That’s right, kids, it’s Monday yet again, which, although usually not a good thing, can be seen as great if you are a Nintendo fan, because it means it’s time once again for another update to WiiWare, VC, and DSiWare.  This week we have six new titles (none for virtual console, unfortunately), with the headliner being BlayzBloo for DSiWare, the kawaii version of the fighter BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, previously only available on non-Nintendo systems.  Hit the break for details on all that’s new to download this week. new-york-anime-festivalJust this past weekend I headed out to NYAF (New York Anime Fest) at the Javits Center in NYC. I snapped some shots of cosplayers (myself not included here ’cause I’m shy) all around the convention center, supported my local artists by nabbing their artistic swag to plaster on my walls and sat quietly through the masquerade as cosplayers showcased their epic (questionable…) talents. Although it was not a gaming convention, the anime and video game culture are so closely linked that an abundance of video game characters were able to make it to the show. Check out some snapshots of a few video game cosplayers I peeped below! Chrono Cross…!

Review: BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

Posted by Spawn Kill on July 26th, 2009

180608_blazblue_01I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not much of a fighting game fan, but when I heard about BlazBlue, I couldn’t help but be intrigued. From its style, to supposedly balanced play, I had heard so many great things about it. So, after some thought and a sudden impulse, I bought the game and decided to try it out. So, what did I think of it?

bb-007How many times have you walked into an arcade to check out what’s the latest in arcade hits to play just to find the DDR master ramping up 230+ Perfects on something like the cruel, cruel song The Legend of Max? Or to stretch your eyes to the sight of Street Fighter champion Justin Wong single-handedly (he might as well) pummel every single opponent daring enough to challenge him. Or maybe you are not the type to subject yourself to public humiliation. You really want to play, but you don’t want the crowd’s glaring eye to witness your utter failure as you play on Light mode in DDR or want to challenge the AI solo-style in Marvel vs. Capcom. But seeing these elite players do what they do best is what really fuels a player to want to join the ranks of the elite arcade-goers, flexing their skills to the passing crowd. Who doesn’t wish they could play like that? I am only one of the many trying to climb my way to the top.

bbIf you think Atlus spoils you (they do), you haven’t seen anything yet! Aksys Games is bringing home console-favorite BlazBlue so fans can train at home before hitting up the arcades, if you’re lucky enough to have one close by. Well, at first there was exciting news of a limited edition artbook for pre-orders on the game, but they have taken this one ten steps further by announcing today that there will be an enormous special edition package, dripping with special features. They have gone the extra mile to ensure that all fans who pre-ordered BlazBlue originally, will get a free upgrade to this VIP limited edition status. So pre-order this bad boy (girl?) while you can, because it won’t cost you an extra cent. It’s slated for a cool, crisp $59.99 dollar bill (they need to make one of those for gamers) and no one’s picking favorites here as it’ll be for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 releases of the title. Hit the jump to hear about all the bonus content you’ll be wallowing in on June 30th. Stay tuned in the next coming weeks for some exclusive content regarding BlazBlue!
