PSP Gearing Up for E3 With Some Big Game Announcements
Posted by The Herp on May 1st, 2009
There have been a slew of announcements for upcoming games for the PSP and most of them seem to be big Triple-A titles. So far, we already know that titles like Little Big Planet and Rock Band are coming to the PSP, but yesterday Sony announced two more big titles set to come to the PSP: Soulcalibur along with Tekken 6 will be coming to the PSP sometime in Q3.
Soulcalibur will be a full-fledged title and not a scaled down port. The game will include all features that were in Soulcalibur IV and will also include a new single player mode made for the PSP. It will include 30 fighters and 1 new character as well. It will also support multiplayer, which is necessary for a fighting game. Tekken 6 will include additional stages, items and a multiplayer mode. Not much else is known about the portable version of Tekken 6 but it will be releasing alongside the console versions.
With PSP 2 rumors floating around and with this announcement I couldn’t help but look at what else is to come this year for the PSP. What I found was that a ton of games are set to be released this year. These are all the big titles coming to the PSP after E3, which is in June:
-
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
- Pixel Junk Monsters Deluxe
- Tekken 6
- Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny
-
Little Big Planet Portable
-
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
-
Rock Band Unplugged
-
MotorStorm: Artic Edge
-
Dirt 2
-
SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 3
With these game announcements and the next big game (Patapon 2) being released only via download, all signs point to a new handheld system for the PSP being announced at E3. Some say the reason the PSP is failing is due to piracy issues, but that’s even a bigger reason Sony desperately needs a new system. If they can’t bring back life to the PSP these potentially great games will fall into the same hole that Resistance: Retribution did; a great game that didn’t sell.
