ALT+F4: RAGE and WAR

Rage - Sloth?Another scorching hot weekend has spared me to enjoy another wonderful Monday. I couldn’t stir up quite as much interesting PC gaming news as usual, not really a whole lot happening right now. But what I did stumble on is pretty good stuff. id software has started releasing details slowly on their new ip, RAGE, starting with a teaser site and a big Game Informer cover story. Warhammer Online is looking to fix their flagging player count by merging servers.

Check the always exciting Monday news, after the jump.

-RAGE starts the Hypeocalypse

Rage, or, I’m sorry, RAGE, the new racer/shooter coming from the depths of id software has officially started the hype rolling with a new teaser site and upcoming cover story in Game Informer. The teaser site is the standard flash offering with a few clues floating about here and there. There’s an oil tanker in the scene it shows, carrying the name, “Apophis”. Apophis is a very real asteroid that was thought to have a very real 2.7% chance of colliding smack dab with the Earth in 2029. The date 2029 is seen in the teaser site on some itinerary belonging to a Benjamin Green.

So, I’ll continue to wear my detective hat and mull over every little piece of information I can pull out of this flash site, check it out for yourself and take a look at the cover for the upcoming Game Informer reveal below. With QuakeCon looming on the horizon, the floodgates should burst pretty soon.

-Warhammer Online Reckons on Merging Servers

Spotted over at IncGamers, it looks like Warhammer Online begins more server consolidation, usually not too good a sign for an MMO that has so recently launched. This possible upcoming merger would mark the second time that the game has undergone some population balancing.

“…we are expecting to resolve our long term population issues on our lower population servers and see high populations regularly as part and parcel of server merges that are currently in discussion.”

I can’t help but be constantly amused by this, because anytime I hear about Warhammer and server mergers it instantly plants my mind on a quote from the former Mythic General Manager Mark Jacobs.

“Look at us six months out. Look at us six weeks out. If we’re not adding servers, we’re not doing well.”

Well, hopefully mergers help keep the population feeling somewhat dense. I enjoyed my time with the game during and a little after launch, but it really did get a pretty bad ghost town feeling  to it.

Check it out the details buried in the latest Herald, right here.

Warhammer had such potential. I gave it about six months of srs dedication, but it just didn't have that….special sauce. Ah well. Hopefully Bioware slaps Mythic back into form.
