Contest: Win PES 2010 for the Xbox 360 or PS3

PES2010Previously at Spawn Kill you could have won all kinds of different things: Call of Duty Classic, beta keys, even Worms. We’ve got yet another contest for you here today that sports fans definitely won’t want to miss out on. We will be giving away a copy of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 for the Xbox 360 or PS3, your choice, and it couldn’t be easier to win.

All you have to do is tell us your most memorable soccer/football moment whether it’s in real life or in a video game. I have very fond memories of playing FIFA with my brother when I was a kid, like the time where we made each other emulate the player’s goal celebration if we scored. I also have a lot of memories of playing soccer, like when I scored the game-tying goal and a penalty shot in a playoff game. And who can forget the Liverpool vs. West Ham FA Cup game when Steven Gerrard banged one in from miles away in the last minute?

Your entry doesn’t have to be sentimental or a true story for that matter, you can get creative with it. As long as it’s entertaining we’ll love it. Just comment this post with your most memorable soccer/football moment for your shot at a free copy of PES 2010. Please register with a valid email and remember to speak coherently in full sentences. Otherwise, your entry will not be considered. Do not beg for the game and don’t enter multiple times. One entry apiece, please. The winner will be announced December 23rd at a time of our choosing, and the winner will be contacted via e-mail.

My most memorable soccer moment was this summer when I went to my first match. It was an exhibition between my favorite team F.C. Barcelona and my home team the L.A. Galaxy. Even though it was a friendly, the first Barca goal was awesome. The energy at the Rose Bowl was incredible.

Another bonus of going there is that I can say that I was part of the largest attendance for a soccer match in the U.S. since the World Cup in 1994. It was something like 90,137.

Well my favourite soccer moment was when I was 7 ( 27 now ), it was the day of soccer-tryouts and I was preparing to go there, but then my dad told me that he had a new ‘machine’ and that the same afternoon somebody would come to install it and explain how to work it… By the time I had to go to the soccerfield, that guy had installed the first PC in our home and just turned it on, I had to choose between joining the soccerteam or learning how that strange TV with the little letter on it worked…

I ended up only playing soccer in videogames for the rest of my life :-)

I don’t get to watch Soccer/Football all that often since it’s not on my local programming and the only matches I do get for free are when the World Cup rolls around. From the few that I have seen none have stuck out like the Italy vs France match, when Zidane headbutted Materazzi in the chest it was awesome yet oh so wrong. I at the time was rooting for Italy and was outraged / amazed how awesome it was that he just plopped to the floor after the headbutt to the chest.

Another thing I remember about that game was about 5 minutes after the match I happened to google the incident and found a whole slew of gif’s along with pictures. I was absolutely amazed how fast people uploaded stills and had made gif’s of the fiasco. Well for your viewing pleasure here’s E. Honda vs Marco Materazzi (Hey, it’s a video game site right?)

    http://voyage.typepad.com/lfc_images/Zidane_Honda_Headbutt.gif

I didn’t link it since I don’t know if you guys use HTML or something other so for you lazy folks you have to use the old fashioned copy and paste method.

It was a fateful night in west London. The Chelsea blue were singing and chanting as they were up 1-0 and going through to the final of the Uefa Champions league.
But a Catalan team known as Barcelona had other thoughts. In the 93rd minute Dani Alves crosses the ball which was not cleared. Suddenly the ball ends up in the feet of the worlds top footballer, Lionel Messi, who lays it up to Andres Iniesta, the pale rider!
Iniesta hit that ball, but it was not Iniesta alone who hit it, it was the million of Barcelona fans around the world that put their hearst into that final yet fateful shot. And there it was on the upper 90, the shot that tied the game and put Barcelona through on away goals, you could hear the collective gasp of the Chelsea fans, and the roar of the few Barcelona fans on the corner of the stadium. It was a miracle!

The rest is history, Barcelona goes on to win a historic treble, Andres Iniesta becomes folk heroe, but that night in Stamford Bridge will live on forever!

I have several Football/Soccer or “Futbol” as that is the name that my Ecuadorian and several South American countries call the world’s most beautiful sport.

ok lets begin the memories from my childhood, shall we?

I remember as a kid, i used to visit SEVERAL times my aunt who lived two or three blocks away from me. She used to live in this narrow neighborhood. By narrow, i mean the houses were literally next to each other without any space for them to breath and the distance between the house in front was about 10 to 15 feet. No cars around, the cars would be outside this narrow passage so it was safe. It was pretty small and perfect for a kid to play futbol or indoor futbol…in the outdoors!
The kids around that neighborhood were always kicking that ball when i was around. I visited my aunt and i stayed around to kick ball with them. It felt awesome throwing myself like a goalie towards the ball. It made me feel good that i tried to be a good goalie and throw myself like a professional even though i never caught the ball. i probably did but i always missed the damn ball and the other team always scored.
    Yeah well i tried…lol sorry guys! :D

I ALWAYS played futbol but adding a few months or even years, i learned that playing with a “stuffed leather” football hurts more than playing with an inflated football. Hell, i think i became a man that day. ;_;.
    I was playing defense with this group of unknown kids. The only kids i knew were my friends next door and they invited me to play in that big group. It was awesome, we played in the streets and we set up our nets with rocks and with imagination, we created invisible nets. I believe we played with a few teenagers and from a kid’s point of view, they are faster and kick harder. Now the stuffed leather futbol that i mentioned is STUFFED and is made of LEATHER. I really dont know what are they are stuffed with but they are quite small and they are heavier than the average ball and they are probably stuffed with damn merciless rocks. That is right, a ball that is heavier than the average soccer ball. Anyways, i see the ball coming straight to me. i think time froze. i had to make a decision, either i got out of the way and waited for it to hit the floor so i could kick it or prove my manhood and take the screaming raging ball that really wanted to hurt me. So i proved that i was a man and i put my leg towards the direction that the ball came from so i can stop it and ,hopefully, take control of it. Well, being a kid, muscleless, weetard, stupid, small, chubby, weak, did i say stupid? the ball crushed my thigh at full force and the pain was unspeakable. Dear god, i did stop the ball, but i couldnt move. Either my bones were broken, or the pain was so horrifying that stopped from taking control of the ball. i just couldnt move, the person next to me grabbed it and kicked it. Before that event, i always wanted to play with those stuffed balls and kick em around, after that event, i avoided that ball like the plague. I am proud to say that i became a man that day. ;_;

Adding a few years, and i am sitting in a stadium. The loud men screaming for their team to win, i loved it. It was a match between (Ecuadorian) Barcelona vs Emelec. They have been soccer rivals since the beginning of time and i believe it was my 1st time in a stadium. I went with my cousin and he was around 24 or 23 at that time. He told my mom that he wanted me to come with him and see the game. My mom let go of me and i was standing next to men screaming and cursing. That day was a good day since the sun was raging, there was this HUGE Barcelonian flag next to us, the grass was greener than ever, i never seen so much yellow/black in my life (Barcelona’s color) or blue (Emelec’s color), anger was in the air and i think i learned a few curse words. My cousing told me “Listen, if something goes crazy, i want you to go and hide below the Barcelona flag. Because The flag is there to be respected”
What he meant is that everyone in South America are Soccer Hooligans. When things get crazy, those damn (Bacelona’s fans) “Barcelonistas”, which are nasty, would act like Animals with capital a. They would push each other down the bleachers, start fights with each other. The “Emelecistas” (Emelec’s fans) were a bit peaceful but they were still Hooligans. I remember when Emelec built their new Stadium, Barcelona Hooligans came in a TRASHED it completely. They literally deteriorated the bleachers and broke the chairs. lmao, soccer is serious business to people.
Anyways, Barcelona started losing (which isnt surprising here, they suck even now lol) and the people around me started going crazy. My cousin told me to go below the flag and wait. He knew what was coming. Next thing i know, people that were seated behind us two or four rows back were now in the rows in front. They started behaving like animals. People were now pushing and crushing each other down the bleachers. I even lost sight of my cousin, he was probably down there pushing people back. Surprisingly, the long and big flag was still standing. My cousin was right, they will mess with each other but will never mess with the flag. i was still in one piece. Luckily, there wasnt any fights. In the news, Barcelonistas always fought with the Emelecistas and , yes, there was blood.

Just wanted to share that. Sorry if i wrote more than what it was asked but… :D

My most memorable moment is either during France’s run in 06 World Cup when I discovered that football is the greatest sport in the world, or USA’s improbable victory over Spain last summer in South Africa. I’m 43 and regret that I’ve never actually played the game (except on the xbox).

My fondest memory of soccer was going to USL games with my friends. Instead of watching the game we would go to the top of a hill overlooking the field and we played our own game of soccer. One time while we were doing this my friend kicked the ball and it rolled through the empty stands and onto the field. They had to stop the game and the goalie picked up the ball and threw it back to us. After that we weren’t aloud to play soccer there anymore so we stopped going to the games.

My fondest memory of soccer is 2002 world cup. Being korean of course I was excited and when my country made it all the way to the semi-finals I almost cried. I would go down to koreatown in Los Angeles to watch the games with hundreds of other supporters and the entire mall where people watched the games went INSANE every single time korea won. Those are some moments I will never ever forget.

Ah, Soccer. Or as the Europeans like to call it, “wussy rugby” (American football of course being “wussy rugby with silly hats”). It’s a sport of speed, agility and coordination, which makes it a continuing mystery why parents think their kids should be playing it. Baseball I can understand, as it mainly consists of standing around. Hell, with tee ball, you don’t even need to pitch! With soccer though, there’s all this running and ball handling involved, and not the fun, Penthouse forum kind either. Still, in my parents ongoing quest to prevent my descent into lardassery, I found myself suited up and on the field for a weekly pee-wee game.

After a few games, I had been “promoted” (to use the coach’s parlance) to the position of goalie, a position typically reserved for “spazzes” (to use the other kids’ parlance). In my defense, I had no problem with running or kicking, it was combining the two which gave me trouble, and lead to balls heading in bizarre directions which often defied the very laws of physics. I also shot it into our goal a lot by mistake because hey, sometimes you get turned around out there. So I was relegated to goalie, my sole instruction being to put my body in front of the ball by whatever means necessary. My coach said I had to sacrifice my body for the team, which seems questionable in hindsight considering we didn’t technically keep score. Now that I think about it, this may have simply have been revenge for dinging the coach’s car with one of my many, many shots.

Eventually there came a point in a game where an opposing player managed to break away from my confused teammates and make a beeline towards my end of the field. This was my moment of glory, and in a burst of misguided team spirit, I hurled myself in front of the incoming shot, and to my credit, managed to bring it to a screeching halt using only my testicles.

The pain probably would have been excruciating if I’d been conscious, which I wasn’t. I came to with an ice-pack on my gonads and my profusely apologizing parents hovering over me, vowing that I’d never have to set foot on the field again, that they hadn’t realized soccer was so dangerous, that my balls would eventually drop from their current location in my lungs etc., etc. Yet any guy will tell you that a shot to the groin, while painful, is hardly memorable. Our cruel joke of a reproductive system (thanks God!) makes such blows inevitable and unfortunately frequent. What made this particular incident noteworthy is that to cheer me up, my parents got me a copy of Starcraft on the ride home. And it was sweet.

Sorry if i wrote more than what it was asked but…
    :D

My most memorable momnet of soccer was in a video game. I was down 3-0 in my first ever game of Fifa 07 because i didnt know the controls. I came back and got a 4-3 lead, but with 13 seconds to go I let one in. I went crazy and got the goal back with only 2 seconds left and it was than I realized there was the extra add-on time. We remained tied until they got one in right before the whistle. We went into a shootout and i scored on all of my shots with an amazing 5-4 victory!
