12005Now available for Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero are three songs from alternative metal rockers Breaking Benjamin. The band made their debut in 2002 with their critically-acclaimed album Saturate. But you won’t be getting any songs from that album. Instead you will be getting a track off of their second and third album along with the band’s newest single. The Breaking Benjamin Track Pack features “Sooner or Later” from the 2004 album We Are Not Alone, “Until The End” from the album Phobia and “Give Me A Sign” from their recently released Dear Agony Album.

As an added bonus for downloading the new tracks, you’ll have the opportunity to play with the band over Xbox Live on February 20th from 1-3pm EST. You will have to download the tracks in order to play with Breaking Benjamin and those who do you’ll want to look for their Gamertag: BBGWF.  Click here for more information on the Game with Fame featuring Breaking Benjamin.

The Breaking Benjamin Track Pack is out now via Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 440 Microsoft Points, from the PlayStation Store for $5.49 and the Wii Shop Channel for 550 Wii Points.  The three songs are also available for  individual purchase 60 Microsoft Points, $1.99 and 200 Wii Points each.

30_Seconds_to_MarsReleasing this week on Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero are three tracks from the Los Angeles-based band 30 Seconds to Mars. The DLC tracks features “Attack” and “From Yesterday” off of their platinum selling sophomore album A Beautiful Life along with “Kings and Queens”, the first single from This is War released late last year. 30 Seconds to Mars, formed by Jared and Shannon Leto, made their debut in 2002 and were met with immediate success with their “post-grunge” and “melodic hard rock” style.

SYMBOLS-tongue-1Did you know that Gene Simmons’ tongue is over seven inches long?  I’m not joking.  Look it up.  They measured it once.

Will that piece of information make you more or less likely to buy the latest Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero DLC?  And if so, why or why not?

The truth of the matter is, there are three songs coming from KISS, and while you can’t play as KISS, or even just as Gene Simmons’ tongue which is what I’ve been asking for since the first Guitar Hero, you will get to play these three songs if you dish out the cash.  It’s a start.

Review: Guitar Hero 5

Posted by Stephanie "Tigresa" Palermo on September 24th, 2009

gh5_01Yes we heave and haw about another Guitar Hero being released every few months, because it’s generally the same game with a $60 sticker price for a setlist that could have just been DLC. I understand that, but with all the changes, tweaks, and upgrades Neversoft has made to the latest installment of Guitar Hero — I urge you to hear me out! Many of the finishing touches placed on the game make it a complete package worth a measly three Andrew Jacksons.

gh5_playboyIn our latest display of Risky Business, Hugh Hefner brings his bunnies to rock hard. Who looks better in their tighty whiteys than the bunnies? Hugh brings an entire cavalry of them to take over the famous Risky Business scene in the latest Guitar Hero 5 advertisement. Hit the jump for the 30 second TV spot. I still feel that Michael Phelps and his crew were the most powerful Risky Businessers!

CobainAs two of my favorite Nirvana songs have been announced as part of the Guitar Hero 5 track list, Lithium and Smells Like Teen Spirit (How long have we been waiting for this? About 5 games…?), Activision has also revealed that Kurt Cobain will be a playable rocker amongst some of the other brutal legends in the game.

Guitar Hero 5 is coming up fast on us with a September 1st release date! Looking forward to checking out the new challenge mode and some Johnny Cash action.

GH: Van Halen is Free with GH5 Purchase

Posted by IcyStorm on August 11th, 2009

guitar hero van halenFor a limited time, if you buy Guitar Hero 5 and you submit the unique game code with the game, a receipt of your purchase, and some sticker on the GH5 packaging, you will receive Guitar Hero: Van Halen for free before it’s out in stores. Submissions must be postmarked by October 31, 2009, but if supplies are limited, it’s advisable you do this quickly after GH5 hits store shelves on September 1.

This actually makes Guitar Hero 5 very tempting, and no doubt this could make a GH5 purchase necessary for some on the Spawn Kill staff.

GH5 Johnny CashThe main man, the man in black, the legendary inspiration Johnny Cash is officially going to be making a star appearance in Guitar Hero 5 when it releases on September 1st. He has been remembered and tributed in CG to deliver to you a trailer of his arrival. Check out my favorite (and probably only link to my interest in country music) hero in all his glory in the trailer below.

GuitarHero5_Xbox360Avatar2Owners of Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Smash Hits will be able to export on-disc tracks for use in Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero in a similar fashion to last year’s Rock Band 2’s support for Rock Band on-disc songs. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers can download an update (will cost you money) to export on-disc tracks to their hard drives, but you will need a unique 20-digit code on the back of the World Tour and Smash Hits manuals. Individual tracks can be deleted. A free update will also update World Tour DLC with GH5 features and allow the tracks to be used in the new Hero titles.

While the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero 5 will support Avatars, Eurogamer reports that the Wii version of Guitar Hero 5 will support your Miis, although it’s unclear whether this is only in Mii Freestyle mode or in every game mode of the title. A recent IGN interview with Vicarious Visions CEO Karthik Bala also reveals that the Wii version of Guitar Hero 5 will also more or less every feature of its PS3 and 360 counterparts, including the Party Play mode.

833xguitar-hero-51If you weren’t already drooling over the fantastic setlist featured in Guitar Hero 5 (shipping September 1st), you soon will be. Activision has just announced the entire 85-song setlist that will be available from the moment you boot up the game. Encompassing several different genres of music including classic rock, hard rock, emo, indie, and everything in between, I believe this could be Guitar Hero’s most eclective track list yet. I’ve got my heart set on “Gamma Ray” as well as many, many others. Hit the jump for the entire 85-song setlist, straight from a presser to the Spawn Kill email. WARNING: epic tracks ahead.

indexWhat a load of trash, or more accurately, what a bunch of garbage. Shirley Manson, frontwoman of Garbage (likely well-known to many of you as Catherine Weaver) will be appearing in the upcoming Guitar Hero 5 in the vein of past characters such as Hayley Williams (gag me), Slash, Jimi Hendrix, and Ozzy Osbourne. She will be joining a currently unknown gaggle of other artists to be appearing onstage in the fifth installment of Guitar Hero. I’m actually pretty excited about this, considering Ms. Manson is a longtime favorite vocalist of mine. Good job, Activision!

1085680-gh5_santana_jamming_superAdding to the known setlist of 85 songs in Guitar Hero 5, Activision has revealed twenty four more songs that will be in the game. Among these songs are some re-recorded tracks like “Bring the Noise 20XX” by Public Enemy and unreleased singles such as AFI’s “Medicate” that will soon appear on their new album, Crush Love. Activision also mentions many of the bands featured in Guitar Hero 5 have never been in a rhythm game before, such as A Perfect Circle and Grand Funk Railroad.

Check out the new twenty-four tracks revealed by Activison below, as well as the ones previously announced if you haven’t seen those yet.

Guitar Hero 5 Features Song Challenges

Posted by IcyStorm on July 22nd, 2009

gh5To keep its owners entertained for even longer, Guitar Hero 5 will offer song challenges for each track, which are additional goals that when achieved, will unlock new items like clothes and instruments. Each challenge will have gold, platinum, and diamond levels so that gamers will be inclined to keep playing to get more and more. This system completely replaces the cash system of previous Guitar Hero titles. Beating the different tiers of challenges will also add more stars to your score on songs.
