I’ve done my best to think of an accurate way to describe 3D Dot Game Heroes, and the only adjective that seems to fit is ‘paradoxical’. 3D Dot Game Heroes is both modern and retro, silly and serious, easy and difficult, and lastly, both homage and parody. This game easily fits into a very familiar category of games, yet everything it presents to the player is unexpectedly new and delightful. Putting this game into a nutshell is both impossible and highly probable.

With only sixteen days left before its US release, Atlus has released a web-based version of one of 3D Dot Game Heroes‘ most creative utilities — the hero creator. The 3D Hero Creator utilizes essentially the same tools that will be available in the full version, albeit lacking a few of the features that will make the editor just as simple and intuitive to use on the PlayStation 3. In addition to giving US players an early look, the editor also includes a few extra incentives.

Have you heard of 3D Dot Game Heroes? I sure hope so. Following suit with the last few vignettes released, the latest video to be released (titled “Dot-Mart”, detailing the store of the same name) portrays some of the subtle and not-so-subtle comedy that makes 3D Dot Game Heroes so unique, while sneakily showing off a handful of weapons, items, and environments.

Aram Jabbari, Executive Dragonslayer and Manager of Public Relations and Sales for Atlus, made a recent post to the PlayStation.blog showing off more of the incredibly awesome upcoming title 3D Dot Game Heroes. If you’re like me, you can’t get enough of this title. Check out this latest of trailers below, and if you haven’t read my preview already, I think you should give it a look.

THE MOST INTERESTING HERO IN 3D

Anyone following Atlus should have a pretty solid glimpse of what they are all about. Even though they are in the gaming business, they don’t strive to make something lighthearted serious. In fact, they intend to bolster that idea both with their upcoming title 3D Dot Game Heroes and this particular vignette. Titled “The Most Interesting Hero in 3D”, this quick video shows some of the bigger enemies and bullet points of the game.

I was recently able to attend a live demonstration of 3D Dot Game Heroes, the upcoming parody/homage action/adventure title under the Atlus umbrella. During the demo, Atlus USA’s Manager of PR and Sales Aram Jabbari went through some of the bigger bullet points and finer details of the upcoming game.

3D Dot Game Heroes, the upcoming retro throwback gaming homage/parody action adventure role playing game straight out of the minds at Atlus, has been garnering a lot of attention for its three-dimensional pixels. The unusually breathtaking visuals of the game are both an impressive technical accomplishment and an interesting way to tap into the player’s imagination. Working further towards this ideal, 3D Dot Game Heroes will include an apparently-robust character editor where the possibilities are seemingly limitless.

With plenty of buzz abound for Atlus’ upcoming retro throwback “homage” title 3D Dot Game Heroes, the company has decided to release some new screenshots pimping the game’s English localization. The screens clearly show the attention to detail both for the game’s unique three-dimensional pixel-filled graphics and the overall “old-school” aesthetic that the game has come to be known for.

Because Atlus doesn’t have a European branch, Japanese games localized by them in the US must find a different publisher for PAL territories. This usually means long delays. For example, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, Knights in the Nightmare, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier, The Dark Spire, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, Crimson Gem Saga, and Demon’s Souls… etc. haven’t even been announced there. However, SouthPeak Games has decided to pick up 3D Dot Game Heroes for Europe, which is good news, as the game is scheduled to hit store shelves in May, the same time frame as Atlus in North America.

Whenever it gets to me during the Thanksgiving ritual of telling everyone at the table what we’re thankful for, my answers are always the same: Cherry Coke Zero, the hot waitress who works across the street from my apartment, and Atlus. Why Atlus? Because Atlus does right! And they’ve done right yet again by picking up From Software’s latest gem, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and giving it to the North American masses, complete with English language text! Today they announced the release date, and while it could certainly release sooner for my tastes, the May 11th street date gives players plenty of time to finish up the March released Final Fantasy XIII, and whatever else the first quarter of 2010 brings us (which is quite a bit).

3D Dot Game Heroes Coming to America

Posted by Joshiepoo on October 28th, 2009

Hurray! Another wacky Japanese PS3 game is being released in America. Yesterday via Sony’s PlayStation twitter and Siliconera we got confirmation on the rumor that 3D Dot Game Heroes will be coming out in North America for the PlayStation 3. No publisher was detailed, but since Sony Computer Entertainment America made the announcement we should consider them the front runner.

I had no idea what this game was about, so I did a little research for you all. It’s a game developed by From Software, makers of Demon’s Souls (which means it will be hard) and takes place in a classic RPG kingdom whose king, following the successful defeat of a demon lord, declares that the world should be in 3D. As you can tell from the picture above something goes horribly wrong and it is your job to find out. Ain’t that always the way?
