StarCraft II Delayed to 2010

20081014_starcraft2Our calendars flipped to August and there still had been no word of a StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta, even though many had been expecting one during the summer. Many suspected that, in typical Blizzard fashion, the much anticipated sequel to South Korea’s national sport would be delayed until 2010. During Activision-Blizzard’s April-June earnings report, that suspicion was confirmed with Blizzard attributing the delay to the relaunch of the Battle.net platform.

Because Battle.net will be integrated with all of Blizzard’s future releases and will serve as a tougher piracy countermeasure, Blizzard said it needed more time to fully ”help us realize our vision for the service.” Since the new service is said to be “similar to Xbox Live” and StarCraft 2 and Battle.net will be heavily integrated, it’s not surprising that a delay was announced.
