There’s been lots of speculations and renderings of what the new Pokémon Black & White starters will look like, but this scan from Japanese magazine CoroCoro seems to be the most legit.  While the dark silhouettes of the three were released a week or so ago, this may be the first official unveiling of the newcomers.

I’ve grown up — rather fondly, I might add — with Pokémon. Over the years the several different hundreds of pocket monsters have become my dear friends. Simply settling into a new game (like I’ve recently done with Heart Gold) is a comfort to me. In a tumultuous, changing world, I find solace in the fact that while the games have metamorphosed over the years, whittling down a health bar or throwing a Poké Ball haven’t changed. When so many things I can’t control refuse to stay the same, these smaller precious memories become infinitely more dear to me.

Pokémon Black and White has been announced to released for the Nintendo DS in Japan this fall.  Black and White will be the fifth generation of Pokémon games and unfortunately there isn’t much information available as of yet.  A note on the Pokémon homepage reads, “Every aspect will be reborn innovatively.” What could this possibly mean for the next generation of Pokemon games?

According to the teaser on the Japanese home page, we might have more information on April 15th.  Zoroark, a dark-type Pokémon, is described as a “Monster-Fox Pokémon” and will be appearing in the Black and White games.  This is all pretty exciting news for Pokémon fans, so keep your eyes peeled on April 15th!

It’s been a while since I last played a Pokémon game.  In fact, the last of the series that I remember finishing was Pokémon Red and Blue for the Game Boy back in 1998 when it first debuted on North American shores.  It’s been 11 years since I’ve been able to get attached to my Pokémon companions, and unfortunately none of the other additions to the franchise have been able to hold my attention for more than an hour or two.  While Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver do not bring anything new to the table, they are enjoyable and have managed to reel me back into the world of Pokémon with a strong sense of nostalgia.  It is this sense of nostalgia that has made playing the game such a pleasant experience, but there’s plenty here for newcomers to the series to appreciate too.

4100040310_6a0deaa44eAs Astrella reported a couple weeks ago, Nintendo is all set to start offering WiiWare demos for those of us savvy enough to be on this new-fangled internet.  With as short as most WiiWare games are, I don’t think I would have ever expected to try them out before buying.  The list of demos available thus far is fairly short, but offers up some good picks.  They also announced a new Pokémon game, and you Spawn Kill readers know how much we here love Pokémon.  Just listen to our latest podcast for a testament to that love.  Pokémon aside, hit the jump for the full demo list.

pikachuPikachu is getting another spin-off, coming to Japanese retailers on December 5.  Titled Pokepark: Pikachu’s Great Adventure, the game invites you to use the different abilities of various Pokemon in order to clear various attractions, such as a sky race and water slide.

No screens have been released, nor has Nintendo made any mention of a North American release as of yet. However, the style is said to be different from previous Pokemon WiiWare releases.

North American Pokemon fans in the meantime can look forward to the upcoming DS games Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky (out today) as well as SoulSilver and HeartGold (coming early 2010).

pokemongsTo celebrate the tenth anniversary of Pokemon Gold and Silver, Nintendo will be releasing the rumored Pokemon Gold and Silver remakes on the Nintendo DS. There were reports earlier this week about a major Pokemon game-related announcement from the Pokemon Sunday program, which featured two gold and silver balls that would be remained closed until the announcement was made. Today the official Pokemon site has been updated to reveal the new remakes.

Similar to Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green, which were remakes of the first generation of Pokemon games, Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver are likely to feature graphical improvements, game mechanic updates, and additional content. The game is slated for a late 2009 release. Stay tuned for more information.
