Gift Guide for the Gamer Who Has Everything Thumbnail

Gift Guide for the Gamer Who Has Everything

Last year I compiled a list of things for the affluent, items few gamers would ever purchase but that we might all have drooled at as they taunted us, glittering wonderfully behind store windows. It was actually more of a mix of mostly accessible items and socially irresponsible toys. This year I'm taking a slightly different perspective on things. I'm still going to compile a list of items that your poor gamer would probably pass on, but it might be a touch more practical this time around. Book Review: Mass Effect Revelation

In the original Mass Effect game, it was a player's job as Commander Shepard to stop a Reaper invasion of the galactic government body known as The Citadel. While darker in tone and aesthetic than its real-life counterpart, it presents itself as a pleasing complement that acts a perfect companion to old fans and a great starting point for new ones. It will act as a three-part origin story for The Guildies, and personally I can't wait to see what's to come. (more...)

Review: Dragon Age: The Calling Thumbnail

Review: Dragon Age: The Calling

It's fairly common these days for the epic greats we all know in gaming to receive much more than just the standard game treatment. We receive comics and novels, anime spinoffs, soundtrack releases and figures, to bottom tier relevance such as bubble-breasted mousepads. With such a varied cast of characters whose relationship depends on every decision you make, and an incredibly vast world such as that of Dragon Age: Origins, it is no surprise that we've been already given two novels pre-dating the game's storyline. The later and more recent novel, The Calling, does not require you to have read the first novel at all, nor need to have played the game. Is The Calling for you? (Spoiler-free!)
