akira yamaokaThe talented composer Akira Yamaoka has left Konami after working on their various soundtracks for sixteen years. Yamaoka was best known for his work on the Silent Hill series, both the internally-developed titles and those handled outside of Konami’s studios. Yamaoka also released an album of some of his original recordings shortly after working on the Silent Hill movie.

While no official explanation has been given for Yamaoka’s departure, the rumor has it that he will be working towards becoming more independent with his compositions, perhaps even becoming a more mainstream musician while keeping up with freelance gaming work. Yamaoka may even return to the Silent Hill series, though this is in no way confirmed.

"Keep your day job, Akira" ;)
  • Its looking like he would be down for that, but I couldn't find a confirmation of it anywhere. You're right though, I can't imagine the game sounding any different. He himself said that he can't imagine anyone else doing the music for Silent Hill.

Well I hope Konami still contracts him to do SH work. If not then it's officially the nail in the coffin for the series. I mean the only redeeming qualities of both SH4 and SH5( which were both utter shit) was the music.
