lost-planet-2-1The start of Gamescom in Leipzig, Germany will bring forth the release of a Lost Planet 2 co-op demo from Capcom on Xbox Live. On August 19, Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download and play the demo that features a co-op battle against a “G-Type Salamander Akrid” boss. The co-op does have online play enabled for up to four players and will contain many weapons for gamers to try out.

Capcom is also using the demo as an opportunity to showcase their new game engine called MT Framework 2.0, the prior version having been used for the games in the Platinum Hits Triple Pack and Resident Evil 5. Since Capcom is showcasing the title at Gamescom, which starts August 19, expect more details and screenshots in the upcoming days.

Lost Planet 2 takes place ten years after the events of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. The new additions to the series are custom characters and 4-player cooperative play. Lost Planet 2 is slated for a fall 2009 release for North America and early 2010 release for Japan on the Xbox 360 and Windows platforms. A PlayStation 3 release is also expected early next year.
