Counter-Strike: Source Released for Mac; Game Updated

While Counter-Strike: Source players on Windows receive a major update that adds new features and fixes several bugs, Mac OS X users are finally able to play the popular FPS without switching to Microsoft’s OS. Valve released Counter-Strike: Source for Mac OS X today, which is priced at $6.80 on Steam for two days before it returns to its normal price of $19.99. Windows users also get to enjoy something new with the update, which includes Steam achievements, player stat tracking, an updated scoreboard, a domination and revenge system, a death cam, and various bug fixes and engine updates that bring new life to the game.
It seems that Valve wants to bring gamers back to CS:S with these new features. The stat tracking system is similar to what Valve has done with Team Fortress 2 and the Left 4 Dead series, with individual weapon accuracy and kill counters, match summaries, and more. There are also 144 achievements included (although I think players that have been consistently playing since 2004 should automatically get all of these achievements). The new scoreboard adds avatar pictures and MVP icons. At the end of every round, an MVP award will be given to the… MVP. A cinematic death cam (which can be toggled on and off by server admins) is also in-place by default, so you can know where that camper when he kills you.
And of course, there are some enhancements and fixes, such as multicore rendering support, a better flashlight effect, a default server tick rate of 66, and improvements to ladders.
Counter-Strike: Source is available for Mac and Windows on Steam today. If you already have a Windows copy, you automatically get the Mac copy. And vice versa.
