ALT+F4: Labor Day Sales, MMO News
Posted by Future Man on September 5th, 2009
There’s one metric crapload of ways to save money on grabbing some PC gaming goodness this Labor Day Weekend, Steam, GoG, Impulse, and the usual places are offering some really great deals. Star Trek Online has opened up applications for the upcoming closed beta, which will provide players the chance to captain a really expensive spaceship. Lord of the Rings Online is expanding into Mirkwood, as a download only expansion with a few details now available.
Check out all the great sales and some more information on Star Trek Online, and the new expansion for LOTRO, after the jump.

Square Enix is about to release a WW2 RTS, Order of War, there’s some details on that inside and a demo available. It’s not a too shabby, either. Valve is about lay down the law to those cheating in Team Fortress 2 to obtain the dropped items, looks like they’re going to be able to kiss all of their ill gotten goods farewell. Lastly but not least, Blizzard has instituted a new service that allows you to change the faction your character belongs to, for a fee.
A couple of contrasting stories for you today, in hero and villain flavors. Cryptic’s MMO, Champions Online is now live, available on store shelves in North America and ready to go. Notorious patent troll, Tim Langdell, has stepped down from his fairly ironic position on the board at IGDA. But don’t worry, he provides plenty of laughable insanity in the letter explaining his departure.
Anyone tired of shoveling out money for MMO subscriptions should be glad to know that Guild Wars 2 will maintain series tradition of requiring nothing other than an initial purchase. Lots of juicy details have found their way out of hiding for this game, as well as a pretty sharp trailer that you can check out in the full story. Killing Floor just got updated with a significant content patch, adding two new weapons and a map, and it makes for a pretty good time. Ubisoft is opening up registration for beta testing their deception based RTS, R.U.S.E.
Today brings with it a demo for Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, to tempt anyone who has been considering the title since it was released earlier this year. ARMA II is heading to Takistan with new expansion ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead. World of Warcraft is making some old content a little more beefy in time for the 5th anniversary, by cranking Onyxia up a few notches for current players. This slow news day is brought to you by me getting to play mechanic all day, so look for some additional PC gaming goodness over the weekend.
