Modern Warfare 2 was a huge success but many people including myself felt that it didn’t live up to the quality that its predecessor brought. Maybe Infinity Ward has been listening. They have decided to add 2 returning maps from COD4 in the upcoming DLC. Crash and Overgrown are the two remakes gamers will see in the DLC being called “Stimulus Package”. The add-on will also include 3 brand new maps Bailout, Storm and Salvage. The name of the DLC is actually quite fitting because it comes with a very hefty price tag of $15 or 1200 Microsoft points. Okay, I know, it’s only $5 more but seeing as there are only 3 new maps I can’t help but feel the extra charge was only added because Activition and Infinity Ward know people are going to buy it so why not try to add to their already fat pockets right?

According to 1Up.com the price was announced by Robert Bowling on the Major Nelson’s weekly podcast. Even though their competition, DICE’s Battlefield Bad Company 2, will be releasing a free map pack on the same day, I can’t see IW or Activision backing down from this price. The maps in MW2 don’t bother me as much as the unbalanced perks do but having the fan favorite Crash and Overgrown could add some enjoyment to the game, if it plays well with all the new perks and kill streaks. The map pack is due out March 30th on the Xbox 360 but no dates have been set for PS3 or PC but I assume that it will release on the PS3 on April 1st.

I guess we can all argue till steam gushes from our earholes, it won't change the fact that the map pack is $15, we have a choice either put up with it and stump up $15 or simply wait till the price goes down in say 5-6 months. I personally don't like it either but will inevitably though reluctantly pay the $15 and hope one day I may visit the activision headquarters to give them my views on excessive map pack charges etc etc, the personal touch is usually more effective than any text!!
  • PlayingMantis
Wow, never seen so many comments on one article here on SK. I think the price is ridiculous, when you consider that the World at War Map Packs included a new Nazi Zombie level with each pack. I liked the expanded perk system and graphics of MW2, but that's about the only advantage it has over COD4.
  • Guest
First why doesn't IW or Activision unlock the other 4 game modes that are already on the disk?
(Global Thermonuclear War, Arena, One Flag CTF, and VIP, youtube or google them if you don't believe me) I think before they release new maps they should release those game modes considering you can hack them because they are ALREADY ON THE DISK. The maps MIGHT be worth 15 dollars if you play it that much, personally I think BC2 is more fun, but why charge money for DLC if they made sooo much money from the game itself? And why do the big shots that made the game need anymore money? All the people that bought the game (myself included) deserve some stuff for free. Maybe charge for new content after a year but months after the release they still have plenty of money from the game. And that Zombie Mod thing Jae mentioned is probably a load of BS. There is no way they would copy Treyarch since they are so much more successful. This is only my opinion and I know there is going to be people that don't like it but oh well, I think its probably the most reasonable thing on this forum.
  • ironredman66
I wood like to know if theres a wepons pack comming out and when.
  • Jae192
    Hey Guys,
Listen there is a VERY VERY good reason why it is $5. When it comes out I suggest you all buy it. I can guarentee you won't be sorry. I can't say because i am under word of oath.
  • Rob
So are they going to fix the 100s of bugs this game has? Now that might be worth 15 bucks. But, no I doubt it. Just more dribble, a shiny bobble to make us think it is a good deal. Download content is not worth the bytes it takes up. Give me a tangible real product and not some DRM locked to one user BS. I personally suggest NO one buys it, but that's just me.

Better games are out there. Far less buggy games are out there. Games you can play with your friends the first 10 times you try to hook up can even be found out there. I played it, liked it, then learned to hate it. Far, Far too many problems for a title with that type of budget.
  • TheHerp
I agree. there are lots of shooters out there that have gotten much more support from the devs than IW has given to MW2. Devs like to say they like to listen to the community but not too many of them show that they are listening. Maybe spend less time making map packs to make more money and more time fixing the bugs like the connection issue, commando and the terrible spawns.
  • Your mother
    Shut up!!!!
  • ThatGuy
So what you are but aren't sayin Jae is that there are not only 5 maps in this pack but also a few other added bonuses. Maybe new callsigns, or even new killstreaks?!?!?!? That would be cool.
  • stephen
I have heard speculation about new spec ops missions, new camo, and maybe new camo(gold and lepoard)?? But im not sure, so dont take my word for it.
  • stephen
I remember now what i ment was a new game mode. I think its called Global Thermonuclear War? or something along those lines. There are a few videos of this game mode being played, wether they are real and not edited I dont know. but here is a link to a couple.

You people are insane. If you think it's a ripoff, don't buy it. And as far as Valve and other companies releasing free updates, it's because that's the only way they can sell a game or stay in business. The COD franchise owns game consoles right now. They're the NFL of video games. Same as Sunday Ticket is around $360 and NHL Ice is $140. People wouldn't pay for Valve updates. And people won't pay $360 for Hockey, even though a hockey season in 86 games and NFL is only 17. It's the way of the world. If it's #1, your gonna pay for it. If you don't like it, too bad. Nothing you can do about it. It's good business.
  • Mr.Kenny
"And as far as Valve and other companies releasing free updates, it's because that's the only way they can sell a game or stay in business"

*_* Too much ignorance in one sentence to even respond to.
  • Jae192
So to answer all your questions. There will be new add ons other then the 5 maps but its not what you guys think. There are not going to be new Callsigns this time no camos, nor Global Thermalnueclear War, none of that. There will be a Weapon Pack being released within the next 6 months. But the reason why the Stimulus Pack is costing $5 extra is because they are realeasing the Zombie Mod. There are going to be 2 new maps and 2 new game game modes just for it. 1 map will be the Airport and the other is going to be a new one jsut for zombies. The 2 game modes are going to be the original Wave Killing from WaW. then the second is still under debate. But 2 possibilitys are A) either a 4v4 Timed Kill fest which ever Team of 4 kills the most wins. Then the Ssecond (which i hope happens) is a Sniper Defense. You would have to defend hordes of zombies from crossing a line using ONLY a sniper rifle. Then, When they pass it then you can only use a hand gun aand a knife. the cool thing about this is that will more then likely be a new Sniper Rifle introduced. That Sniper rifle would be in Multiplayer but the only way you can unlock it is by reaching a certaint level in that game mode. So guys this map pack is definately worth it.
  • stephen
oops said new camo twice. lol
  • christhomas1
And btw mr. kenny. Your a fucking moron. "Anyone who doesn't believe what i'm saying either works for IW or is a mindless consumer? So let me get this straight, when the gas prices went up by the dollars a few years back you just sayed "Fuck it, i'm not going to buy it. I'm putting my foot down to the corporate giants and anyone that doesn't listen to me are idiots". Listen to yourself. Your a tool, and I guarantee your either A) Kid living off parents allowance or B) Doesn't make enough money to support yourself let alone your games.

And I laugh at your MoH nonsense.
  • Mr.Kenny
Richard long in disguise? or maybe his fuck buddy? anyway, When are we going to stop comparing DLC to other things to make our points across? Gas is a really valuable resource which provides me with transportation to work/school and wherever else. There is no comparison to gaming besides, if speculators or whomever make the price of gas go high for a months, so be it. At least i know it will go back down and it has been for over a year now, So i don't know what was your point there(and no i dont want to get into a political or gas price argument). DLC usually stays around the same price for months or even years. Do i really have to answer if i have a job? i own all 3 consoles and i build my own gaming rig, so il just leave your shit for brains to figure that one out....*sigh*

Second, why do you laugh at my MoH "nonsense"? either you A) never played MoH for PC or B) You got stuck playing the shit console version of MoH pacific assault (or any console MoH game) and therefore drew assumptions that the whole series must've been shit. Or maybe even C) just dont know shit about gaming which im guessing you dont, just like your buddy dick.

MoH was an amazing WWII title back in the day, it was out years before CoD and the gameplay was incredible, best of its time for a WWII game. Single player was amazing, it was like playing (insert favorite WWII movie) and the online was addicting. So i don't know why you doubt the new MoH potential. This just proves your ignorance.

    Troll harder next time.
  • evan
its not that big of a deal really.
if you like the game, you go buy the map pack.
if you dont want to, then you dont buy it.
    problem solved.
  • christhomas1
I'm with Richard Long on this one. I think your all cheap asses. Fork out the $15 for 5 good maps that took developers months to make. Suck it up and pay the damn money that your going to pay anyway.

You people are just plain stupid, cry some more maybe someone will actually give a damn.

    Cheap asses.
  • Sean
    Way to be a sheep.

So when they start ramping up game prices to $80 just for a higher profit margin, you'll just ignore it and pay the price anyway?

I think I slightly envy that you must have more money than sense, but the sensible part of me knows your just a fool:

These maps DID NOT take Infinty Ward MONTHS to make, the reason they only are coming out out now is because Activision have made them a TIMED RELEASE. They know that now the people have been playing the game for months, they are getting bored and crave some new material. It's just a tried and tested hook to ensure that people will buy the DLC.

I love also how you just assume they are "good" maps without having even played them yet. Lest we forget the woeful map pack IW released for the original Modern Warfare?

    I rest my case.
  • TMFH
    fuck cod4 maps retarded
  • Mr.Kenny
    1) How about we don't buy the DLC at all? I think this is the best solution to this. (I didnt even buy modern warshit2 so its not a problem personally)
    2) Richard Long has obviously been indoctrinated by corporatism so lets just ignore him. In fact he may actually be a troll.
    3) Yea.. $15 dollars isnt much, heck its just 5 more dollars then usual DLC. Hmm then 6 month down the road, Infinity shit release more map packs for just 20 bucks. Fuck it, just 5 more dollars then last map pack right? and before we know it, its going to cost 30, as much as a damn expansion pack if we consumers keep buying into this nonsense
    4) The new medal of honor is going to kill this game, i can already see it coming.

My 2 cents, anyone who disagrees either works with IW or is a mindless consumer.
  • Bonafide
I stopped playing MW2 on PC a few months ago. Its an unbalanced clusterfuck that IW can not be bothered to fix. And dont get me started on dedicated servers.
  • Chuck norris
i think thats awsum and that its like 5 maps for 1200 MSP can't waint it is ussally 3 maps for 800 each
  • Rhinovirus
While comparing the Price of the Map pack to other life things (the movies, a CD or two :D) is a fair gambit, try comparing it to the game itself.

its a third of the price i paid for MW2. and more importantly we are only getting 5 maps (normally worth it) but these are two maps which have undergone a visual re-vamp ( Ctrl C, Ctrl V for the win!)

and three brand new maps, likely cut right out of the campaign mode and tweaked for the multiplayer goodness

im not actually complaining, but thats definatly not worth 1200 MSP. thats an 800 jobbie. the fact they insist on raising the price because they sold elevnty billion copies to make more money from people?

did they spend the profit margin on an explosive Platinum Lifesize replica of Gaz? hmm?!

Damn i want one of those...
  • Coal Andrew
The only reason anyone feels this is outrageous is because we previously only paid $10 for them if it had been $15 all along there wouldn't be this huge argument over it. Also the map pack are set to release at the end of April for non-xbox users
  • ThaKrazyOne 505
Wow. All of you are very cheap. You spend more than this at the movies and get only TWO HOURS of "entertainment." For $15 I'm going to get five new maps, two of which I cannot wait to play again? You know how many hours of fun I am going to have??? Way more than two hours, and way more than all the cheap ass people on this site.
  • Sean
Most of those movies cost a hell of a lot more to produce than to make a couple of add-on maps that they probably had already developed prior to the game being released, but just didn't make the final cut, plus two revamps that would have taken less than a day to recreate.

You are forgetting that you already paid a price for the original game that was well above the average, and purely done because they knew that most people would buy it thanks to its excellent prequel.

$15 for this half-assed add-on? That's the equivalent of Battlefield:1943 which was a brand new game with a new game engine developed for it.

This is Activision showing themselves for what they are. I pity Infinity Ward for being wrapped up with such an image destroying, money grabbing, publishing company.
  • -Unknown-
    I HATE THE PRICE..
    1200 microsoft points..
    WTF thats is like $15

and guys shut up.. MW2 is for running noobs only.. play BC2for a real shooter experience..
  • koger
yes the extra five dollers is getting to me lol but im not gonna complain about it. true paying more than the normal price is gonna upset everybody but hey they are bringing back 2 good maps and 3 new ones i personaly dont mind the extra 5 dollers this will be my first map pack i purchase for my ps3.

if i had a 360 i would mabey complain only because i would be paying to play online but knowing how i dont pay all because i have a ps3 i can dish out an extra five buks
  • David Stewart
I don't have anything to add because I only put about 15 hours or less into the game, but I just wanted to insert my hot meaty comment into this steaming pile of epic threadiness.
  • Coop
The only question I have is will there be more map packs in another 6 months? I hope so it would be nice to keep a game going with new material so I don't have to go out and pay $60 on another game.
  • Jae192
There will be more content later on. IW promised ATLEAST 2 map packs. According to one of my sources that work under PSN, there is supposed to be a Zombie Mode for Modern Warfare 2. There is supposed to be 2 modes for it. 1 is where you defend an area then move to the next one to defend it. Then another is just last as long as you can like in WaW. When this will be released is unknown though.
  • Jae192
After reading almost all of these comments, I think that Richard Long has got the best of ideas all in all. Here is is teaching you guys to quit bawling over $15 which (if you have a job) could make easily within a few hours work. The only real problem is not the fact that there are old maps but its the fact that it is being released for the Xbox360 sooner then the PS3. Now the reason for that is that the PS3 is a different technology then the 360 so they have to recode. But Listen, JUST because YOU don't like Overgrown and Crash Doesn't mean EVERYONE does. I, for one, love those maps. Those were my 2 favorite maps. Especially, overgrown due to Private Match games such as border patrol. But, when the Map Pack eventually comes out for the PS3 I will happily go to the back and by a Playstation card for it. There is nothing wrong with the Old School. Has no one ever heard the saying "The Old School is the New School."

Either Way, yes it can be a rip-off to those children still living at home with thier parents still relying on allowances for their every last dying need. Guess What, we have ALL gone through that. So, a quote from one of my favorite movies. "Nut Up or Shut Up" If you can't deal with the fact that you have to pay a little extra money to HELP the other employees at IW then please stop posting comments on forums about how 'Bull-shit' this is. Why don't we all prove John Locke right? He said that Human Nature is Self-LESS not Selfish. Meaning We Help out people not think of ourselves all the time. By paying those 5 extra measely dollars you are helping the empolyees at IW continue to gain paychecks to help thier familys and continue giving SELFISH brats like most of you the conteent you want. Good Day People
  • Alex
Its ÂŁ10 people who have Mw2 should be able to buy it, the game was ÂŁ45, and the console was ÂŁ100+ its just kids crying about it being ÂŁ10 because they want to go spend it on chocolate...

btw jae im not replying to you, just clicked reply because I couldn't write anything otherwise
  • cheaperisbetter
    Damn republican
  • Jae192
Yes I am a Republican, But what does that have to do with ANYTHING of what I said? We aren't talking about people and what goverment they are under, we're talking a game. So instead of making remakes in attempt to say it like its a bad thing, why don't you start talking about the topic instead of being a brat and wasting comment space.
BTW, I think you are just jealous that we are the most Powerful country in the world.
  • TheHerp
Don’t bring that shit here! And if you think the extra $5 is to help IW and their employees then you are naive! Its all going to the pockets of top 1%. I know a lot of people who work for game companies and do you think they get extra money because the game does well? Nope! Do you think they see any money from DLC? Nope. That DLC would sell just as much if not more it was $10 or $5 but that wouldn't matter to anyone but the higher ups in the company. There’s no Trickle Down or bonuses. The only thing their employees get from DLC is the fact that they have a job working on that DLC until the DLC is finished That’s it! But even if it was free, which they could do with all the money they got, they would still have their jobs. Just like Burnout Paradise when they released Free DLC for full year and even after they started charging they continued their dlc support. The biggest problem is like i said already, Map Rotation. How would you feel if you paid $15 for new maps that you only saw once every couple of nights. The thing with the COD4 Maps is how do you even know if it will play the same with the new perks, it probably won't be as good of a map, that along with the rotation problems is a big reason why i think it's a lot to ask for DLC. Not because i cant afford it, which is an ignorant statement by someone who doesn't understand our economic situation. Don't think that your money spent on DLC goes to anyone but the top percent in the company and if you think anyones paycheck below them is going to change because how successful it is then you are spending your money for the wrong reasons.
  • Jae192
First off, I never said they will get bonuses to their paychecks. I said that they will recive a constant amount of pay for their hard work. The company has to pay their employees some how and IW chose to do it by charging for DLC. So before you go and trying to call me Ignorant/Naive/Stupid or whatever maybe you should read the context of a story. Or are they not teaching that to you in High School? Second of all, It doesn't matter if I won't see the maps only once a night. The fact is im still seeing something new! Doesn't matter if I'll see bail out once one night then 30 times another the fact is ill still see it. Third, I know the perks will change the gameplay. Better or worse, either way its still bringing back some old favorites of mine and alot of others. Also, I said that I play some Private Match games, one of which is called Border Patrol which works best on the map Overgrown. So even if the map sucks online I can still have fun with my clan mates in a private match when we need a break from Grind leveling. Lastly, I am aware of the economic stature of our country. I know certaint people can't afford it. But if they have such a hard time spending an extra $5 dollars on video games then they shouldn't even be bothering with video games at all. So, TheHerp before you go and try to make assumptions of me and how much I do or don't watch the news maybe you should get to know me first. Try being a little more optimistic and less pessimistic and bringing everyone down because of what is wrong with you. There is a word for you and alot of the other people that constantly put people down to make themselves feel better. That word is "White Trash" you learn something new everyday :)
  • TheHerp
"The company has to pay their employees some how and IW chose to do it by charging for DLC." "By paying those 5 extra measely dollars you are helping the empolyees at IW continue to gain paychecks to help thier familys"

Obviously you don't read what you write yourself. What other assumptions can you take from this other than the fact that you are saying buying the DLC will allow IW to pay the employees. That's simply not true. They can use the millions of dollars they made off of selling the $60 game, how about that money. Going by your logic, How did Burnout Paradise pay their employees if they released free DLC, how is DICE going to pay the Bad Company 2 people when their Free DLC comes out? Activision and IW don't have to charge for their DLC. It comes down to the Top percent and how much money they want to make from it.

Its not about being optimistic or pessimistic at all, it's about facts. you charge the extra $5 for a map pack or even PSN or XBLA games and it changes things. $15 used to be a lot for a downloadable game and now there are some that come out at $20. see where I'm going with this?

being a Republican i can see how hypocrisy escapes you and it shows every time you write something lol. if i'm bringing down people with what i'm saying then idk what to tell you, maybe you shouldn't take it to heart so much? hahaha
  • Jae192
Yes, I do know they have the money to pay for their employees. Yes, I am aware of the money other Games Such as BF:BC2 and Burnout are giving the free. I said that SOME companys chose this option. I didn't say all companys use DLC to pay their employees. IW could be using their Multimillions they made from just the game itslef to be making their next Modern Warfare. Which I doubt will happen from the outbreaks that are happen and from the Firing of West and that other man. But, Lets subtract the factor of paying Employees. Either way $5 Is not that much money even in our current economy. People just need to quit their crying and shut up and deal with it. If they aren't going to buy the DLC because its overprice then why are they crying about it so damn much. All these High/Middle Schoolers need to quit bawling their eyes out and find a way to make money. Also, FYI. You did hurt my feelings. i took it to heart. I am crying like tommorow. I am crying like when my mother and father died. Please, Im not going to take something to heart from some 'White Trash' High schooler.
  • Richard Long
It's a little off topic, but I'll address it.

I know earlier you were also trying to insinuate that I am a republican, with your rupert murdoch quip, but you're slightly off base, most people who know me would probably call me a socialist, and not in the pejorative sense that it is often used now when referring to anyone who doesn't subscribe to the strict "i've got mine, screw you" attitude that defines current american right wing politics.
  • 2605dn
nobody here's a republican, they aren't allowed on the real internet.
  • killerkitten14
i LOVED overgrown. and crash was pretty good too. i think it's pretty pathetic that people can't just pay the $15 and get the hell over it. FOR GOODNESS SAKE PEOPLE ARE BUYING AVATAR CLOTHING!?!?!?!? who the hell pays for avatar clothes?! and not to mention there's a zillion other things people pay for on 360 that makes ZERO sense. MW2 is an amazing game. the multiplayer is tons of fun. and personally, i loved COD4 just as much. and to bring back 2 maps from it makes it that much better. just think, those maps with all the care packages & different guns? soooo much fun! i'll wreck some people. (:

and about the whole economy thing...well, personally i think that paying a little bit of extra money to get lost in a video game for a few hours & forget about how CRAPPY the US is getting is fine by me. video games are a type of release for anyone who's actually old enough to deal with the way the economy is. so keep complaining about how horrible $5 extra is & see if anyone want's to make any video games for whiny customers.

personally, super excited about having this map pack. (:

  • def0rmography
haha finally someone with sense...its sort of obvious, if people don't want to pay $15 then don't buy it..I personally will, I can't wait to get them....I don't care about the price, an extra $5..well ÂŁ5 for me seeing as I'm enlgish ^_^ so anywho yeah ÂŁ5 whats that? less than an hours work for me lol but I agree with killerkitten people do pay for avatar games and avatar clothes and they are rather pointless o_O 5 new maps, yes 2 of them are old but its going to be fun going back to them with the new weapons and killstreaks and destroying people ^_^ I'll be buying this map pack the second its out and it'll be worth every penny...or cent...or ruble...or whatever ^_^
  • killerkitten14
    THANK YOU!

i'm glad somebody else on this website isn't completely dumb. if you don't like the game, don't get the map pack. if you do, just get it. if you can't afford an extra $5 or ÂŁ5 then you shouldn't be worried about buying anything to do with video games until you figure your life out better, if you can...well by golly GO DO IT.

    it's not brain surgery here.
    seriously.
  • for me to know
the previous person that does not care what it cost but this is just crazy that the maps cost $15 and for COD WAW you got like nine maps for multiplayer and 3 zombies maps that that was right not this that you only get 3 maps. This is just crazy.
  • 2065dn
yeah, but WAW sucked and the zombie maps were dumb.
  • TheHerp
I dont think its too much to ask for them to give us free content seeing as in the last two nights playing MW2 i've played the same 4 maps over and over. we might play one or two maps that are outside of that rotation but that hardly happens. So we pay $15 for this and then how many times will we see it in the rotation? IW has always been terrible with that. At least with WAW they came with a zombie map and treyarch was better about map rotation.
  • sch
This is why I play Mag...lol
    word
  • TheVillan
stimulus package.. stimulate iw and activisions pockets. not ours.. the price of this i am doubting i will buy the map pack.. for a game that mad so much money in the first week of sales it is not like this company needs to dig in our pockets even more..
  • Bull Sheot!
Crap like this makes me want to mod my console and download games. Seriously! Keep it up developers and lets see if you have a job in the next few years. If you not listening to comments like these then we will get our message across to you just like the music industry. It was modders and gamers like me that gave you the idea of DLC in the first place. But you stomped on our rights by isolating yourselves behind a curtain and charging for what should have been free to your loyal customers and now your just getting greedy.

First, if COD was a huge success the developers should offer these maps for free as a way to say thanks to their loyal customers.

Second, the fact that they are not offering them free - fine, but charging an extra $5.00 for old maps is not cool. If I want to play the old maps I'll pop my COD 4 disk in that I paid $75 bucks for.

    GREEDY DIRTY LITTLE BASTAGES!

    Sincerely yours,

    Old School Gamer
  • Richard Long
Nice, finally a well reasoned opinion that takes into account all of the variables.
  • Brian Fredrick Heinrich
$15 dollars is not bad for 5 maps, not at all. All I am hearing on this subject is how Team Fortress 2 has 15 free maps for you, and perfect dark only costs 800 MS points, and Bad Company 2 is so much better.

Modern Warfare 2 has a great multiplayer system and an amazing (easy, but still), campaign. Where as Bad Comapany's multiplayer falls short and has a entertaining campaign, and that about it. Perfect Dark is outdated and worth having in your collection, but unless you are achievement whoring there is no point in going back to her. Team Fortress 2 does not have a huge multiplayer fan base like most people say. The maps are free because Valve realized most of its player where on pc and where going to hack them anyways.

I guarantee most of you have payed for all the halo 3 maps which cost about $4 a piece, and most of the mythic players purchased ODST to get 3 maps that were not available to them. That is a very hefty price for maps.

Then you have to look at the fact that it takes time and labor to make these things, do you think the producers of this stuff want to work for free? I know you don't so why should they.

A ridiculous decision on Activision's behalf, especially when Bad Company 2 is literally giving away DLC from day one, and promising more free content very soon.
  • Peter Draggers
Just to point out what seems like a major misunderstanding in most of the coverage of this "rivalry". Bad Company 2's free DLC does not have any new maps it simply opens 2 gametypes on 2 maps that you already have. It will give players the ability to play Arica Harbor in Conquest mode, as well as Laguna Presa in Rush mode. There is also mention of new camoflage patterns for like 4 guns w/ matching uniforms, but I think that might be pay, its not clear to me. This is in NO WAY equivalent to giving away 5 new maps for free, though everyone seems to equate them.
  • IFUSEEKAMY
the new camo for the gun and uniforms are free they come with the dr pepper promotion
  • STEALTHY
You guys do know that instead of complaining about the game all the time you don't have to play it right? Those of us who love the game are excited to have it come out. Yes its $15 but call of duty WaW was 800 ms point PER map pack and there was 3 of them.. Stop your crying buy the map pack or quit playing the game. People who wine and cry get now where but wrecking games for the rest of us just like when they took the tanks out of WAW.
  • IFUSEEKAMY
yeah but for waw u get maps and nazi zombies so 800ms point is worth it. for mw2 all u get is 3 new maps and 2 old ones, no new spec ops ,no new prestige levels just maps. if it was 5 new maps and new prestige then it would be worth 15
  • ifuseekamysucks
    you get new kill streaks
  • SnakePlissken
Bad Company 2 is so much better!!!!! Period
  • idk
    not really
  • gherkins
    I gotta agree with the people saying that $15 is nothing. A crappy Chili's meal; a movie, popcorn & soda; A dvd of Inglourious Basterds; 1 hour parking in downtown chicago;

I think 3 new maps plus two old ones is worth $15.
  • Richard Long
Damn, I want to go to your theatre! Where I live, its $13 for an adult ticket to a non-matinee show at most of the theatres, add popcorn and a soda and you're at $20. And that's without a date, then you're talking like $36! So people are basically saying that 5 new maps which represent at least dozens of hours of entertainment value, are worth about the same as one 2 hour movie (non-3d of course, thats an extra $4) without any food or beverage (with popcorn and a soda for you and your damn resonably priced theatres, gherkins). And unlike games, movie theatres charge you the same amount regardless of the quality of the entertainment: a ticket to the Oscar winning "Hurt Locker" cost you just as much as the terrible "She's out of my League". Meanwhile, amazon has the good sense to charge you $4 less for the mediocre Battlefield Bad Company 2 than the too many awards to mention Modern Warfare 2.

Also, for the record, this article fails to make clear that the BC2 "map pack" does not have any maps, it simply unlocks existing game types on some maps which previously did not support all game types.
  • Richard Long
how on earth are people complaining about 5 maps for $15? most people have little problem paying $15 for a 10-15 song cd when they only like one or two of the songs, how are 5 maps not worth at least as much as one album, or one mediocre meal at applebees? And I can't believe that people complained so bitterly that the price of a new big-name game has gone up $10 over the last 5 years, would it have helped if they went up $2 a year rather than all at once? I suspect that most of the people complaining are 12 year olds relying on their allowance to buy games, and $10 represents an extra week of saving up.
  • Cracker
    Who Buys Cd's? haha...
  • Rob
At least a CD you could sell it used, when you got tired of it.. Try doing that with a map pack =(

Not worth it the game is broken, period.. Match making is terrible (cant even get into matches with more then 3 friends without spending like half an hour trying to connect everyone in). Cheaters running wild (patches not fixing the problems).. I dumped that game fast(see you can sell used games but not maps, hmmm).. It has issues and will have issues. Not to mention the fact the took out basic features like party chat in between games so when you and your friends do get in different games you cant even figure it out right away...

MAPS are not worth money guys... throw in a map editor and let us make our own. 60 bucks for a game 50 bucks for live and then charge us for maps, I think NOT.
  • Colin
Actually play with a party of at least 4 friends not including myself and get into games within a minute of selecting the game mode. If you think about it your paying $15 for 5 new maps which is 3 dollars a map, but it is also rumored to have new camos, guns and possibly even perks. So in the long run i don't think its a bad deal. If you have a problem with paying for maps you will spend hours playing on switch to battlefield bad company 2 where you will learn the real definition of CAMPERS. I know i will be willing to pay the 5 extra dollars for all the new DLC and i won't complain. Even with the 2 old maps I wont complain because they are fan favorites and also with the different guns, perks, and killstreaks they will be like new. I know most people will end up buying them even though its an "outrage" and this $5 dollar price increase because if their friends get them they wont be able to play together all the time. I make $400 dollars a month but i am paying for college and an appt. so even with the steep price i am will to throw out 5 extra dollars for this gameplay without complaining I mean if you save a quarter a day you will have $5 in 20 days .... its not really a big deal!
  • spiketheflame
AMEN your ass for president!!!!!! .....got my vote .........but (60 bucks for a game 50 bucks for live and then charge us for maps, I think NOT). is by far the most intelligent thing iv heard in ....like since i was born...and then activision fires 2 head people from infinite ward weeks befor they get paid...i smell a take over...activision is not as skilled at making good games as they are at Capitalizing on peoples expectations ...and robbing them of there hard earned money just so they can live the easy life...unlike the game developers at infinite ward who actually strive to make great games i think the 2 guys activision fired and the rest of the iw team should quit and make a studio named Antivision ....god speaking of getting tired of it...I'm so tired of these big shot corparations and the governments of the world bullshitting, lying, cheating and all around just fucking the people over i think it's time for everyone to stand up and show them that we all arn't just fucking dogs that cant stand up and speak for what we all know in our hearts is right or wrong wake up people it's not going away...it's only going to get worse unless we the people stop them....just so tired of it....i know i cant be the only one right?...=(
  • PANICK
That is not cool why would we want to pay for 2 old maps that werent even that good compared to the maps on mw2. This map pack will ruin mw2 all the hype it had and all the fans will all be gone i suggest that they should make more than 3 maps because then later on they are going to make a new map pack and next thing you know it will be more expensive. I dont care about the price but bringing old maps to a new game is just ridiculous it will just ruin mw2. They should have waited longer and made new maps instead of those olds ones it is just going to be the same as playing cod 4 but dumber because you could play in those maps for free. Cod 4 and mw2 were not very cheap games about 75 bucks and then an extra 15 for 3 new maps and 2 old maps, now do you think that is right? I dont even think that it is even worth paying the extra $5. Whats next are they going to add some WaW maps to mw2 thats not right thats how bad that idea is so i think that they should slow down and create better maps that will go good with the game. Like adding more mission maps to the multiplayer maps or add some aliens from avp that would be funner kinda like nazi zombies.
  • johnfuckindoe
the 2 old maps wont really ruin the game because they will be smaller which will reduce campers, but 15 bucks for it is lame, why fuck over your customers when they have trust in you..
  • KTuck
If you look at the game as a whole, though, consider how much content you get for sixty dollars. For fifteen bucks, most people figure they would add on a new game mode, some new missions (maybe some extra Spec Ops missions), or something similar. Maps aren't technically hard to produce relative to the game /game engine itself. Hence, its a high price to pay.

Fifteen dollars can actually get you an entire current-gen game (possibly two), depending on where you shop. When you think about it, there are much more viable gaming purchases to be made than a couple of new maps.
  • TheHerp
I agree! well done Mr. Tuck well done
  • Cheaperisbetter
I agree they are charging the high price because of the hype the game has.
Although its a good thing I can afford the high price with my job flipping burgers and all ; )
  • cheaperisbetter
sounds like you work for a gaming company.Trying to justify paying more for something.
  • Richard Long
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflation there, read about it, I did the hard work of typing it in on wikipedia for you.

And again, i point to the example of an evening at the movies which gherkins brought up. If you live somewhere with reasonably priced theatres, like he does, a 2 hour movie with popcorn and soda is at least $15. In many places (like where I live) its even more expensive. But relatively few people balk at that price, $15 for 2 hours entertainment, So why would you balk at a map pack that you only have to play for 2 hours to get more entertainment-hours/$ than going to a movie at the theatre? It's also pretty easy to argue that you are more engaged and focused playing a game than watching a movie and thus you're actually getting more imaginary entertainment units per hour than you are at the theatre (if you want to try to create a measurable entertainment unit, be my guest). So yes, I am trying to tell you that a quality entertainment product has inherent value and you should be willing to pay for it.

An industry/company can easily undermine itself by de-valuing its products by giving them away or making them extremely cheap. That practice can create a public perception that, for example, DLC is not worth paying for and should all be free. With no income from DLC, publishers will not provide much funding to studios to produce it, and either quality will degrade or DLC will no longer be created. Since the whole purpose of DLC is to extend the life of games which consumers have already invested in, it would seem to be something gamers would want to keep around. $15 for DLC sure beats going out and buying a new game for $50 or even *gasp* $60!
  • Brian Fredrick Heinrich
No, he just pointed out a fact, and he is correct on all accounts.
  • potatopotatopotato
    agreed!
  • cheaperisbetter
Never mind what I stated. I read the wikipedia link and had a change of opinion. We need to be proper consumers and buy everthing that is out there. Never complain or question the price on any product. It is all correctly priced. We should worship Rupert Murdoch also.

I was planning of getting the maps for free like I usually do but I wont do this I am bad.
  • Richard Long
to be fair, most people who bother to comment won't let something as simple as facts or reason change their opinions, but I figured it was worth a shot. Nothing I have said indicates that I believe all pricing is fair or that nothing should be questioned. But I am stressing the fact that prices are determined by factors beyond what you, personally, would like to pay. Hell, I think that 60" flat screen LED tv's should be free, but they ain't, and there are plenty of (legit, i.e. reasons beyond possible price fixing among panel manufacturers) reasons why.

As much as Kotick is an ass, the fact remains that if games don't make money, they don't get made. The more money a game makes, the more resources are put into that studio hoping to repeat the success, which means innovation in new titles and (hopefully) better products for you, the gamer.

So fine, yeah, go steal from people who bother to create things you enjoy, thats a reasonable solution. I'm sure you'll like it when a bunch of game devs come in and steal the burgers you worked so hard to flip. (I doubt you would really care, since you don't actually own the burgers, and it doesn't take much thought or sweat to flip them, so its not really a direct analogy, but you get the idea. plus it was a nice little jab at the fact that you don't seem to value the work of others, so I imagine you don't do work which has much value to anyone.)
  • Joe
Richard, I agree with how you feel about these maps. Your right, But talking about people that flip burgers or pick cotton or wash cars? Thats low man. Here is the funny thing, if he didn't have a job you would probably complain that he is a low life bum who doesn't contribute to society and now he has a job but your your giving him crap cause its not a glorious one. I guess no one is ever happy. I work as a custodian at a high school, i'm 19 going on 20 and i pull in 4500 a month with 100% medical and dental benefit coverage, going to a Cal State college and maintaining a 3.5 grade point average. No, my job is not glorious but have good money and my own car and buying a house in may for my birthday. (Thanks to college grants and my hard work, because of a high GPA in high school, because my parents couldn't afford it to send me to college, which little money they had at the time, they still helped) So don't hate on jobs. I'm still a teenager and living a very comfortable life. I work hard and hate when people degrade a job because its at Mcdonalds or at the corner store. At least they are working. And buying this map pack is nothing, its cheap for me. Sorry to those of you who cant afford it now but I hope they can lower the price soon. Cause I know how it feels when you want something that is just out of price range. So come on IW, lower it a bit
  • Rob
You must have never flipped burgers then "Richard" because it takes a lot of sweat to do so. Just because someone is below your pay grade does not make then a idiot, slow, or stupid. A honest days pay for a honest days wage is fair, hard work.

What is not fair is paying over and over again for the same product because some company needs to fatten there wallet. How many times do I have to buy the same songs just because the storage media has changed? (record-8track-tape-cd-whatever?)

You may create the product but without an audience for that product you have nothing.
  • Alex M
I'm sorry, but you are absolutely wrong. There's a huge difference between making a profit and ripping people off, and in Activision's case, the average gamer can see the ripoff from a mile away. Unfortunately, there are gamers who will buy it anyway because of the CoD brand, but that's another story.

If you want an example of a company that makes a profit without screwing over its customers, look at Valve. They released Team Fortress 2 and two other games in a package for only $40, and some two years later, they are still releasing FREE updates. That's right, maps and new features, for FREE!! And as far as I know, Valve is a very healthy company, and in my opinion, they will continue to be healthy well into the future because they make excellent games, and do right by their customers.

Activision, on the other hand, is trying to wring out every last penny from its CoD franchise, and people are starting to see through it. This is the typical short-sighted strategy that led to the current economic crisis. Activision will continue to grow for a while, but they will eventually implode without a long-term emphasis on their customers.
  • wahoooooo
    i agree, buddy!
  • cheaperisbetter
LOL if it makes you feel better to attempt to belittle others than ok I will
be your unemployed burger flipper, panhandler, and whatever else you
want. Piracy only affects the corporate who have no talent to create what
    they sell.
  • Bob
Um, people don't pay that for CD's and that's why the record industry is DYING.

Guess what? It's a ripoff, plenty of people are broke, inflation is rampant and tons of people are out of work. This is insane.
  • idk
    ur a ripoff!!!!!
  • Richard Long
hopefully, out of work people aren''t spending their limited resources buying games, so it shouldn't matter to them what it costs. The record industry isn't exactly dying. Though they are attempting clinging to the cd format because of diminished (though still reasonably healthy) profits on digital downloads. However, this has made the major labels much more conservative, i.e. less likely to take a risk on signing non-mainstream bands as well as reducing their investment in artists that are not phenomenally successfull. Thus, the homogenization of the offerings of the major labels, and less interest in purchasing music from the consumer in part because the product sucks. A little off topic, but pertinent.

Furthermore, you misunderstand the idea of inflation, inflation refers to across the board price increases due to changes in currency value, if your prices are steady during a period of inflation, you are actually charging less and less for your product as each dollar has less value. $50 year 2000 dollars are worth about $40 2009 dollars, thus if you charged $50 for something in 2000, and still charge $50 for it now, you are getting approx %20 less value for your product. So if you charged $50 for a new game in 2000, to keep up with inflation, you should be charging $61.68 now to receive the same value for your product. I didn't buy many new games in 2000, so I cant remember if they were charging $40 or $50 for them at the time, but your argument that inflation is a reason NOT to increase game price makes no sense, and in fact, inflation can account for 50%-100% of the change in new release game price in the last decade.
  • cmac
Honestly Richard Long you sound like you work for Infinity Ward and you want us to pay for something that isn't worth the money. You need to get a life and stop trying to convince people into wasting their hard-earned cash.
  • Ben
if people are persuaded by this then they probably dont deserve that money in the first place if you dont have the money dont spend not that hard (unless your US government)
  • Richard Long
I work in a creative industry completely unrelated to video games, and I am a little put-off by the idea that people seem to think that free entertainment is somehow their god given right. Plus I'm bored today, so sue me.
  • I 800 SUICDE
Two of the worst maps from C.O.D. 4. and their gonna add another $5 to it. I think we all should get a $5 discount from $10 and make it $5. I was excited to hear they were coming out with new maps and to hear it was those two included. Thats bullshit they should poll the players through xbox live and get our input if their just gonna remake the old school shit. everyone is just gonna buy it anyway just cause were tired of the maps already. but listen to the players dammit!!!!!!!!
  • KTuck
Crash was my favorite map in CoD4, hands-down.
  • $15...???? Better have a Taliban Zombies included LOL....With Battlefield Bad Company 2 out, the $$$$ you have to pay better be worth it.
  • VaOldSchool
Come on people...we're talkin' $15 not $150 dollars! Good grief. Some people would complain if they were hung with a new rope.

I'll gladly pay it for something fresh and new...i'm tired of the current maps.
  • potatopotatopotato
but the economy's crap! if they gave a shit about the gaming community, they would lower prices
  • Yours Truly
not everyone's economy is crap, but thats okay stay ignorant!
  • Richard Long
The "gaming community"irritates most people who play games, because, like it or not, most people play games casually and don't particularly care about whatever perceived injustice the developer supposedly committed that week.

Generally speaking "gaming community"= people who care way to much about their games
  • Richard Long
And I do understand the hipocracy of complaining about the "gaming community" while commenting on an article on a gaming news site, so don't bother pointing that out.
  • CODman1974
I well still by the map pack the price for me is not an issue..
What bothers me about it is that When I pay the money for this game (which is not cheap)
I should be given any updates or map packs that are offered as a bonus for buying the game in the first place...
They should offer a code with any new purchase of the game good for one entry (like Battlefield) That gives you access to all upcoming downloads....
  • Guest
Dude be happy u dont have to pay annualy like XBx.5 bucks wen ur PS3 was 300 or more..i will gladly pay 15 bucks for more maps to merk all u fools,,,lol pay the 15 and dont be stingy...(STS9 clan)later bitches im out!!!
  • Brandon
What the're doing is making up for the map packs they gave away with the Monster Energy drinks. The RICH always wants to get RICHER!!! and for the little guy who can't afford to go out, They will stay home and buy the video games/map packs.
  • me2
Come 5? we need more like 10-15 keepem coming!
  • Justin
how much money do they need!!
  • Gun Sparko
I will never buy this piece of BS crap. Fell once for it but not twice. Still trying to sell the game -_- nobody's buyin it
by the way, the game is complete garbage
  • Jay
Activision is ruining it not IW...
  • Paranerd
The maps are a timed exclusive. They will be on PS3 30 days after the 360's release, according to the following:
    http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/03/15/moder...

I'm with tigresa on this. I don't want to pay $15 for a map pack. I remember the days when $10 was the standard price for an XBLA game, but $15 games have become increasingly common. I fear that the $15 map pack will be the new standard if this keeps up.
  • Tigresa
Infinity Ward is ruining the video game consumer's economy. Leave it to them to raise the bar for prices of map packs, they already ruined PC games by bumping the slate to $60 -- and now others are following suit (Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed). u_u $15 is too much for a map pack, and those weren't even in the top tier of maps I liked from COD4.
