Retro City Rampage Coming to XBLA Summer 2011
When Retro City Rampage was first revealed, it was slated to be a WiiWare exclusive. However, due to various issues, the game was delayed, and is now not expected to release for Nintendo’s service until Fall 2011. Today, however, developer Brian Provinciano revealed to Destructoid that the game will be arriving Summer 2011 on Xbox Live Arcade, several months before its WiiWare release.
While this news is definitely disappointing for Nintendo fans, it is encouraging for those who own a 360 for several reasons, one of which means the wait for this impressive retro homage is a little bit shorter. However, as recompense for the wait, both versions will include more content than originally planned, including additional missions and playable characters. The 360 version will also feature widescreen support, video replays, challenge modes, and a character creator mode - all features not available in the Nintendo version.
Before Nintendo fanboys get all up-in-arms, Provinciano wants everyone to know that part of the reason for the move to XBLA was financial, as he has been doing this project on his own, 100% self-funded, and things were beginning to be tight for the one-man developer. According to Destructoid, he’s cashing in the rest of his savings in order to continue working on the game, so cut the guy some slack.
By releasing the game on XBLA, Provinciano hopes to increase sales which means less burger-flipping for him and more game playing for you in the future.
Spawn Kill will keep you up-to-date on RCR as it develops.
