Hey everyone! I know you read our review of Comic Jumper and have just been itching at the wallet to dive into this XBLA hunk of gold. Personally, it’s the best Xbox Live Arcade game I’ve played to date - so missing this would be a crime. I know some of you may (questionably!) be on the fence or don’t have the moneybags for this fix, and we don’t want you to miss out so this time we’re giving you all a chance to win Comic Jumper from Spawn Kill!

Do you ever think, what can I do to help children in need? This Saturday will be the answer to that question. October 16th is when the annual Extra Life 24 hour gaming charity takes place. Founded in 2008, Sarcastic Gamer started this charity to donate money to local children’s hospitals. As the community expanded, they allowed people to sign up and raise money for their local children’s hospitals. On Saturday, Spawn Kill writers will be raising money for their local children’s hospital.

I think a lot of our readers might be already familiar with the Mimobot brand, one of the well-known geek culture USB drive brands. What better place to show off the goods than at New York Comic-Con this past weekend? I stopped by their booth during the show to see what new Mimobots they had in store for everyone. They cover quite a few of my soft spots - Star Wars, Halo, Tokidoki and Hello Kitty / Sanrio characters, so I decided to take some video footage of a few of the new Mimobots at the booth.

Check out our video footage below and a couple pictures of one of my favorite Mimobots that I ended up taking home with me during NYCC! There’s also a sheet that I found at their booth that has a gallery of a bunch of the different Mimobots - there’s a ton! Which is your favorite geek chiq USB?

Back in the olden days of video gaming, only a few retailers sold games, the internet was a glimmer in Al Gore’s eye, and so if you wanted to ensure you’d be playing that hot new release, you waltzed over to your local game store and put down some of your hard earned cash towards the next big game. However, with modern supply and an almost infinite fountain from which you can purchase new (or used) games, pre-ordering has gone from a necessity to a luxury.

Compared to our previous giveaway this one is just a biiiit easier. And this time we have more prizes to give away. Spawn Kill is giving away six codes of the recently re-launch of Sonic Adventure. I know all the fans are anticipating Sega’s upcoming launch of the all-new Sonic 4 (which is soon!), but Sonic Adventure should be a nice, relaxing large chunk of time until then. Whether you’re cruising through as Sonic, Tails, Amy, Big the Cat or even Metal Sonic - you can always break for some time to care for and pit your badass dragon Chao up for some challenges.

We got our Western taste buds whet with E3 announcements, but Tokyo Game Show for a lot of us is the home of all the strange, quirky, and unique Japanese game announcements. You know, where we sit and hope and pray they get localized. Or even when some of our favorite big franchises get a newborn addition to the franchise a la the latest announcement of the new Devil May Cry reboot by Ninja Theory. What have you heard so far that has you the most excited? And what would be your dream TGS announcement to hear come out of this year’s show? Even if it’s extremely unlikely - we want to know! Seven Awful Game Mechanics

Posted by Kevin "K-Tuck" Tucker on September 14th, 2010

Gamers have come to recognize many different elements of video games as simple staples. We know we need to be able to save at some point. We know that being unable to heal our characters would make most games brutally challenging. We also, every now and then, want to find a bunch of hidden items. Still, the implementation of such nigh-necessities has actually become a bit of a problem. When games are so ultra-realistic that we are truly meant to be lost within them, stumbling upon a giant glowing save point can be an almost jarring experience. Listed below are seven frustrating game mechanics that ought to be refined or removed.

Who would’ve ever thought “cloud” gaming was so close to reality? Yeah, Steam allows us to purchase games on the fly, but imagine something better. Is it too good to be true? It’s hard to say. I never thought I’d see Mass Effect on the iPhone, after all. Since its release, OnLive has gotten a ton of attention—while there has been a group of naysayers clinging to the very idea of Onlive, some people have been very happy with the outcome.

Is it a “game changer,” per se? I must admit, it has the potential to be and this is because CEO Steve Perlman has turned the OnLive client into more than just a way to hand over your money: it’s a very socially interactive platform, with more than enough incentives to quit console gaming all together while still holding tight to your controller. It’s a scary leap riddled with a kink or five, but now that the WiFi beta is set to start in mid-September, I’m wondering just how far OnLive will take us.

You all know that cosplay is a huge part with the gaming, anime, comic and overall geek culture. There are conventions in every region of the country, as well as all over the world to give us a chance to showcase our hard work and love of the culture, as well as an opportunity to just be who you want to be without the judgment of your everyday peers. The amount of hard work, money, time and detail put into these costumes is mind-blowing. Sometimes people get it to a T, and are willing to wear and walk around in the most uncomfortable things for the love of both their work and the games they emulate. (That Left 4 Dead Tank cosplay above does not look fun to wear all day!)

So what I want to know is, how many of our readers out there are cosplayers and who have you cosplayed as? Do you make your own costume? Picked it up online?
