Quick Hit Football continues to grow and change and in the past few weeks they have added new play modes, a new NFL super star and head coach, and have expanded their playbook. For those of you who don’t know what Quick Hit Football is, it is a free-to-play web-based football game that gives players the opportunity to be a Coach/GM and in a MMO style improve their team. Our last conversation with the Quick Hit team we covered the new interface and some new features of the game. In yet another update the developers are giving gamers new modes called Draft Showdown and Rookie Cup to go along with the Coaches’ Challenge. A new Playbook Shop has been added where players can purchase new plays and the team has also recruited Randy Moss as an in-game player.

Draft Showdown is a new mode in which players will take their team and challenge four teams stacked with some of the best draft picks in the history of the NFL. Each round will feature a standout quarterback, Vinny Testaverde, Randall Cunningham, Dan Fouts and Warren Moon. Every win nets bonus coaching points with more coaching points given as you progress through the round but each round will be a tougher opponent. This new mode allows Quick Hit Football players to experience the game in a different way by testing their coaching abilities against some very talented QBs. Plus this is a great way to get Coaching Points to upgrade your players.

The Rookie Cup is the other new single player mode that is built to ease new players into the game. You will get a chance to play through a series of four games with different scenarios. Each of the first three scenarios will have you playing with a lead until the final round which you will play a new game. This should give new players an excellent opportunity to learn the game without getting beat badly by the computer. Using the Game Mode tech Quick Hit Football is able to tweak the game by adding these scenarios. In the future this tech can allow them to create sudden death modes or iron man matches with five minute quarter games.

Here’s how the Rookie Cup will work:

  • Game 1 - The One-Quarter Freebie: In this first challenge you’ll take over coaching duties with a 10-point lead in the 4th Quarter of the game. Just hold on for the win!
  • Game 2 - The Two-Quarter Crunch: Here you’ll have a 7-point lead at the half. All you have to do is keep the lead and win the game.
  • Game 3 - The Three-Quarter Face-off: Now you’ll start with a slim 3-point lead in the 2nd Quarter and have to beat the Benchwarmers in three Quarters of gameplay!
  • Game 4 - The Four-Quarter Fight: Now it’s the big time - play a full game against the Benchwarmers and capture the Rookie Cup!

Like most football titles that have been released in recent years, Quick Hit Football doesn’t have the NFL license but that doesn’t stop them from having NFL players. The most recent addition to the Quick Hit team is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL today, Randy Moss. Not only is Moss the first player to be added to the “Starters of 2010” team but he is also lending his expertise to the development team.

“Quick Hit is a unique opportunity for me to engage with football fans,” said Moss. “I’m excited to be one of the first ‘Starters’ for 2010 and look forward to working with the Quick Hit team in my advisory role with the company.”

Having star players like Randy Moss is nice but coaching plays a big role in the game and they continue to attract legendary coaches to Quick Hit. Joining the Quick Hit Football coaching lineup is Coach Vermeil, former head coach of the Eagles, Chiefs and Rams. Coach Vermeil adds to the Coach’s Challenge which is a punch out style campaign mode where you compete against former pro coaches along with some fantasy coaches. To go along with the new head coach is a new way for you to coach your team with the Playbook Manager and Playbook Store.

For the first time in Quick Hit Football you can now manage your playbook and purchase new plays. Playbook Manger will now allow you to sort and evaluate your playbook before you go into a game. Players can view stats for each play which includes how many times that play was called, how many yards it averaged, number of first downs and much more. As any head coach knows your playbook must take advantage of your team’s strongest points and now you can make sure your playbook does just that.

If you are tired of running the same plays you can head over to the Playbook Store to unlock more plays using your coaching points. Each time you level up you will unlock more plays but now you can go through the large amount of plays and pick some that can help your team. Here are some more details about the new playbook feature:

PLAYBOOK UNLOCKING

  • The Quick Hit Playbook has been expanded with 150+ new plays, including the 3-4 Defense, the Wildcat Offense, Onside Kicks and other highly requested plays.
  • New Coaches will now begin the game with a reduced playbook of 18 total plays and unlock access to new plays via Leveling Up and the Coaches’ Challenge.
  • Veteran Coaches will keep access to all their current plays, as well as gain access to plays new to the 1.7 update.

THE PLAYBOOK SHOP

  • Coaches now have the ability to purchase plays unlocked via Leveling Up and Challenge Rewards.
  • Plays can be individually purchased with CP or at a discount as complete sets.
  • To access the Playbook Shop, click the “Get New Plays” link in the Shop tab of the Top Nav.

Quick Hit Football is constantly growing and improving. In such a short amount of time they have attracted over a million gamers and have brought in all-star coaches and players. With all the new playbook and gameplay features Quick Hit offers a football experience you really can’t get anywhere else. If you always wanted to feel like you are coaching an NFL team you owe it to yourself to check out Quick Hit Football. To learn more about the recent updates check out the developer’s diary here.

So this is all free and you use in-game currency to purchase new plays and whatnot? This is a REALLY extensive online football game...of course I've not seen many but there's plenty to do, it seems.
