In case any of you haven’t heard the big news by now, Capcom and Namco Bandai are planning on releasing two new fighting games, bringing together Tekken and Street Fighter in what seems to be one of the most exciting crossovers in the history of the genre. The already-hyped game isn’t set to release until at least 2012, but there was some gameplay footage for Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken that was shown at Comic-Con this year. The footage features none other than the stars of Street Fighter and Tekken –Ryu and Kazuya. (more…)

Attendees of the “Street Fighter Mania!: SSFIV and Beyond” panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday got a huge surprise when Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono revealed not only Capcom’s development of Street Fighter X Tekken, but also announced the development of Tekken X Street Fighter by Namco Bandai. The crossover games feature characters from both series and use different engines respectively.

Is releasing two critically bashed Street Fighter films enough to stop a determined gaming company from releasing more? Apparently not. It’s time for round three. According to Capcom, there will be further adaptations of their Street Fighter series hitting the big screen in the future.Despite two failed attempts already, Capcom still seems optimistic in regards to their Street Fighter film franchise. Just over a year ago, Street Fighter IV ushered back 2D fighters in a big way.  Now, with the release of Super Street Fighter IV, Capcom proves that if it ain’t broke, tweak it and make it better.  The genre is here to stay, as this game has been eagerly anticipated since hints of it dropped last summer.  But is Super Street Fighter IV worthy of a full disc release or is it simply just minor DLC-esque add-ons to an already great game?

It’s been 10 years since the original and one massive downloadable game after than and now fighting fans are getting a brand spanking new Marvel vs. Capcom to spend hundreds of hours whomping each other in.  As the biggest announcement at this year’s Capcom-only Captivate event in Hawaii, the publisher dropped this bombshell on an ever hungry media as well as a teaser trailer which you can find below.  Rumor has it the new MvC game will feature updated Street Fighter IV style visuals, more characters than ever before, and who knows what else?  It’s full title is Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, so if the stories in fighting games are your thing, you can probably expect a whopper.  What is known is that the game uses an advanced version of the MT Framework engine used in Lost Planet 2 and Resident Evil 5, the signature over the top fighting styles seen in former vs. games, and the triple team antics fans have grown accustomed to over the years.  My guess is that this might just be as wildly popular as Street Fighter IV has been, and possibly moreso if it brings the comic nerds to the fighting platform as well.  I know I’ll be checking it out on my PS3 or Xbox 360 come 2011. Peep the trailer below for a taste of the action (in cinematic style unfortunately).

Street Fighter Alpha 3 represents the best of everything Capcom had learned in their many years creating different fighting games. The gameplay is a blend of the more slow-paced and strategic Street Fighter 2 with the more varied and frenetic Alpha series. Air combos, alpha counters, and flashy finishing moves were combined with superior character balancing and deep fighting strategies to make Alpha 3 one of the best fighting titles of all time.

bb-007How many times have you walked into an arcade to check out what’s the latest in arcade hits to play just to find the DDR master ramping up 230+ Perfects on something like the cruel, cruel song The Legend of Max? Or to stretch your eyes to the sight of Street Fighter champion Justin Wong single-handedly (he might as well) pummel every single opponent daring enough to challenge him. Or maybe you are not the type to subject yourself to public humiliation. You really want to play, but you don’t want the crowd’s glaring eye to witness your utter failure as you play on Light mode in DDR or want to challenge the AI solo-style in Marvel vs. Capcom. But seeing these elite players do what they do best is what really fuels a player to want to join the ranks of the elite arcade-goers, flexing their skills to the passing crowd. Who doesn’t wish they could play like that? I am only one of the many trying to climb my way to the top.

SF IV - PC BenchAnyone out there who is just now coming out of a coma, or finding themselves without a console might not know too much about the February release of Street Fighter IV earlier this year. Lucky for all of us PC gamer relics, the game is going to be hitting the shelf early next month, giving us the chance to pummel each other over Games for Windows – LIVE. In addition to all the content that went out to consoles the PC version is going to be shipping with three additional visual filters that will serve to make your game look as if it was a watercolor painting, an ink drawing or a posterize filter that, well, posterizes it.

sf4stickAll us serious business Street Fighter fans have been doing lately is huffing and puffing about the endless drought throughout the Fightstick Famine of ‘09. The game came out in February and these sticks have been sold out ALL over the ‘net ever since! Both online retailers and down the street shopping malls included. People have been paying upwards of $150 for these joysticks on internet auction sites just because they are so desperate to own one (and own you, in SFIV, of course). Will MadCatz ever deliver?

turboWith the release of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: HD Remix, Street Fighter fans were treated to the ultimate of 2D fighters. As great as the game is, it still had a few flaws. Luckily, the first patch is online as of right now. The new patch is supposed to fix several issues (look here for more details) including the pre-match slowdown and the strangely absent “Players Met” feature not showing any players interacted with.
