Blame Halo 2 for Xbox Live’s 100 Friends Limit
Posted by IcyStorm on August 10th, 2009
G4’s TheFeed reports that although the current Xbox Live architecture could easily support more than one hundred friends, Halo 2 prevents Microsoft from increasing that limit. Halo 2 cannot support more than one hundred, and well, it seems that people are still playing it online even as Halo 3 has been released for nearly two years with Halo 3: ODST right around the corner.
The post at TheFeed says that it’s unknown exactly when Halo 2 support will be discontinued but thinks that if enough gamers tell Microsoft to abandon Halo 2, it could happen in the near future.

I can’t imagine that many people are still playing it, but I suppose there are enough that MS hasn’t shut down the servers yet. It IS Halo, after all, but come on guys, time to upgrade!
I would rather they shut down the Halo 3 servers so everyone can go back to playing Halo 2. also who needs 100 ppl on their friends list… I only play online with the same group of 10-15 people so i see no reason to have so many ppl on the list. plus all the ppl getting on and off xbl all the time would annoy the hell out of me.
