Just recently Spawn Kill had the opportunity to check out a few of EA’s upcoming games and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 made a little appearance since it was its launch week, it was actually present in 3D form on the PC which was fantastically impressive. We took a few moments to sit down with Lo Wallmo of the DICE team to chat about Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

bad-company2Big news from the Battlefield camp – they’re happy to announce that the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo is on pace to become the fastest downloaded demo in EA history. The demo continues to dominate PSN and Xbox Live with over 2 million demo downloads across the two networks in the first five days of availability. Electronic Arts has been aggressively promoting the sequel by holding multiplayer betas and offering the multiplayer demo a month before release which has obviously been getting them some attention.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is already in the hands of almost 2½ million gamers, and it hasn’t even shipped yet,” said Patrick Bach, Senior Producer on Battlefield: Bad Company 2. “This massive rush to experience the game early is proof positive that action gamers are looking for more. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 delivers on every front. This is intelligent, strategic warfare that our competitors simply cannot replicate.”

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 complements the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer with a greater focus on squad-based multiplayer in which gamers must play as a cohesive team to be victorious.  The sequel builds on the successes of its predecessor, offering more weapons, more vehicles, more destruction, and more kills! Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is set to release on March 2nd in North America and March 4th in Europe for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The limited edition can be pre-ordered at no extra cost and if you get it from Amazon you can get a $20 credit towards a future video game purchase. We’ve gotten a chance to play through both the PS3 beta and the demo so be sure to check back for our BC2 Impressions.

operator1 copyWhat!?! A shooter leaving the stale taste of World War II behind? Although this isn’t the most original move for a war game franchise, I am intrigued by a new take on a market dominated by, well, that other company. Medal of Honor, scheduled to be released in 2010, promises to be an authentic war experience that follows one of America’s most elite soldiers (yes, gettin’ those bloody Brits outta my war stories!). Your elite character is from a group of soldiers called Tier 1 Operators that are described as those soldiers “who take on missions no one else can handle.”

EA has also announced that their DICE studio (of the Battlefield series) will be responsible for developing the multiplayer aspect of the game. Is this good news? Are they putting the new Medal of Honor’s multiplayer in the right hands? Comment and let us know!

badcompany2Recently I had the chance to sit down and test out some Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer and after only a short time with it I found myself completely engrossed in the game. Its predecessor took the Battlefield franchise to a new level by adding the ability to basically destroy any building using all the weapons at your disposal. Bad Company 2 looks to improve on that and from what I played it looks like DICE is on the right track. I only got to play the multiplayer portion of the game and although it feels very similar to the original Bad Company I was able to notice the improvements right away. From the graphics to controls to the destruction, almost every aspect of the title has improved.

Review: Battlefield 1943

Posted by IcyStorm on July 22nd, 2009

1943_1It makes me feel rather old knowing that Battlefield 1942 is nearly seven years old, because it feels like just yesterday when I was playing it for hours and hours. Since 2002, Digital Illusions and Electronic Arts have released many Battlefield titles but did not release a true successor to 1942. Each installment really changed gameplay and mechanics from the original title, and only now do we see a return to the WWII-era after delving into Vietnam-era, the modern day, and the future. Battlefield 1943 isn’t a full-blown sequel – it lacks a lot of variety having only three classes and four maps – but DICE has taken the best of the Battlefield series and released a fun and affordable package on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.
