gyromancerKeeping in step with their recent publishing rights of more casual-core games,  Square Enix has gone one step further and has partnered with the proprietor of all of our souls, PopCap, in order to create a game that will likely anchor us to our computer chairs and sofas once more — you know, like we all did with Peggle. Don’t act as if you weren’t obsessing over those last few stages. This collaboration is known as Gyromancer, and according to an official press release via Square Enix, it looks as if the conditions are quite favorable for giving the revered Puzzle Quest series a run for its money.

“Gyromancer is a cool puzzle/RPG hybrid that uses Bejeweled Twist’s game mechanic at the heart of its battle system,” remarked Jason Kapalka, Chief Creative Officer of PopCap.  With the mammoth RPG-centric Square Enix on board, gamers should look forward to enjoying an equally epic plotline with this installment to the company’s repertoire.

Players take up the mantel of character Rivel, a young summoner making a pilgrimage throughout a location known as Aldemona Wood. His journey will encompass ten different stages as he accompanies “countslayer” Qraist into the unknown, seeking to free his inaccessible memories and simultaneously stumbling into a world that he knows nothing of. Qraist seeks mastery over the woods, but what will become of either character?

Gyromancer is set to feature over fifty beasts to take control of via leveling up and acquiring higher stats, an online ranking system, and undoubtedly a whole lot more to satisfy your thirst for puzzle-RPG goodness.

No matter your take on the “casual” genre, Gyromancer looks to offer a mixture of addictive, PopCap-styled gameplay with the plotlines that Square Enix is notoriously skilled at weaving. Keep checking back at Spawn Kill for continuing coverage and a review upon the game’s release, which has yet to be announced, though it should be noted that as of right now, only Xbox 360 and PC gamers will be able to join in on the fun via Steam and Xbox Live Arcade. Sorry, PlayStation 3 and Wii owners!
