ALT+F4: Demigods, DoW II Content, Celestial Gumdrops, and Free Mechs
Posted by Future Man on July 30th, 2009
Thursday brings a ton of content for RTS Dawn of War II, as well as 50% off all of the Relic Entertainment games that are currently available on Steam, quite a few awesome deals involved in this early Weekend Deal. Demigod is finally available in demo form, a great game that definitely deserves checking out by anyone who enjoys fun. Breaking through this summers boring barrier is Gum Drop Celestial Frontier, and innovate SHMUP available on PC and XBLA. Finally there’s some new info on the upcoming free release of MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries.
Check it all out after the jump.
Take a Demigod on a Test Drive
Demigod, the Hero Arena game from Gas Powered Games, published and supported extensively through the rocky launch by Stardock, finally has a demo available for anyone who still might be on the fence. The demo offers players the most played map from the retail game, Cataract, as well as access to four of the usual eight Demigods available to play. The included Demigods are listed as Regulus, Rook, Sedna and Lord Erebus, which should allow players to get a good overall feel for what the game has to offer. In addition to the map and characters, all of the game modes will be available to experience as well.
As someone who played the pants off of this game for a month or two after release, I can easily recommend at least trying out the demo. The community is far friendlier than what you might experience in some other Hero Arena games, namely DOTA. The game is also set up in such a way that you can easily figure out your play style within a few hours, there’s a lot of fun to be had with this one. Of course, with the giant framed Demigod poster above my desk, I might be slightly biased.

There is Only War, and it’s Cheap!
Dawn of War II sees the launch of the content loaded There is Only War patch today. After some throwing it out to the community to beta test, they’ve come up with the finished product. There’s 8 new maps available as well as a World Builder, which should open up the floodgates for community created maps.
The amount of balance tweaks and general bug fixes is extensive to the point I’m not even going to try to fit highlights in here, instead you can check everything out in the patch notes which are available right here.
If that sounds like good stuff to you and you don’t yet own the game, you’re in luck. Dawn of War II is available for 50% off on Steam as the Weekend Deal, however, it doesn’t stop there. The entire relic collection is up for grabs with the 50% off tag, this includes Company of Heroes and the previous Dawn of War games, not shabby deals at all. I’ll outline everything that’s being offered on the cheap directly below.
- Relic Super Pack is $24.99, down from $49.99, this includes Company of Heroes, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Dawn of War Gold Edition, and Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. Awesome? Absolutely.
- Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II is marked down to $24.99 from the usual $49.99, an awesome deal when you consider all the freshly released content.
- Dawn of War: Platinum Edition is $14.99, down from $39.99, this includes Dawn of War Gold Edition as well as the Dark Crusade stand-alone expansion.
This pretty much sums up everything that’s available. However, if you aren’t interested in the packs, they’re all 50% off individually as well, you can check out the full list right here.
Get Your Free On, in Space
Gum Drop Celestial Frontier is an indie title from Elbert Perez, it’s freely available on the PC, and it can be yours for 200MS Points on XBOX 360. It’s a SHMUP that isn’t a SHMUP, as you’re not really shooting anyone. You’re flying around in space with a metal ball tethered to your ship that you send plowing into and destroying enemies. It might sound odd at first, but when you get through the first couple of levels and wrap your mind around it, it’s an absolute blast. The game is a great monotony breaker during the summer slump we’re in, so check it out, and be on the lookout for a review coming up within the next couple of weeks.

MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries Free Release Details
You may remember me getting excited about the impending free release of MW4: Mercs, well some further details have finally been released. The fellows doing the release, over at the MekTek.net forums have laid out a Q&A that should answer any and all questions pertaining to the release. Here’s some of the meat and bones of the Q&A.
Q: What will be free?
A: Clan Pack, Is Pack, Mech 4 Mercs are all included. Mech 4 Vengeance, Blackknight will not be included. We do not have the technology to support it or the capabilities to remove the copy protection and everything else that goes along with these.
Though it seems as though it will not be possible for us to release Vengeance and Black Knight with the initial release of Mercs, we will continue to look into the possibility of releasing them, or at least their campaigns, at a later date. Hopefully using the built-in patcher that we are developing.
Q: What all will be included?
A: Clan Pack, Is Pack, Mech 4 Mercs, MekPak 3.1. Maps that are confirmed working. Basically everything we can.
Q: When can we expect to see the download?
A: Its going to be at least a few weeks before its ready. We have to put it together and test it to make sure everything will work.
So there you have it, what will be included and when we can pop on our Neural Helmets and start blowing up robots with lasers.

Thanks to Spawn Kill community member Dark_Swordmaster for the heads up on the MechWarrior 4 info.
