Street Fighter Alpha 3 represents the best of everything Capcom had learned in their many years creating different fighting games. The gameplay is a blend of the more slow-paced and strategic Street Fighter 2 with the more varied and frenetic Alpha series. Air combos, alpha counters, and flashy finishing moves were combined with superior character balancing and deep fighting strategies to make Alpha 3 one of the best fighting titles of all time.

Moto_GP_09_logo_orangeMotoGP has a long history of creating a very exciting motorcycle racing experience though in the recent generation the franchise has struggled. The previous title lacked any sort of depth and gamers were left with wanting much more. With MotoGP 09/10 developers Milestone look to change that. The upcoming racing title will feature a very robust career mode unlike any seen in the MotoGP franchise. Players will take control of everything on and off the track. With the game only a few weeks away, Capcom has announced that gamers will be able to test drive MotoGP 09/10 this Thursday March 4 when the demo goes live on the PSN and XBLA. You’ll be able to check out three modes- Championship mode, Time Trial and the all new Arcade mode.

Zero_3_psd_jpgcopyIf you’re a Mega Man fan, you have a reason to be happy.  Not only is Mega Man 10 just a few weeks from release (via PSN, XBLA, and WiiWare), but Capcom has also revealed they are releasing all four Mega Man Zero games (originally released for Game Boy Advance) on one DS cartridge.

The forthcoming ultimate collection of Resident Evil 5 (titled Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition) is set to include both new basic features for the main game and additional missions and characters to use in the updated Mercenaries Reunion gameplay mode. For everyone who already owns the bread and butter title, Capcom has released the new additions as downloadable content packs on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. The first of the new missions hit the PlayStation Network just this Thursday. Titled Lost in Nightmares, this new chapter follows BSAA Agents Chris and Jill through the original Spencer mansion on a dubious mission with a not-so-dubious climax.

Almost four years before God of War became a top priority amongst action game fans, Capcom’s Devil May Cry was the go-to title for fast-paced combat, impossible air juggles, and a brutal, bloody storyline telling a tale of redemption of revenge. Though the series is more or less on the backburner with modern-generation consoles, Devil May Cry was very much the precursor to some of the biggest games coming out this year.

mega_zero_collection_cmyk_tm_psd_jpgcopyCapcom announced yesterday that they would be bringing over the nearly classic Mega Man Zero Collection to our favorite little clam shell. Said collection includes Mega Man Zero 1-4, originally released as Game Boy Advance games back in the early 00’s. It was a simpler time, a time of PlayStation 2’s and this weird little thing they called an Xbox. But these games were far from simple. For one, they did not star series hero Mega Man but in fact featured a swanky fella that we first saw back in Mega Man X called Zero. He had flair, a killer haircut, and a sword-type thing. Apparently he proved popular enough in the vanilla series to get himself his own spin-off, and it worked because the Mega Man Zero games were actually quite highly regarded in each of their renditions.

Zero_4_bmp_jpgcopy

As a quick background, the Mega Man Zero games featured Zero freshly awoken some 100 years after his last appearance to find a world of innocent reploids under unfair attack by an organization darkly known as Neo Arcadia. They’re certainly no Dr. Wily, but they prove a menacing enough foe. The second game is basically more of the same. As is 3, and 4. I mean, it’s always a little different, but whenever you enter into this type of world you know pretty much what to expect. The action is all classic 2D Mega Man side-scrolling action, with power ups and boss battles galore. There won’t be anything new to this package, but shoving four games into one box and selling it for a quarter of the price than it probably originally cost fans is a boon indeed. And for those wondering if these Mega Mans pack the punch of the newest versions of classic Mega Man hitting WiiWare, XBLA, and PSN, let me assure you, they aren’t easy. No word yet on use of the touch or dual screens.

Fans of the series unfamiliar with the Mega Man Zero games should definitely check this out. I personally think these games play great on a handheld, much like the slew of Castlevanias do.  The only real question will be how dated this particular port of Mega Man-ness will feel, but given the popularity of the downloadable games I’d say it’ll do just fine.

Super-Street-Fighter-4-Juri-550Solid information has been on slightly unsure footing these past few months regarding a few of Capcom’s bigger releases this year, but today official light is shed on the mystery of release dates of Super Street Fighter 4, Monster Hunter Tri, Lost Planet 2, and Final Fight: Double Impact.  They also released information today about a new Monster Hunter game hitting the Xbox 360 called Monster Hunter Frontier.  It’s not actually “new,” and is actually a port of a PC MMO of the same name, but it’s new to 360 owners.  Personally, I’d love to try a Monster Hunter game out, but who the hell can keep up with them all?

But without further ado, here are your springtime Capcom release dates:

  • Super Street Fighter IV –   April 27th in North America, April 30th in Europe
  • Monster Hunter Tri – April (okay so nothing official here, call me a liar)
  • Lost Planet 2 – May 18th 2010, North America and Europe
  • Final Fight: Double Impact – Uh….Spring?

You know what?  They didn’t really announce many solid release dates after all.  Capcom, you’ve made a liar out of me for the last time.  I’ll get you for this.  I’ll get you by buying probably 2 of these titles.  Damn you.

Wii-Classic-Controller-ProThose of you whose aching hands have been longing for a more ergonomic controller when playing VC and other games on your Wii have some good news today.  Nintendo finally announced that the new version of the classic controller, the Classic Controller Pro, will be available for sale in North America in both white and black this April.  Each controller will retail for $19.99.

Of course, if you’re a really cool kid on the block, you can pick up one of the new (black) controllers with a copy of Monster Hunter Tri for some serious monster-hunting action.  This bundle will sell for $59.99, saving you a cool $10. (Of course, you can also buy the game separately, for $49.99.)

Monster Hunter Tri has made a huge splash in the Japanese market, and we’re confident the bundle with the Classic Controller Pro will give fans in North America plenty to get excited about,” said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America’s vice president of Licensing. “Gamers of all kinds enjoy playing games on Wii. Monster Hunter Tri delivers an incredible new experience on Wii, while the Classic Controller Pro gives players even more control options for their favorite Wii games.”

In addition to the grips that make the controller more hand-friendly, it also includes a second row of shoulder buttons, and that pesky cord has been moved from the front to the back (where it belongs).  While it’s not the sexy black Wii console bundle our friends in Japan received, it’s still not a bad deal.

Making its North American debut on Wii this spring, Monster Hunter Tri is one of the most strikingly beautiful titles developed for Nintendo’s Wii system. Pushing the hardware to the limit, Monster Hunter Tri depicts a living, breathing ecosystem where humans co-exist with majestic monsters that roam both dry land and brand new sub-aqua environments – a first for the series. Offering the player varied control configurations to suit their style of play, players can choose between the Classic Controller Pro, Wii Remote and nunchuck, or Classic Controller to slay the monsters that inhabit the world.

08e086e92ec3aba671c73964c665e31aGenerally as a gamer, I tend to look forward.  These retro trips into gaming’s history are something I usually avoid, but it’s difficult for me to deny the appeal of classic Mega Man gaming.  At one point not long ago, I played every single Mega Man NES game straight through for a week, and it was a blast.  The games hold up amazingly well, are always challenging, and nostalgic to a fault.

finalfightCapcom hit the airwaves this morning with a few announcements concerning two of their upcoming releases, Final Fight:  Double Impact and Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.  First up is a contest concerning throwback PSN and XBLA title Final Fight and coloring!  Not really kidding about that.  The contest basically asks fans to color the box art (pictured left, click to enlarge).  Yes, it sounds odd (particularly as the game is a digital download), but who I am to criticize a contest?  They’re giving away a copy of the game, as well as an all-expenses paid trip to New Orleans to party with the Capcom crew at their “Captivate” event.  That alone sounds cool enough to warrant entry into the contest, but the winner also gets a poster of their colored art and some more undetermined swag.

Impressions: Dark Void

Posted by David "Snarkasaur" Stewart on January 11th, 2010

dark_void_video_game_logo__1_This week Capcom released a demo for their upcoming sci-fi shooter Dark Void, and for anyone either too lazy to download it or just uninterested but still curious, I thought I would give my own opinion on this slice of the pie.  Dark Void has an odd history in regards to exposure.  At one point, Capcom really pushed on the advertising, even going so far as to give away a Tesla Roadster in their efforts to promote it (I didn’t win it, which will forever leave a bad taste in my mouth).  But since then, the publisher has been fairly quiet about the title.  With its imminent release on the 19th of this month, we’ve seen a slight resurgence in its promotion, but still not a ton.  The game’s biggest selling point seems to be its jetpack, multi-level combat, and thankfully that’s just what the demo gives us.

34Capcom has announced today that this very week will see a demo released of their upcoming sci-fi shooter, Dark Void.  There’s been much speculation about this title, which boasts cool premises like jetpack combat and appearances from historical badass Nikola Tesla.  This week will see hopes or fears compounded as demos generally give a good impression of how a game will play (kind of the point).  Not much has been said regarding the demo content, merely that “The teaser level will be a nice introduction to gamers who plan to try out the full game when it ships on January 19, 2009.”

For those out of the loop, Dark Void is a sci-fi shooter “that combines an adrenaline-fueled blend of aerial and ground-pounding combat.”  It’s set in an alternate universe in a seemingly Bermuda Triangle sense, and stars a pilot named Will who finds himself unceremoniously dropped into the middle of a war between humans and aliens.  The jetpack mechanics certainly sound intriguing, and if done well could provide a whole new method of gameplay for innovation-hungry gamers.  And while it’s sci-fi in nature, it’s refreshing that someone has steered away from the space marine formula saturating today’s games.

dark_void_2Releasing this month means that Dark Void finds itself up against some pretty steep competition.  That’s a bit of an understatement.  With games like Bayonetta, Mass Effect 2, and No More Heroes 2, Dark Void needs to be better than sliced bread stand a chance at any decent sales numbers. Capcom has been knocking things out of the park lately though, so it’s entirely possible.  And people always appreciate the chance to test out new intellectual properties.

Regardless, the demo hits Xbox Live on Wednesday, January 6th (that’s tomorrow!), and PSN on Thursday January 7th.  Feel free to check it out and give us your thoughts!

re5Along with the upcoming Resident Evil 5 DLC, hardcore costume collectors can check out brand new costumes for the rugged pair of Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar. They’re not exactly a step up from the outrageous getups we saw via the simple unlocks already packaged within Resident Evil 5, but at least they’re new, right? Sheva steps out in questionable style in her Little Red Riding Hood inspired “Fairy Tale” outfit, which wouldn’t look out of place at a skeevy adult Halloween party. Don’t worry though, it’s much more tasteful than her other unlockable outfits. Chris dirties himself up with a little BDSM/heavy metal action with his “Warrior” costume. You can check out both in the trailers below, highlighting the new Mercenaries Reunion mode. You must be 18 or older to view these trailers, so ask permission from Mom and Dad or skedaddle if you’re still in diapers.

darkvoidlogoAs the January 19, 2010 release date creeps (or perhaps I should say soars?) ever closer, those of us who’ll still have some jingle in our wallets are chomping at the bit to get our hands on Capcom’s innovative new action game, Dark Void.

To help make the wait a bit more bearable, Capcom has released a “final” cinematic trailer.  Prepare to be wowed and to continue wishing that someone would invent a real jetpack.  Hit the break for the new trailer.

AAI_FOBIt’s a slow news day, but there’s a contest brewing!  Head over to this forum to win a chance at some swanky posters, courtesy of Capcom (pictured below).  All you have to do is provide a caption for one of the three screenshots depicted in the gallery down there.  They’ll announce the winners on December 11th.  I’m entering, and you can all bet my captions will be offensive and malicious, so why not try and top me?  If you dare!

To prove I’m not working for Capcom, Monster Hunter sucks (actually I have no idea if this is true or not).  And don’t worry, most of the entries are awful so far.  You still have a chance.  The posters are apparently signed as well, if fictional signatures are your thing.Â
