Review: Mimana Iyar Chronicles

For a long while, PSP owners had a drought where RPGs were concerned. Crisis Core is a great game and Half Minute Hero is probably the most innovative RPG on any console, but compared to the massive catalog of RPGs over there on the DS, PSP owners have been poorly served. Because of this inattention, many might find Mimana Iyar Chronicles a welcome addition to the catalog. They might be blinded to its faults out of sheer need for something in the role-playing realm. Aksys Announces Mimana RPG

This seems to be the week of revelations, at least when it comes to new titles, or titles newly coming to North America. Today, Aksys joined the pack by announcing a PSP RPG, scheduled to release Spring 2010 for both UMD and PSN in North America, Mimana: Iyar Chronicle. "Mimana: Iyar Chronicle is a great mix of fast-paced, real-time action battles combined with a slew of girls to accompany you along the way,” states Frank “Bo” deWindt II, Associate Producer, Aksys Games. “With your ladies by your side on your epic quest to save the world, no one can stand in your way!” The game features hand-drawn anime scenes and sprites, and a real-time battle system. So far, it looks to be cute with a sense of humor. Hit the break for some screens. (more...)

Review: Rockin’ Pretty

My insatiable lust for all things even remotely related to rhythm games will forever haunt me, as I drop the Benjamins on titles that will satisfy my hunger for becoming a rock star, if even for a few fleeting moments. Aksys Games' Rockin' Pretty caught my eye the instant I noted an ad on the official Aksys website. Though I was sure at first it would be just another pitiable attempt at catering to "girl gamers," I knew deep down that I would end up sampling it at one point or another simply because it offered the ability to play four different instruments in a rock band on Nintendo's diminutive handheld. Reluctantly I took Rockin' Pretty for a spin in all its sequined, shoujo glory, and came out quite entertained with the end result of a hard day's night spent hunched over my DS, stylus firmly clenched in hand. It's not perfect, and it's far too cute for its own good, but it serves its purpose as a childish rhythm game that serves up plenty of challenge. (more...)
