Namco Bandai Reports Net Loss for First Half of 2010
Compared to the report of last year of the same time frame, Namco Bandai’s net loss for the first half of 2010 was an improvement. The net loss was tallied at 1.93 billion yen, or $24 million, which is a major gap from the previous 6.04 billion yen, or $74 million net loss. This was thanks to an increase in sales of roughly 174 billion yen, or $2.3 billion. Their latest game, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, fell 200,000 copies shy of the forecast 1 million copies expected to be shipped.
The report also stated that Tekken 6 was the best-selling title with 1.07 million copies shipped to the United States. Despicable Me and Dead to Rights: Retribution rounded out the top three best sellers of the company. Japan was the highest-grossing territory with nearly 10 million units of software shipped with the United States close behind with 7.3 million shipments.
Breaking the report down further, we learn that hand-held gaming made up two thirds of the shipments. The DS managed to secure 2.04 million games sold. The PS3 had 1.83 million, followed by the PSP with just over 1 million sold and the Xbox 360 just under a million with 980,000 sold. The Wii came in with the low amount of 803,000 games sold.
This report comes after the news regarding the layoff of 90 US employees in the attempt to re-organize the company by combining the mobile and online game businesses into one division.
