New Xbox 360 Dashboard Rollout

Xbox Live’s resident know it all Major Nelson went over some of the new Xbox 360 dashboard features that people will be getting with the update today. The update looks like it includes everything but the kitchen sink, with changes being made to a vast majority of the current features. Anyone who turns on their internet capable Xbox 360 today will be asked to update their system, with a wait time (depending on their internet connection) of 5-10 minutes for the install to finish.

Below you’ll find some of the key changes the update brings:

  • ESPN on Xbox LIVE - 3,500 Sporting Events A Year with access more than 3,500 live and on-demand global sporting events from ESPN3.com a year, including college basketball, college football and college bowl games, MLB, NBA, international soccer and more. If you want to share the big game experience with other ESPN on XBL, you’re in luck because they’ve also included voice chat.
  • Improved Voice Chat Codec - The new codec should give voice chatters a much clearer sound, and solve some of the “noise” associated with the current one.
  • Improved Wireless Network - When trying to connect to a wireless network you can now see a list of all the wireless networks within range when you go into network settings. From there, you can select a new network or further configure the network you’re connected to.
  • (lastly, the one I’m the most excited for) Netflix Search Feature - Experience a streamlined search function making it much easier to find the movies and TV shows you want to watch.

You can find a full list of features and their descriptions here at Major Nelson’s blog.

I’m finding info/confirmation/Pre-load screens loading very slow with this new loading twirly icon. It’s not down to internet connection as I have a 19mb connection. Zune Music is a rip of having to subscribe or pay to view music videos. Also takes absolute ages loading between each screeen….. What a nightmare is xbox live turning out like Sony’s Playstation Network? Slow and annoying !!!

  • Drachaus says:

@WhackyRoady - Yeah I noticed that too, BUT as time has gone on today it’s gotten better. I wonder if in fact it’s just a glitch in “The Matrix”. The zune thing has always been a rip in my opinion, which is why I don’t use it. As for the loading, I’m seeing no problems whatsoever. What kind of xbox do you have?

@Player1 They’re supposedly staggering the updates, give it a bit and if you don’t see one contact xbox support.

@B00b34r I’ve had a few friends glitch out and lose friends. It supposedly fixes itself, but again like I told Player1 if it doesn’t…contact support.

FYI: Support is dealing with A LOT of volume right now, so there may be a bit of a hold time/wait time to get a response from @XboxSupport on twitter.

@Drachus I’ve got the new xbox slim, Zune has slightly improved on loading, but still getting slow loading between download confirmation screens when either selecting to download trial/full games or even video clips on marketplace etc. Hopefully this will improve or hopefully a fix to clear this issue if it is a known problem.

    • Drachaus says:

Oh yeah, the download loading screens are terrible. I think that has a lot to do with the added congestion from this update XBL is experiencing. Give it a day or two.

If it isn’t just a clog in the tubes, hopefully they’ll release a patch to fix it.

  • Srossthehulk75 says:

For some reason its taking me forever just to download a tv show its taken an hour and it’s only half way done usually the whole download only take a couple of mins.

If you look closely, it seems like they re-worked the proportions of the Avatars too, a little more realistic, and sort of creepy…
