Do you have a Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty beta key yet?  No?  Well, if you’ve been waiting and waiting for your own beta code, Gamestop retailers may have a solution for you.  Pre-order the game from their store, and you’ll be given a beta code.  If you choose to pre-order the game online, they’ll e-mail you the code.  Opt to get it through pick-up and you’ll need to wait 24 hours until you can pick up your code.  The third option is to go to the store, pre-order it while you’re there and have the code printed out on your receipt.

Be warned, though.  Once you pre-order the game and receive your code, it can’t be canceled.  You can probably get around this by going to the actual store in person, dropping $5 down for the game and then choosing not to pick it up.  According to the Kotaku article, your local Gamestop manager may even let you cancel the pre-order after the fact.  You can head over to Gamestop right now and pre-order your beta code…I mean, Starcraft II.

What the hell man!? since when was it ok to charge an extra $10 for a PC game! As much as i want a beta code no way im going to be stuck buying the game at gamestop for it.
  • I hear you! I'm not a fan of "pay extra money for a beta key and be locked into your purchase." Seems kind of shady to me. And I don't like Gamestop. I get most of my games from Futureshop these days.

Great deal and all, sad to see though the game is going to be 59.99 as of now *sigh*
  • I still find it strange that they're holding you to buying the game, which doesn't even have an official release date. If you so choose, you can probably return it in the end if you had to buy it online.,
  • I find that odd too! Like you said, you can probably return it...but there's more than likely several ways around this. Are they even legally allowed to say "you MUST buy this?"
  • Pfft, you know if you find the right dumb employee you can bring this game back. But I see how they could want to try to do this so people don't agree just for a beta key. Still, though...just don't offer the beta key if you anticipate cheapskates!
