Madden NFL Coming to Facebook?

In an interview with Bloomberg Television President of EA Sports Peter Moore stated that we will be seeing a Madden NFL game on Facebook saying “We have to make Madden more accessible. You’ll see us on Facebook going forward.” Although no official statement has been made regarding Madden appearing on Facebook, every sign seems to point towards that happening. EA recently acquired Playfish the company behind such Facebook games as Pet Society and Restaurant City. If you need more proof, EA Sports has been very active in the online free-to-play market with the recently released Tiger Woods Online and the upcoming FIFA Online.
Madden NFL on Facebook would be a “simpler experience” much like the sports titles we’ve already seen from EA. Free games on social networks have been increasing in popularity by appealing to the masses. They’ll obviously try to generate revenue by offering micro transactions but that isn’t their ultimate goal. What EA hopes to do is generate sales for their console versions by offering these free online titles.
It’s no surprise that Madden NFL sells well but sales have been steadily dropping over the years so this is a good way for EA Sports to bring sales back up to where they used to be. They have tried their hand at casual football titles with NFL Tour and Madden NFL Arcade however both titles failed to hit the casual audience EA hopes to get form a Facebook game. It’s not official but it only makes sense for EA to go in this direction so I’m sure we’ll be hearing something about a Madden NFL online title soon.
