players choose a character name that becomes permanently attached as their usernames and forum names. Unfortunately, some players didn't know this and entered first names or some other username that they later wished they hadn't chosen. Luckily, Blizzard is giving everyone a free name change very soon, with subsequent name changes to be implemented after a player pays a fee. More details are upcoming.

StarCraft II Beta Returns Amidst Real ID Controversy

About a month ago, Blizzard ended Phase 1 of the StarCraft II beta and said that it would return for a second round of testing a few weeks before the game's release. That time has come and the beta has returned with patch 16, which includes a few Zerg fixes including an Ultralisk buff, an unlock of the other AI difficulties, new maps, and a new batch of achievements. Of course, the return of the beta comes right after the company's controversial announcement of the proposed change to the official Blizzard forums. The "Real ID" system, Blizzard's "optional" friend system for StarCraft II and World of Warcraft, would be incorporated into the forums so that instead of usernames appearing, posters' real names would display instead.
