dhaniThose cretins who endlessly clamor for me to learn to how to play a real instrument really should find another cause to rally around. Who’s got time to pick up a guitar when we’ve got plastic ones? I’m not having any more of their nonsense. And neither is Dhani Harrison, son of the legendary George Harrison. You may remember him from his involvement with the stellar The Beatles: Rock Band. He’s ready to see some changes come to the series.

According to Dhani, the upcoming Rock Band 3 may be a real alternative to learning how to play actual instruments. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Harrison stated that he’s “working on making the controllers more real [...] so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game.” He seems adamant about this cause, adding “Give me a couple years. It’s going to happen.” If so, good on you, Dhani, for taking the initiative to turn games into more than just visceral entertainment.

With the recent surge in popularity of music-teaching tools (such as the DS piano  peripheral Tigresa dug up the other day), this could be a massive step forward in the future of music gaming, and I can’t wait to see how things play out.

  • How cool! I wonder how they plan on doing that. Perhaps placing notes and such on the strings in addition to the already present color-coding of the strings.
