I’ve been a DDR player for around 8 or 9 years now. I’m not one of those professional plays-on-two-arcade-machines-at-once kind of gals, but I’m certainly decent. If you’ve read my E3 hands-and-feet-on preview of the Wii version of the upcoming DDR game – you know my dilemma with how the series has changed over time. It’s gone from a tracklist of Eurobeat, hardcore, and Japanese-inspired songs to Britney Spears and Sean Paul songs slowly but surely. That’s when I left the scene… And waited ever so patiently for a return of the music that devoted DanceDanceRevolution players have been waiting for on current-gen consoles and arcades. We’re tired of tap dancing around on the PS2 if we want good music! Luckily I had a chance to try out the upcoming PS3 version of DDR at a Konami preview event in NYC this week which also utilizes the PlayStation Move hardware.

Sneak Preview: The music is back!

Just yesterday, Hideo Kojima came strolling along the streets of SOHO, New York City in Metal Gear REX touting his Big Boss shirt to celebrate the recent release of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (June 8th) for American fans. Well, maybe they couldn’t fit REX in Koji-san’s helicopter, but he definitely had a nice entourage of bodyguards for any “just in case” crazy New York fan moments. We understand, Kojima.

This weekend Nintendo hosted a lovely launch party for the now released Super Mario Galaxy 2. Actually, Nintendo stuck it out all weekend for their fans and held two launch events: one on Friday for the media and high-ranked members of the Nintendo Club online, and another on Sunday again at the Nintendo World Store for fans (some of who I actually saw lining up on Friday when I was leaving the earlier event). When it comes to Mario fans, they are rampant, passionate, will come in droves, and live in every pocket of the world. Here’s a little taste of what Nintendo had in store for the SMG2 fans of NYC!

wii-sports-resortSo here I am, sitting at work posting up an ad for an event at work on Craigslist, the everyman’s source for all things Happy Ending, when I did my “for fun” routine search of video game events in the New York City area. This actually turned up something rather interesting this time! Apparently Nintendo is hosting an early launch event in Times Square on July 23rd for Wii Sports Resort. It’s not your regular event though held at the less-than-exciting Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Center, Nintendo will be taking over the strip in Times Square known as Military Island and reforming it for a good six hours into a beach resort. Complete with a swimming pool, a sandy beach, and a lounge. In the middle of Times Square!?
