NHL 10: Demo Available Now
Posted by The Herp on August 24th, 2009
Ever since any information was released about EA’s NHL 10 the producers have been teasing fans by saying the NHL 10 demo will be unlike any sports demo released. Well, the demo is out now and from what it looks like it is everything NHL 09 fans could have wanted short of being able to play a full game with 20 minute periods. The demo will include the new Battle for the Cup mode, show off new features in the Be A Pro mode and will have an interactive tutorial to get you acquainted with the new Fighting and Board Play. Unfortunately for PS3 fans, the demo is only available for Xbox Live Gold Subscribers; PS3 fans out there will get a chance to play the demo on August 27th. Check out the trailer after the jump to see everything you can do in the demo.
Although the demo won’t include a full game you will be able to test out the new Battle for the Cup mode. The mode is similar to a tournament mode in which you can play against friends for the Stanley Cup. In the demo you will be sent in during the 3rd period of game 7 in the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals. You’re playing as Pittsburgh with a 2-0 lead over Detroit. The twist is you have Sidney Crosby who is playing injured and you can either bench him for the 3rd or you can play him knowing he isn’t 100%. But that’s just the first time you play the demo. Every time after that you will come up with different scenarios as the games prior to game 7 will be simulated which will cause different injuries to come up and different scores. So every time you play the 3rd period of game 7 you will have a brand new experience. Even if it’s just the 3rd period you’ll be able to experience all the new improvements to the game from the crowd to the new board play.
The next part of the demo showcases the new Prospects Game in the Be A Pro mode. The Be A Pro mode takes your created character and brings him all the way from a minor league star to an NHL superstar. The demo will start you off in the new Prospects Game during the 3rd period. In this new feature you will have to play your best and show off all your talent to the scouts in hopes of becoming the number one overall draft pick. Everything you do will be evaluated and graded to either lower your rise your stock in the draft. You can play as any player type you want and when the game is over all you can do is wait for your name to be called.
The demo will include all difficulties and the new hardcore game type for you to check out. You will also be able to play as either Pittsburgh or Detroit in the Battle for the Cup mode. It will also give you the ability to create your own player and once your done with that you’ll be brought through the tutorial similar to the one found in NHL 09. EA is used to putting out demo’s that are really short and do nothing to show you how the new game is different so it’s very shocking that EA Vancouver has decided to go against the grain and give gamers what they want in a demo. Don’t forget to check back for our preview of NHL 10 and all the new gameplay improvements.
