Review: Dead Rising 2: Case Zero

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero is kind of a landmark venture in the gaming world. When it was first announced, many decried it as a paid demo, and why pay for something that is meant to convince you to pay for something else? Others saw it as an opportunity for a new type of marketing, or even a new genre of games. Now that it’s out, we can finally answer the question of just what it is, and more importantly, if it’s worth paying for.

Rising this summer is the sequel to zombie apocalypse favorite, Dead Rising. As announced at Microsoft’s X10 event, Americans will be chopping their way through the undead masses in Dead Rising 2 on August 31, while Japan and Europe will get their copies a few days later on September 2nd and 3rd, respectively. In case you haven’t heard, there is no Xbox exclusivity, so PlayStation and PC players will have no excuse not to get their hands on the living dead this time around. Interested in the classic? Frustrated at the tiny text on my standard television set, I initially shelved Capcom’s Dead Rising in 2006. A year later, equipped with a forty-some inch HD set, I tackled the dead, saved survivors, took some pictures, and finally knew what the hell I was doing. Dead Rising grabbed the consumer and screamed “HIGH DEF GAMING IS THE ONLY WAY TO PLAY!”
Starting September 8th, Xbox 360 owners will be able to pick up Capcom’s Platinum Hits Triple Pack, which includes Dead Rising, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition – Colonies Edition and Devil May Cry 4, all for just $40 USD. All were fairly well received, and with Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2 headed to 360s in the future, there’s never been a better time to get the first installments of those series.
