ALT+F4: Zombies and Deals

Resident Evil 5 - Angry MegaphoneIt has finally dropped below 90 degrees here in my sun bleached corner of the globe. So now that the risk of heatstroke is gone for the day, here’s some PC gaming news. Today the date for the release of Resident Evil 5 has been announced, along with an awesome benchmark utility that will let you get an idea of how the game will run. In addition to that is a truckload of savings across the various digital distro sites, all of which have a ton of great games available on the cheap.

Check it all out after the jump.

Resident Evil 5 to Infect PCs

Capcom has declared that September 18th will be the day PC gamers finally get to take part in the Resident Evil 5 party. As an added bonus to playing at high resolutions and antialiasing away all the jaggies, the game is also going to have the added bonus of being viewable in stereoscopic 3D. While I’m personally not a fan of funneling hundreds of dollars into making pictures pop out at me, it’s a pretty cool sounding feature.

“Fans that pick up the PC version will be the first to experience stereoscopic 3D out of screen effects as their living rooms are transformed into the world of Kijuju. Infected Majini coming at players from every angle, dust flying in and out of screen and the scariest bosses to date are taken up a notch. Resident Evil 5 PC is a whole new level of fear players will never forget. The game also supports Stereoscopic 3D in all of its cut scenes – an industry first.”

In addition to this news, Capcom has released a benchmark utility to ensure you’ll be able to pop zombie skulls at buttery frame rates before you invest in the title. The application includes a variable benchmark which should indicate the performance you’ll see in-game, and a fixed benchmark that just does its best to kick your computer in the stomach and laugh. The benchmark includes an option for DX9 or DX10 and even allows you to check out the stereoscopic 3D if you’ve got the hardware.

Then benchmark is available from Fileshack and nZone.

Also this weekend you have the Penumbra Collection pack at a whooping 5 USD!

You can get the Windows version at Gamer's Gate… which might be fine for you, but not for me. For some reason the site forces you to register an account at other credit card services so you can give them money. After a (curiously long) dread journey of 30 minutes trying to fork over cash I'm saying forget it.

Thanks for the heads up, dude. That's an awesome collection, I got it for the same price on Steam awhile back. Anyone who wants the hell scared out of them would do well to check it out.

  • I found that the gameplay bench actually ran worse than the stress test.

And their description of the "scariest" bosses ever is lacking. They were terrible. Even the crappy endboss from RE4 is better than any RE5 boss. They were utterly tewwible!

    • Tigresa says:

Still, though not scary the RE5 endboss makes me curious how in the world will RE6 be birthed? SPOILER…………… New bad guy after 7 (main) games? I want to know how it'll be done and then how fans will react to a Wesker-less Evil.
